Well… i guess tgcf kinda made me numb to these sorts of things… it obviously doesn’t make it any less weird…
that's why i have been saying..

this idea is taken from HC.. but then that man plays at another level.. 1 statue vs 100000000

ok y'all, i have a question that is irrelevant to the series, but the platform and idk where else to ask, so i…
last year... most chinese paltforms did.. and they announced it in their annual gala with sponsors/ show promos event..

it was a big affair

they have also made celebrities sign that their face, voice can be used. so, physically they may not even be required but their face and voice can be used to create a full character in a show

so imagine, a Zhang linghe drama but not with actual zhang linghe

it took multiple watching to understand the creative choices made by the director.

1. 1st off, did anyone else notice BJ was also crying in the last scene? When he was telling LJ he did not forget anything. Look at his eyes - tear are falling down...

and because now i can see the tears the gravitas of his plain straight face behavior has created a certain gravitas

2. This one i give full credit to team because it shows they really really tried to understand the character and stuck to it.

BJ is someone who never emotes, suppresses his emotions well. Something he has been doing forever. We saw it in every big moment - he doesn't shout, even if angry he contains himself.

A few times we have seen his outburst, more so on crying... imagine just how helpless man must have felt (which really is just 2 moments - a) when he asked Jane what kind of life he envisaged b) breakup

(even when accused of murder, even when asked for the final wish.. he was very very in control of his emotions and voice modulation)

WHICH IS WHY in this scene too.. he is not emoting... but he has yearned for it so bad that his TEARS ARE FALLING

(for me, just being able to see that gave this scene another spin)

3. However, i still think this could have been handled better

4. I do think, BJ decided to open up that night because he could see LJ was struggling with his guild. And, i am POSITIVE that BJ was PETRIFIED that LJ would run away again

so this is my take on why last scene feels disjointed

Director explicitly made the choice of BJ noticing how much guilt LJ was feeling regarding Jamie, and causing father son fight. While coming back home, BJ noticed LJ was crying. Just extremely sad and shattered.

I think BJ was really really worried in that moment that LJ would resign and leave.

Give, BJ has been established as a genius, adept at reading people... I THINK, BJ DECIDED to cut some slack.... and in order to make LJ happy... fast tracked reconciliation

Leaving door open
Not resisting or putting too much into explaining why he has been distant

Notice, he doesn't hug back LJ when LJ hugs him thanking him for remembering everything.

************
This NC feels disjointed only from BJ perspective and not at all from LJ's perspective.

BJ is actually not there to explain and have an emotional release. He planned the night to make sure he can distract LJ and get him to feel less guilt and less sad.

***************
Now, from the lens the last scene fits and makes you wonder if director is actually this intelligent or are we making up stuff. Ideally, ep 9 opening should give us a few more moments from this scene.
**************
given how 1st two NCs were b'fully crafted to convey exact emotions. i think this scene was also crafted on purpose to make audience feel weird/awkward about it

Are you also telling me that had LJ continued sleeping , we would be going into another week of...

"i love you but can't admit and will make gooey eyes at you"

"While I keep running into you in all your hotness"

NC scene feels very natural ! Love it ! So we're discovering more of Big Jane world. And of course he's still…
any story has to have a growth arc

LJ's arc is to trust BJ and move beyond believing what others think

BJ's arc is to also learn to trust people... and give up this contract business which is a manifestation of his disdain of humans

You’re saying the scene was “too simple” and didn’t fit the characters, but you’re looking at it through…
yup...

oh the losers who are going about faking the story and painting the picture of people are here for p*rn and revealing more about themselves than anyone else

at the bare minimum, we know their aptitude doesn't have depth to understand, discuss, dissect and actually appreciate an art for what it is.. an artform is driven by its interpretation
