Would you mind telling me the ending of the novel? I really don't mind spoilers.
God for once.... I hope they don't do the epilogue exactly the same way ! I think showcasing the psychological difficulties is great, but I'm not ready to see this ending 😅
But oh well... i'll have some faith and trust the writers !
I completely agree. The English speaking is some of the worst I've heard in a drama, and the writing can be really…
The english thing also doesn't really bother me when you know it's not supposed to be their first language either so like... why should it be perfect ? That would probably make it pretty unrealistic 😅
Either way same as you Lushhh, i've heard way worse 😅
you should definitely check out hwang daseul's other works! 'to my star', 'blueming' and 'where your eyes linger'…
Hi ! Fully agree with the recs that were made (especially hwang daseul's other works and our dating sim which I loved), additionally I also really enjoyed : Love Tractor, Sing My Crush & Mr. Heart :)
Once Again was also great, although a completely different genre (still BL). So although I thought it was great it's not for every one, so you could read the description to see if you enjoy it or not :)
Great article and fully agree with all of the actors/actresses in this article ! I think Im Siwan also deserves a place on this list for being able to go from the greenest of flags in dramas like Run On, Misaeng and Summer Strike, to complete psychopath in movies or dramas like Stranger from hell, Emergency Declaration or Unlock.
It definitely feels quite sudden , I wonder if it will seem smoother when the episode actually airs ^^
And it's weird because I thouroughly enjoyed the first 5 episodes, but even this episode 6 felt a little rushed to me ? Like why is Reese suddenly apologizing to Neil in the beginning of the episode before he even learns about the budget cuts or anything, it's as if we were missing a scene which could explain his behaviour as well.
I think some people were confused because it said "sophomore", but that can mean university as well as high school. And I think since he doesn't wear a uniforn, is taking a digital marketing class and works in a bar it's pretty safe to say he's a sophomore in university :)
Yee chan working for a restaurant in seoul!! I want that mini love triangle plotline as well! But regardless LOVE…
I wonder if maybe they'll do a season 2... One can hope ! I thought that with the way they ended it, they kind of left it open enough that if they wanted to they could use many of the arcs from the second part of the webtoon and it would still be super enjoyable !
Like seeing Yechan build his business and the restaurant, the love "triangle", the thing with the actress and the leaking picture, seeing them in Seoul and then moving back... honestly I think they'd have a lot of material to go from if they did choose to do a second season :)
- Until We Meet Again- First Love Again- Oh! My Sunshine Night- The UntamedThese are just the ones on the top…
The synopsis strongly reminds me : - Color Rush
With soulmates you also have : - Dew (but it's a movie) - While you were sleeping (non BL) - Word of Honor - Vice Versa (ish ? Not really soulmates but lovers who reunite in different universes I'll count it ;p)
I'll be honest, my hope is that he comes back at the very end of season 2 like : "Surprise motherfuckers, I was alive all along", and then is in season 3 ! And I think it's truly possible because like otherwise... why would they show us his nose bleeding ? Don't give us hope like this peeps ! ^^ So honestly, I'm with you on this ;p
With more and more news about new (and old) actors considering being in season 2 and no news from either Lee Do Hyun nor Go Min Si, I'm wondering if we're going to have to kiss our Lee siblings goodbye. That would be sad... God, I hope we hear official news soon.
This was a very interesting read, thank you very much !
I especially liked the fact that you spoke very realistically about those dramas, both the good and the bad.
I personally adore You Are My Hero for instance, so I appreciated that you mentioned all the good the drama does (I genuinely do consider it to be one of the healthiest relationships in c-dramas I've seen), while still calling out the problematic behaviour that was exhibited in it ! We can love something and still recognize the problematic aspects it exhibits, and I think you did this very well with this article.
Another interesting bit to think about is the double standard that is sometimes exhibited by some viewers, sometimes without even noticing it.
