lol
I don't watch 90% of BLs that are produced. If you think I leave comments under "every BL possible," it's because you're stalking me.
This show is made just for you. You make up fantasies in your head and project them onto the screen in place of what's there. Where a story has holes and inconsistencies, you fill in the blanks from the same source. You're afraid of gay male sexuality, so you are comforted by these absurd depictions of men acting as if they've been neutered, and who behave irrationally in a hundred other ways.
Yup, just as I suspected! After perusing the squealing Little Girl comments below, it's clear this show is to be enjoyed by the JBL Takara-kun & Amagi-kun/Our Dining Table crowd, wherein fluff is king, cute is queen, boys are stupid, and have had their sex drives surgically removed, so as not to scare the Little Girls with their icky erections and stuff.
ep3/4 - can we talk about how cool wataru's ex-gf is, her style and vibe was awesome- although the way she broke…
Did you find it at all credible that she, or any other woman, was this obviously gay man's "girlfriend?" There was zero spark or sense of couple-dom between them. I laughed.
Had potential, but so far is blowing its chances. Leads are appealing, but script and plot are weak, and rely far too heavily on cliche'd storytelling devices. Wataru, who narrates, and from whose perspective the story is told, is played as if on the spectrum. Inumerable clues are ignored, dismissed, or overlooked completely, just like we've seen in a hundred other Jbls.
I'll keep watching now that I'm caught up and will get a week-long break between episodes. It's not a hate-watch, I don't feel strongly enough about it to qualify as one.
But, Minato's demeanor and neck are sexy, so there's that.
I think this is an excellent slowburn that actually shows the complexity of human emotions when they're made to…
I am the opposite of a "McDonald's BL fan." I love the unexpected, the quirky, and the unusual, including slow burns. But slow burns have to be done well, and I'm bored out of my skull at this point. Every story has already been told. Where creativity and originality arise is through HOW the story is told, right? But this one is counting off cliche after cliche after cliche in how the slow burn is being presented. I'm mystified where you're seeing something new in this show.
Unexplained, irrational separations of TEN YEARS between people who were inseparable. Neither of them has a phone? One, who apparently was NOT afraid, still disappeared for ten years, then shows up and says "move in." Really? WAY too many cutesy attempts at fluff and sunshine scenes that don't work between these characters. Several times, I felt I was watching "Bad Buddy" or some other nonsense. Out of nowhere, Wataru has a what? Girlfriend? Wait...WHAT? In what universe is this guy not entirely and obviously gay, and why were we given zero indication of this and earlier "girlfriends," other than through exposition? During ep 1, the first time Wataru mentioned that they "each have girlfriends," I laughed out loud. The sudden appearance of Wataru's parents, who we're to find quirky and adorable. So...where have they been up to that point? Oh, and the group scenes and the fluff, let's-take-photos-togther scenes...pure cringe. Bad acting all around. Everyone trying too hard. It's like watching community theatre where everyone in the chorus overacts.
I'll keep watching because I like Minato and his neck. I found the show today and binged 1-4 to catch up, and that was a slog; I skipped ahead during 3 and 4, but still, not much happened. But now that I'm on schedule and can take it one 24-minute drag at a time, I'll be able to stick with it. Surely, I can endure 24 minutes...?
Not bad, as low-budget Internet series go. Considered against its peers, this is above average, at least so far.
The little guy is carrying the show. He's a good actor, with natural charisma and charm far bigger than he is. :) When I first saw him, I was like "who's this goofy little guy?" But by halfway through ep 1, I wanted to eat him like an ice cream sundae.
While watching, I realized I've never made out with someone wearing braces. Seems like that would be potentially painful, awkward at best.
Maybe it's because of Lee Sangmin, but Love in Protocol has higher production quality than GND Studio's previous…
I enjoyed My Damn Business a lot. It's a great example of how little a small budget can matter if you have strong actors with chemistry, and at least a presentable story. The cliche I use is "heart." If a show has that, most of the work is done.
Somewhere between garbage regarding itself as high art and high art slumming as garbage. I'll need at least two more watches over the next year or so to decide where on that continuum this flick resides, so for now...5/10.
The term "Boys Love" (BL) is far too often tossed around MDL as if it were synonymous with "Gay-Themed." It is not.
Anyone who doesn't understand the difference between those terms should stay far away from this movie. It has nothing in common with "Bad Buddy." You have been warned.

Why don't the makers of episode dramas like this simply release it as a short film?
