The great acting continues. Jeon Yu Bin has the most fascinating upper lip. The way the sides dip down and then back up is adorable and sexy, like two halves of a drapery pulled aside to reveal what's behind them... :)
episode 3: For the love of god, please ease up on the kabuki white face powder! The younger one in particular looks like a Geisha girl. This is a frequent problem in Korean BLs. I assume it stems from Korean society's obsession with fair skin and physical perfection in general; such that even makeup people lose sight of the line between natural and unnatural. These guys look like Geisha Vampires. Which is unfortunate, given that both are good-looking.
You know, I used to get annoyed at the abusive drinking BL trope, but the truth is that especially in Korea, getting shit-faced almost every day after work is standard behavior. Korea has the highest rate, by far, of alcoholism, alcohol abuse, and all its associated societal/cultural costs of all developed nations. So, viewed in this light, the drinking here is an accurate portrayal of the lives of these two young office workers.
That said, the drunk kiss is one of the most affecting I've seen in BL, both tender and sexual. I gasped.
It's also true that the world over, getting drunk to lower your inhibitions and make moves you'd otherwise be too cautious to make, is standard behavior for young and old alike.
These two actors are remarkably natural and believable. I like it.
After 2 episodes: Wow, I'm surprised how good this is. Given the 9-minute segments in a YT-only format, I figured it would be a quick try-and-drop. I was wrong. Acting is excellent, as are the production values. I see in comments below that others were confused by the plot...I guess? Maybe it will all fall apart as I go but after two episodes I see no confusion whatsoever.
Omg that was so sexy, I can’t even. I’m loving the height difference too.
yep, that's how I see it too. Gosh, I remain shocked at how good this show has become. I said earlier that I almost dropped it at the end of two episodes. I like elements of both lead characters, but the show overall felt too much like a stupid Thai BL (and there are a LOT of stupid Thai BLs). But the plot and acting got better with each episode. Even the overuse of dorky sound effects dropped off rapidly after the first two episodes. Maybe the director simply overdid those in an effort to evolve the show from silly/goofy to sexy/dramatic. If so, he accomplished that but nearly lost me and some others before the noticeable switch in emphasis began.
...and he looked so beautiful 😍😭 Sadly, I heard they had a falling out and unfollowed each other or something…
Oh bummer... do you have a link about that off-screen drama to share? Someone needs to get on the stick about making that sequel, as it is wildly in demand. And I have the perfect plot frame for it so I wish they'd call me! :D
For its genre (silly, goofy, sweet, sentimental sports-themed comedy), this is good! There are a number of flaws but in the SGSSSTC genre, flawlessness is not a requirement. This flick has a big heart.
I could have done without that ending, but oh well...I still enjoyed the film overall.
Ahn Jae Hong is excellent as always! There's something indefinable about him I have always found sexy. :) I'd take him over the drop-dead handsome soccer player any day. Park Ho San was probably 15 years too old for his part, but it doesn't matter. It's that kind of silly but good flick. Kang Bong Sung is adorable as Jae Hong's seaweed-devouring sidekick.
If you like the kind of movie I described above, this is a good one.
How many times in BL World has a character broken their beloved's heart and soul by deserting them to "go abroad "...for their own good, despite how much we were made to believe they loved them?" About 357 times, that's how many. No one cares what you "expect" from the character. As we're shown in the preview, Sean is going to be confronted with the exact trope I described, regardless of whether he stays or goes.
My top/bottom joke, which you chose to take in earnest, is based on science, my child. To be explicit, the only way Johnathan's joke, "it'd be yours" makes any sense is if he had been ejaculated INTO rather than the other way around, don't you agree? People who ejaculate into someone else during intercourse are NOT the ones who get pregnant. Did you know that?
Consider the evidence before lecturing someone else and making yourself look silly again. Of course, the motivation for your second paragraph is primarily to wax self-righteous about how it's "none of our business" who tops or bottoms in a BL. However, it is my business when a show I'm watching MAKES it my business; otherwise, I would agree. But this isn't real life. This is fiction. I didn't walk up to a couple on the street and inquire who was f**king whom, now did I? I made a joke based on dialogue in a BL.
If you're practicing to be a humorless scold when you grow up, you're well on your way.
Omg that was so sexy, I can’t even. I’m loving the height difference too.
hmmm...yes, but Sean exerts a powerful sort of submission. Think of how he squirmed around on SJP's bed like a minx in heat, all but daring SJP to attack him. "This smells like you..." lol And it was Sean who pulled SJP down onto the bed. He knew exactly what he was doing. That's part of why I enjoy his character so much. He's not the fake-innocent, wide-eyed, coy little virgin we see (or saw, I no longer watch them) in countless Thai bls.
