In that scene, Tong talks about his past - parents/mother and Mark then tells Tong about his death... the point was how he was so cold and felt nothing when dad died but tong made him feel things for tong, for the kids.. wanting to be within human company which Mark has been running away from
This scene is supposed to be powerful because this si where Mark feels that he wants to live, and his growing feelings for Tong because tong is the one who has reignited this will to live... and later on Tong is extremely angry and asks Mark to leave.. so that's why Mark agrees to leave..
