Help?
Google translate says the title of this show in English is " Miseinen: Mijukuna We Are In Trouble," but gives no translation for " Miseinen: Mijukuna." Are those nicknames for the MC characters? Can anyone fluent in Japanese help me out here?

Thanks in advance.

Episode 5:

Goodness. This show has become excellent.

The two mains have beautifully portrayed the ongoing development of their relationship in a believable and moving way. Not too quick, not too slow, with plausible fits and starts and hesitations along the way. Nicely done. My heart has been warmed by their interactions more and more as we go.

Haruki is SOOOO appealing a character, in that even given his horrible circumstances, where Jin is concerned he always sees the bright side: "Hmmm...he said 'not at school...'" lol I love him. :) He has so many valid reasons to be bitter and angry at the world, but most of the time he's laid back in the face of the shite coming from all directions so unfairly.

As hideous as his character is, Okui Shuji is great as the abusive dad. He seems very real; not a caricature such as we see so often in this type of BL parent. Also, the physical violence is believably blocked and acted by him and Kamimura Kenshin as Haruki. Totally feels real. Every time the dad punches that gorgeous face with those glorious cheekbones I cringe. As I suspected and as I watched the brief preview, it's only a matter of time before Haruki stands his ground. Thing is, will he be the one in trouble with the usual dumbass authorities if he does so? Yes, probably.

Way too many time-filler flashbacks in this episode. What's with showing half the episode, then breaking for the intro section/song? Kind of messes with the flow. Same with the end credits that start popping up in later scenes. Is that now considered a cool thing to do among Japanese BL makers?

Also...what's with Haruki's mom being 30 years old with a baby? And how on Earth would she not know, given that she left Haruki's dad because of his behavior, that those cuts and bruises are NOT coming from school fights? The way she's written so far, she comes off as a clueless b***h who's happy to look the other way. But seriously, is that supposed to be his birth mom? Did she have Haruki at 16 years of age? wtf?

Despite all these complaints, the good stuff here more than atones for the negatives. I just keep thinking how good the show would be if those negatives were taken care of.

Note: The freeze-frame image at the very end of the post-episode preview is stunning.

Reviewing the end of ep. 4 before beginning ep. 5: I have to say again how stunning Motojima Junsei's acting is when Jin pulls away from that kiss and with tears in his eyes, says to Haruki "I don't want to study abroad..." Broke me.

"oooooooooooh...you are IMMATURE!" That's a winning argument for sure, Jennie Maturity.

Thank god, then I can look forward to no further pointless replies from you. Thanks.

Hi Jennie.

Oh you poor baby. Someone "attacked" you by pointing out the bogus aspects of your comment. Someone "rained on your parade" with some snark on the Internet. How will you live?

As for trauma, I think I qualify: I am gay and knew I was "different" from about the age of 4. I was raised in a religious environment, endured 8 years of parochial school, with church and Sunday school where I was taught every day to loathe gay people and myself. Naturally, I stayed in the closet out of a survival instinct. I often entertained suicidal thoughts. I was traumatized as f**k, Jennie, so you know, zip it. Your assumptions are s**t.

Did anyone say you weren't entitled to your opinion? No, no one said that, least of all me. What you are NOT entitled to, Jennie, is a guarantee that no one on the Internet will challenge your statements.

Finally, you're a female, either straight or Lesbian or bi; I don't know. But since you're not a gay man with the experiences of a gay boy in his psyche, maybe you should watch BLs as the typical ignorant, straight Western fujoshi you are, who knows zero about the reality of being a gay boy/man. Consider enjoying your BL fantasies, but maybe shut it with the perspective-free comments.

Can you quote me where I told you to stop watching BLs? Thanks, I'll wait. I drop lots of BLs, Jennie. I kept watching this one because it is more good than bad. Making choices about which ones to watch and which ones to drop is the result of possessing "discernment" as a personality trait. Look it up. It's not a "watch them all or watch none of them" issue, though you'd like to pretend it is.

