Just a heads up, she's not a 'ladyboy', she's a transgender character (played by a transgender actress)
I didn't call her a ladyboy, I quoted the series, see quotation marks, and specifically pointed out it was the language from the series.
May well have been translated from the Thai Kathoey, which some consider a third gender, and isnt an insult. Admittedly the English translated word is awful to western ideas of gender identity. Kathoey includes trans, intersex, androdony, and effem gay men and I'm quite happy to see better representation, portrails, and good storylines for any of them.
I was part of the way through a psychopath kdrama when I saw that Mark proposes to Dai Ou Wen, and I was like, wahh had to stop the dark messed up killing stuff and watch the proposal. Now I discover it's the last episode. I need more Dai Ou Wen and Mark, everybody does.
The song by You Yu at the end is beautiful, telling Chien Yi to let go of the pain, repression and fly high. I think it shows You Yu has an understanding of Chien Yi's guilt, how much he sacrificed to the family. Even though it probably wasn't down to him, it feels like a bit of sacrifice from You Yu not being with Dad Mark II in order to let him fly, and maybe that is a way of repaying him for all he did.
Still, thats boring film interpretation stuff, obviously though they should of been together. Chien Yi rocks as a Dad, You Yu knows what's going on, (but if that was a sacrifice, you got that bit wrong). Not sure if the uncle was just after the money but he was a bit of a knob.
Not finished it yet, but this is really good, feels like real people, real conversations and not a "drama". That…
OK I see the problems people have with episode 7, but he does make it clear he's gay in 8 so I don't think its so much of a going back in the closet people make about it. Whatever its great story telling.
Not finished it yet, but this is really good, feels like real people, real conversations and not a "drama". That whole use of Queen, it just doesnt seem like any Japanese tv/film I've watched before. Love Ryouhei's trying to stand by his friend when he's outed.
Really good. Some great photography, and great exploration of a photographer and a subject. Bit confusing in places though, and gets a lot wrong. Despite that it's definitely worth a watch.
Ummm. Real life is messy, the heart is complicated, we don't always get things right. Yeah he is a bit selfish…
I would call Shun selfish, he made some pretty bad moves, leaving to go surfing, moving in with daughter without even asking and using it as divorce settlement reason when they weren't even a couple. Outside pressures aren't always an excuse, the people we love aren't perfect, and I'm not too. I'm willing to give anyone I love the chance for forgiveness and growth or even live with some imperfections, and I hope the person I love will give me the same opportunity, because I'm definitely not perfect.
Relationships can sometimes be unequal and get things wrong. If you're not happy about it speak up, talk about it, communicate (exactly what Shun did, even if it took him a while), if that doesn't work out change things. If it is really toxic dont be scared to walk away.
This is super, super cute with 40+ couple, very subtle comedy, which I love. Some of it requires a bit of Japanese culture knowledge to get the jokes, but even if you dont get that the it has a lot to enjoy. Plus those cooking scenes ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
AGREE with you but I think it's more than that - the actor who plays Uenoyama, his acting style is very anime…
Whilst Im sure an acting style might add to it, visually I think the shots add more to being a manga/anime style. Ive seen it in other manga adaptations, but the cinematography (and shout out to lighting guys in Given) here does it very well. Also generally Japanese cinema seems to go for wide angle, possibly something to do with "reading the air", but manga stuff also likes the close detail shots.
I waited a long time after watching the prequel before watching this I wish hadn't, I love this, I love everything about it. "I cant ride a bike, don't tell them", it's so simple, restrained but says so much.
I loathe selfish trash like Nagisa. Just bc you're a gay man suffering from society's prejudice does NOT mean…
Ummm. Real life is messy, the heart is complicated, we don't always get things right. Yeah he is a bit selfish but also people who go "you made a mistake Im cutting you out of my life" type people are assholes. Maybe you've watched too many Thai BLs and don't understand the pressures that gay men get from society/family that can influence life decisions. It is actually OK to forgive people sometimes, as long as they have grown and learnt not to be the same.
It was driving me crazy trying to understand why this had such a anime feel to it. Finally I realised its about the shots. Lots of wide angle, slow tracking, less cut shots, detail close ups.
In an unusually good episode of Top Secret Together, shockingly better, probably because it was a beach episode, expecting back to normal bad writing next week. I noticed this and thought well that adds a whole dimension into bothnewyear I hadn't expected.
I found the reconciliation among the family members of Lukmo and Simai to be very unnatural. Lukmo has been abandoned…
The whole, after shouting its impossible, you cant be together, actually I'm not his father, you have my permission to pursue, you can't tell him. Maybe I misunderstood the scene, but WTF, how are you supposed to persue someone who thinks you're their brother, but you cant tell them you're not. The latest beach episode isnt too bad.
I'm not at all bothered by this being a school drama, because it doesn't follow the same tired formula. I would,…
Yeah. I'm hoping this gets a bit better, its only 3 episodes so far, so hoping it picks up speed.
Most Thai dramas could do with being cut 30% condensing, unnecessary flashbacks (maybe ok to keep the end one in though), titles, product placement, recaps. How long would a 50m X 20 episode last without all that?
Yeah its another school drama we are so fed up of. No it's not, was what I was thinking at the beginning of episode 3, and by the end I was convinced. Even if you're fed up with those school bl's, give this a go, it's starting to look quite good. None of the comedy camp/bitchy/ex type scenes so far, bit fluffy, occasionally misses a beat or two, but mostly gets it right, good cinematography, feels like it's more about story than entertainment, very watchable so far.

Hell yeah, I mean he's always been badass, but not like that
