If you don't like Wikipedia, there are about 200,000 other sources that describe Muhammed's campaigns to force his religion of Jews, Christians, Pagans, and others. What you wrote about S2 of SG is pretty much exactly what I've gathered from my own reading and another reason I'm in no hurry to watch it. Are you familiar with the "Hunger Games" series of films here in the U.S.? HUGE hit, probably world-wide too. I saw the first one and thought it was stupid. lol So that was it for me. And from what I've gathered, SG is a very similar concept.

I don't think I'm better than anyone else, but I have NEVER been one to sit and watch something just to pass time. I have to feel engaged with what I'm seeing, as well as not feel insulted by the level of writing/acting/direction/production. If it's not really grabbing me, I'm out. I don't hesitate to drop films if they're not above average. I mean, why not? There are still many thousands of other films/series in the world I haven't seen that I'd rather spend the time giving a shot to.

I just read up on the "scandal" surrounding Park Sung Hoon and the hilariously titled porn parody of Squid Games called "Squirt Games" and I'm dying. First of all, I'm dying at the laugh-out-loud name of the parody. But I'm not laughing at the stupid, insane, Church Lady netizens trying to wreck his career over the matter.

Only one thing need be said: HE POSTED THE COVER AND TOOK IT BACK DOWN IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS. So, clearly one of two things happened: Either he put it up deliberately but immediately thought better of it and took it down, OR he put it up accidentally but immediately caught his mistake and took it down. Either way, the idea that this is a "thing" to be screeched about rather than laughed about (because that is exactly what would happen in the U.S.) shows how long and hard that Puritanical rod Korea still has up its ass is. My dear god.

I wish, just once, an agency instead of apologizing and groveling before the public in a statement, would say something like " PSH put it up, changed his mind and took it down in under 60 seconds. We will continue to back him 100% in all his current commitments and going forward. To the netizens and so-called journalists trying to make this a thing, please get a life."

I googled the covers of the porn parody. They are hilariously tacky, as porn covers usually are. At worst, one cover has an uncovered boob. Most covers, I don't know which one PSH put up, have NO uncovered intimate body parts, yet articles about this describe them as "explicit." Explicit is a clear shot of a peen going in and out of a vajay-jay, not a woman in a bra. I saw a netizen comment saying that they were "afraid" for the safety of the female kpop idol who is slated to act opposite PSH in some upcoming series. hahaha...omg, these people are nutjobs, and yet this is the thinking by far too many in Korea.

I did some research a couple months ago about where this vicious Puritanical streak in Korean society comes from. It is a hangover from the earliest days of the first military dictatorship that ruled Korea. In its quest to control every Korean right down to their personal life choices, the regime instituted purity/morality-type laws that were a mirror image of what the Commies up north do: Sex outside marriage, homosexuality, porn, drugs, even dirty jokes and free speech, were all cracked down on and these laws were strictly enforced. And the country still hasn't gotten over it.

Thankfully, this will change greatly as the old farts (and I am one) in Korea die off. Adults younger than 45 have a hugely different attitude toward premarital sex, unmarried couples living together, porn, marijuana, and all sorts of other issues. The government controlling one's personal life is just abhorrent to me, as it should be in any free society.

Regarding the 35 years of Korean dictatorships, as an American I am appalled that my government, after investing so much money, lives, time and effort into pushing the NKs and Chinese back out of SK in the Korean War, did not then lean on the country hard afterwards to be a full-fledged democracy, as it did in Japan. After WW2, Japan was allowed to keep its emperor (though he had NO power), but otherwise remade the government into a parlimantary democracy and remade the society as a whole from one of macho Samurai culture into one of the most powerful, productive countries on Earth. (There are societal downsides to that, but those are for another post.) Why the U.S. did not do the same with Korea is something I don't yet understand.

BTW, I love that the SG porn parody came out of Japan. lol Japan got real kinky real fast after WW2. :D

Finally, you are spot-on, and I've said it many times as well, it is ABSURD that Korea's crazy-ass Soju/alcoholism issues are not considered a problem by the government, despite the human cost and cost of billions of $$$ in productivity, health care, etc. Yes, booze is a drug, but it's ingrained in the culture so it's ignored. Korea is the most alcoholic nation in the developed world.

SG is kicking ass on NF though I've seen lots of negative reviews. It's not my kind of thing. I haven't even watched season 1 and doubt I ever will.

Yes, very concerned for Yoo here. I'm horrified at the thought he could go to prison for FOUR years. It is beyond upsetting. He is a delicate soul, which is what led to all this to begin with, and I doubt he'd survive that, and if he did I fear he'd come out a shell of his former self. They've already wrecked what was becoming a legendary career. For a "crime" that put no one in danger but himself. Korea's fascist drug laws are insane.

Episode 9, while moving things along, was also somehow kind of slow and boring.
Nevertheless, I'll be here next week for sure. It was the writing this ep that was the problem; certainly not the actors. Weird to feel kind of meh at this point, given how much I've liked it til now. It feels like another cliche story wrap-up with a stupid time jump that separates the MC just because they need to be separated for the standard dramatic reasons, not because of anything organic to the story...some old, same old...

There is zero evidence that the suicide had anything to do with the actor's comments in vogue.

THEY NEVER MADE IT PAST THE POINT OF BEING ALLEGATIONS. All charges, where there were any, were dropped. Plus, this was all many years ago. People can't let shit go when it comes to trashing celebs. Just to reiterate: Charges dropped, no arraignments, no prosecution, no trial, and no verdict. But by all means let's continue to argue over it 20 years later.

Dominant Yakuza is frustrating because only 4 episodes of 3.5minutes each have been released out of 10 on youtube and I'm not ready to pay to see the rest, so it's a slow go. However, this little show had me at hello, like in the first 45 seconds. It's hilarious and well-made.