Why woman always be put as an antagonist in a BL???? I don't wanna be misogynistic but I think the director /…
Give me a break. They are "always" made the antagonists, but yes, they often are. Because, in real life this sort of thing happens a LOT when it comes to closeted men who have never before dared to freely love another man. In their lives leading up to that point, such entanglements frequently evolve and have to be resolved, one way or the other.
Additionally, there is nothing wrong with stock character types in fiction. Without them, we'd have little conflict and drama.
Didn't anyone else notice freaking Yu Xi Gu from History3:MODC show up at the cocktail party?! I nearly wet myself. I loved seeing him. My fantasy is that this appearance is the first step in a marketing plan for the second season of MODC, which is long overdue.
That was one of the most affecting love/sex scenes I have seen in a BL. It made me both emotional AND horny. These two are beautiful together; increasingly so with every episode. The side couple thing keeps getting better too. So hot/cute/pouty/bossy. :D "It'd be yours." hahahahahahahahhaha...well, now we know who topped whom.
It is remarkable how this show has gotten better and better as it runs. I almost dropped it somewhere around eps. 2/3, but wow, I'm glad I kept watching. Sean's smartass but cute vibe and JSP's gentle giant acts had me hooked already then; i just didn't know it yet.
The acting of the two leads has improved from the first, too. I'm proud of both actors for their full-on investment in their roles. Real kisses, real emotion, no holding back with worries about idol reputations, etc. This was NOT made for mainland China. :)
I'm a bit bummed to see the ancient "If you really love him, you will destroy him." trope on its way for episode 12. So utterly unoriginal. There are countless other ways to introduce a separation crisis that wouldn't fall back on this tired cliche, if only writers were allowed to write one. If this is based on some source material that includes such a trope, I'll say again: adaptations do not require that books be reproduced word-for-word or trope-for-trope in the new medium. Ridiculous.
But I nit-pick. I will certainly be watching next week.
I didn't realise people didn't get that they were dating. It was so glaringly obvious. That punch somewhere in…
Numerous studies have shown teen males to be far hornier than teen females. If you're too lazy to google, I'm not doing it for you. I did NOT say teen girls aren't horny at all, which is what you imply.
I never said being horny makes young men "animals." I never said anyone has to have "...sex with your lover every second of every day..." I never said there is NOT more to life than sex.
Go make up s**t to respond to and bother someone else.
Great movie! Sword fights are some of the best I've seen. Plot's exciting and intriguing. Great cast. This may be the best thing I've seen Kang Dong Won do in a while.
Wow, Yoo Hae Jin, who I think of as a second lead/character actor, OWNS this flick. Everyone else is great too. Spectacular FX/cinematography/acting/direction/production as well. It gets a bit overly rah-rah-Korea! at times but not too often, and given the history of Japan and Korea, I don't blame the Koreans for hating on the Japs now and then.
Not a lot of war movie cliches. Also, I was intrigued that it is set around 1919 during the Japanese occupation and involves Jap forces against Korean independence fighters, something I don't think I've seen a film about before.
Yeah, you see this is the problem with SK, and increasingly in the U.S. as well: This old actor from squid game was convicted of fucking "hugging some broad inappropriately," "holding her hand," and making sexual comments" to her. And for that he got an 8-month suspended sentence and his career destroyed as if he did anything out of the ordinary. Here's the thing, I don't care about such bogus, absurd, insanely over-the-top definitions of "sexual abuse," and no one's reputation or career should be destroyed over them.
Being wrecked even at the gentleman's age, for such silly reasons, is what Korea does best. As a result, LOTS of Korean celebs kill themselves. This is why TOP attempted suicide. People like you are obsessed, hateful, and vicious and WILL NOT let go of these things, even after people have been punished and released. You continue to trash them online until they kill themselves.
The anniversary of Lee Sun Kyun's suicide is in two days. Will you be celebrating? I'd guess you did your part to bring that about as well. A**hole.
As for one of these people you're calling a rapist even though they weren't charged, I can't find anything online about that, which is how big a deal that is. You weren't there, you don't know. A court said whatever, but you can't let it go.
No more wasted google time for your BS, loser suicide-enabler. F**k off.
Always nice to see these two each week, even if the "I like you so in order not to hurt you, I'm going to leave and torture you instead, and then come back but not tell you" trope has shown itself in an otherwise very good BL.
The great acting continues.

I sure am glad I stuck around.
Happy New Year!

Love how transgressive and un-PC this show is. Also young men portrayed as they are in real life, horny 24/7.
Good for a few laughs.

Won't keep me from watching episode 9 though.