Addicted shocking people less because it's a love story between two men for instance, and therefore seems more acceptable to some people. Begin Again being n°4 in the 'male leads that grasps the notion of consent' made me smile, because while that may be true for the male lead (although I can still think of a couple things in the drama that weren't okay on his part), it's so so far from the truth for the female lead, but people tend to over look that a lot. It doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the show, but it's definitely worth noting as well.
Anyway, thank you for the interesting read, and for the recs of dramas that did call out this behaviour :)
Interesting article, although I admit I don't really share your opinion on many of those interpretations.
Some previous comments have explained a lot better than I could why Sang Tae's character is actually a very accurate portrayal of autism, and it's all just a matter of how deep on the spectrum people are, so I won't go back on this point. I think the issue here is more about how media doesn't really portray many people with autism who are highly functional and lower on the spectrum, rather than Sang tae's portrayal in itself, but that's another point.
The part that does make me a bit skeptical about your article though, is the whole part about Sangtae's portrayal as a "burden" in the drama, and the conclusions you took from this. When reading your article, it felt like you kind of misunderstood what the very essence of this drama is, and the messages it was trying to portray.
Yes, Gang Tae feels trapped and does dedicate a big part of his life taking care of his brother. I understand how that's not realistic for every person with autism or any mental health issues as a matter of fact, seeing as they affect people so differently and there exists a large spectrum. But it's also very much reality for some people. Not them being a burden or anything, that's absurd, but the part about how taking care of someone with severe mental issues or someone who is sick does take work and commitment, that's just a fact, and ignoring that doesn't do anyone any justice here.
The point that did bother me about your article though, is how you seem to ignore (purposefully or not, I have no idea) a whole aspect of the drama, being that > Both brothers (and all characters as a matter of fact) all suffer from mental health issues (although to varying degrees) and actually take care of each other and look after the other.
Gang tae is very much shown as the carer at first, but throughout the entire drama we see that the relationship and care actually goes both way and we see Gang tae mature and accept that he needs his brother just as much as his brother needs him. I don't really understand how someone can watch It's okay not to be okay and come out of the drama thinking that Sang Tae was a "burden" to Gang Tae and not see how mutually dependent those two boys are on each other, because I feel like that's basically the opposite of the whole message the drama was trying to portray which is : we all have our own issues, we all need help sometimes, and we are stronger when we rely on each other.
Yeah, Gang Tae spends a lot of the drama (and his life) taking care of Sang Tae and Ko Mun Yeong. But when you watch the drama and understand its messages, you realize that this entire time they've been taking care of him right back and have helped shape him into someone who is a lot more self-assured and overall happier. I feel like that's the message we're supposed to take from this drama, and it's blatantly obvious by the end of the drama that both of the brothers rely heavily on each other, and that it's not necessarily a bad thing.
Regardless of me agreeing or not with the things you wrote, I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions and express them and it was an interesting read :)
hi! ep. 27 has just been subbed c;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYmK6NYO_Uw&lc=z224z5dzhyuzvlxba04t1aokgv051tqc2lz0qzginlcdrk0h00410.1610626180054781
Thanks for the update, I've added the episode to the list :)
Maybe Begin Again could sort of fit your criteria ? Definitely for the first part (poor man/rich woman), and there…
Unfortunately not with those particular tropes, Begin again was the only one to come to mind. There are others I really liked, but they don't fit your criterias. But if I think of others I'll let you know !
Almost done with the show, I really like the second couple a lot. I love the Poor man/rich woman trope, I'm also…
Maybe Begin Again could sort of fit your criteria ? Definitely for the first part (poor man/rich woman), and there is a big subplot of 'you deserve better than me', that wasn't my favourite in the drama but does fit what you may be looking for :)
Warning though : I personally really like the female lead but some people have issues with her, it truly depends the type of characters you like.
I think showcasing the psychological difficulties is great, but I'm not ready to see this ending 😅