The absurd, double back-flip trope of not one, but TWO characters "doing what's best for the other behind their back and without communication" is NOT a common trope outside of BL World. Furthermore, the tropes were executed here with zero originality in the WAY they came about or played out. It's always some meanie adult forcing a dude to "go abroad" to study, blah blah blah.

I know this because I'm not 12 years old and I watch lots of feature films from all over the world.

You need to expand your viewing experiences and start learning some discernment before you lecture anyone about what are "common"
fiction tropes. Good god.

The fact that this trope has been used 5,000 times before, and the lack of any attempt at creativity or originality in using the tropes again, without variation in this show, is the problem. It's lazy writing/plotting/direction. And people like you explaining the tropes as if they're not something we've seen 5,000 times before, is just lame.

People who love other people don't abandon the people they love without explanation or communication, for their own good; at least not at the rate we see it in BLs. It's absurd, lazy, and silly. You pretending it's a story line to be taken seriously is also silly.

When did I say or imply I've been 100% honest in my life? However, I've never even considered abandoning someone I loved without a word because Daddy made a threat, or I just thought it was better for them. How insanely cruel is that? And these people never consider ways to fight back. The kid who got beaten could have told the dad to back off or he would go to the police and reveal to them all the bruises on his body from being slammed on by the old bastard. Instead, he meekly kneels before the old sadist and plays along, just as they always do with this trope.

Lame.

"They both thought they were doing what was best for the person they love!!! "

So you've seen "tons" of BLs and you've never noticed that this "doing the best thing for the person they love" without telling them what's going on, devastating them and breaking their heart because It's what's best for them, instead of standing strong together thing has been done over and over and over 500 times?

Finale:
Well, thank god for the VERY end, because the SUPER-DUPER DOUBLE FLIP-BACK TROPE FEST that led up to it had me rolling my eyes and was pissing me off with its absurd lack of any attempt to be original or mold-breaking. So the ridiculously implausible ending was no more implausible than what came before, so I forgave out of relief that I wouldn't have to cry myself to sleep tonight.

Excellent acting from the two leads. The development of their relationship and the believeability of their affection for each other, which had me in tears during their relatively tame intimate scenes, were both well-done. They even overcame the limitations imposed by prudish Chinese writers/director that limited their ability to fully express that intimacy as two men their age would naturally express it.

Now, why in god's name did we need that annoying side-couple arc? Why would Teacher Liu be attracted to anything about that seemingly mentally-challenged five-year-old child with a terrible bleach job? And the whole thing with Liu's psycho mother...a waste of time.

It was fun to watch Turtle evolve from a seeming jerk to a charming hottie.

This is difficult to rate. The leads and MC relationship are at least a combined 9.5. The writing/plot is a 4/10.

6/10

Ep. 11:
The two leads are great actors; increasingly so as the series has progressed. And Teacher Liu is fine. But whoever cast the Urine-Headed boy should be fired. The entire side couple arc is mostly a waste of time. The endless, improv'd lovey-dovey scenes are embarrassing and way too long, most feel like filler.

The side-plot still seems to be toying with something I thought surely this thing didn't have the balls to tackle...but maybe I'm wrong. With one ep to go though, I doubt it.

I tried to get into this, but Kim Jung Kyoon's acting as the father with CP isn't working for me. I constantly see him ACTING like someone with CP rather than being one. I'm sure he worked hard on the condition's characterization and physicality, but it's not coming across as true for me. There's no way I can get into the plot while being distracted by this problem.

Dropped.

Wow, glad to meet you. My name is Tim. I live in the state of Kansas, dead center on a map of the United States. I bet it is beautiful where you live. I have watched some charming BLs out of Vietnam, and two or three excellent mainstream films. I will keep my eye out for more.

So, is your modesty with words a religious thing, or simple cultural conservatism...?
