there were a couple of angles I’ve seen, I agree that some of the bts seem a lot better than what they edited in the drama. like that one scene where they had that reunion hug some eps ago and her teardrop was supposed to land on his hand and she said it was hard but you don’t see the camera focusing on it in that ep lol
What I like about this ep different from the book was how he was drugged. He was so sweet, then was lured by FCY to drink that tonic after the kiss, and woke up himself when Ningniang counted to 50. He was even gentle about it telling her to turn around instead of being woken up by Ningniang using the needle and then exploding like in the book.
What fell a little short in my opinion was how proactive FCY seem to talk about joining the war and then when they were calling to assemble or the actual battle, she seemed to lag until they called her to come forward. Ie her shielding herself with the squad and then finally joining in, I was expecting more fierce and intense battling, she was supposed to battle more than just the whoever general and that one person she didn’t kill.
I did like the use of blood in the fog tho, that was cool.
Edit: ik ik, I too love the finale battle, FCY was amazing and everything else in the drama. I just couldn’t get over this one bit lol. I like to leave the book last bc it turns into nitpicking if I read it before but I couldn’t resist and now, it’s burning me over bc I keep thinking she was supposed to start slicing people off the second it started. 😂😂

The Lady in the Butcher House is the only drama I personally watched with a butcher lady. It’s more of a toned down version to PoJ, focusing on business and court politics. Essentially, imagine if FCY and SY (the scholar, her ex betroth) were actually married. the ml in TLitBH is the same actor who played as uncle wuju alongside fan xian in Joy of Life.

I chalked it up to the author liking the transmigration trope so much bc most of their other books are about it that they slipped it into this one lol. It’s a little misplaced but yh, she is.

it’s only s1 so idk if it’s actually completed but I did have a listen to the preview and it seems pretty good. unlike the drama, the famous kiss slap is audioed like the book but still have no emphasis on the biting. 😂
idk how close it sticks to the book tho. for people who know Chinese or obsessed fans who doesn’t mind google translating. fair warning: you have to be prepared to navigate the site and work around things.

Destroying the dam was the same tactic as in the Prisoner of Beauty, but it feels more satisfying here because…
anything historical costume mentions the dam at some point. it doesn’t matter if it’s the leads or opposing generals, someone wants to use the dam or river to flood places as political tactics. 😂 I remember the villain from Destined, in the book, he had allied with external enemies and planned plus actually built the dam alongside the ml (GJS) and rigged it with explosives but they managed to prevent that whilst the drama had rewritten that part as purely GJS rebuilding the dam using the villain’s proposal plan. but I agree, that scene was very nice. I had actually hoped it would’ve been bigger and messier like reality.
