This series is impressively awesome, despite its small budget. Love the dark actions and motives, especially as portrayed by the evil half-brother/aspiring CEO. The actor playing him may look 14, but he comes off as a 35-year-old Yakuza. Great job!
You should shop this drama around to one of the big BL studios, get them to finance SukFilm to produce a full-blown version of eight 30-minute episodes with a decent budget.
Or maybe symbolism and metaphors take time and the longer the time takes, the more the audience can feel the characters…
The first fan theory you mention is a classic, homophobic, faux-Christian Catholic one in which gay people can only exist as a product of evil, for evil purposes. If Tan succumbs to the temptation that is Barth, he is a failure and corrupt.
Imagine viewing a fellow, fully human person as having been created for the sole purpose of tempting another person to Satan and damnation. What loving god would do such a thing to either of its creatures? The hateful, disrespectful view of God defies belief.
Yet, that is exactly what the Catholics, Evangelicals, and other "conservative" Christo-fascist churches teach. I know, I grew up in one. I loathe the words they put in the mouth of Jesus Christ, who was all about love, acceptance, and non-judgment.
"Episode 4 was the first time we saw Barth and Tanrak’s relationship evolve into something far deeper and…
You didn't "point that out" until just now, but thanks.
Do you believe that episodes 2 & 3 showed Barth and Tanrak in the throes of unbridled lust, and only lust, for each other? Do you believe that during those episodes, they primarily saw each other as pieces of meat, complete with beautiful pecs, abs, glutes, and schlongs? Or was their initial attraction to each other primarily mental/emotional? Do you believe their lovemaking in the bathhouse was purely sexual in nature? Is it possible that their physical and sexual attraction to each other is all mixed in with, around, over and under emotional/romantic attraction, as is the case with all human lovers?
I distinguish here between lovers and horny humans who hook up to satisfy their baseline sexual needs and for no other purpose. Are you suggesting that before Barth came to the church/school, TanBarth first met on Grindr?
Please consider that the director is deliberately choosing his Bible verse episode labels to highlight the clear disparity between those black/white Catholic Church teachings and the gray-as-f**k state of reality, and thus the real-world way in which those teachings shame and torment gay men. Those teachings afflict young, straight couples, too, but to nowhere near the degree they do gay couples. The difference can be measured in light-years.
Why would Master Phak have a crush on Tanrak? Genuinely in what world would that make sense?
Hi Anne. Please consider reading my reply to your buddy Kei above. It is meant for you, too.
You don't "understand" because you choose to pretend you don't understand. If you really do not understand, then please refrain from discussing topics below your level of emotional maturity.
Why would Master Phak have a crush on Tanrak? Genuinely in what world would that make sense?
Oh...I see. You're one of those...MDL children with the delusional beliefs about human mental/emotional/sexual development.
OK, so let me tailor my response to fit your limited mindset: My overall answer to your question is "So what?"
Clarification of "So what:" If Tanrak is 17, he will magically transform into a "grown-ass man" at the stroke of midnight on his imminent 18th birthday, correct? So, he's damn close already. If Tanrak is already 18, then he is already a "grown-ass man," correct? In which case, what is your problem?
Now...I take Master Phuk to be in his mid-to-late 20s. You likely take him to be in his mid-to-late 50s, is that correct? Even if he is in his mide-to-late 50s, he and Tanrak both are adults, or almost adult, so what's your problem?
Even if MF is in his mid-to-late 50s, he is still capable of falling for a 17 or 18-year-old, as are all adults, isn't that correct? Or would that make him a mentally ill pedophile in your highly educated and scientific view? What if he fell for Tanrak and chose to do nothing about it, ever? Would he still be a mentally ill pedophile?
From within your font of bottomless wisdom, have you concluded that when humans hit the magic moment of adulthood at midnight on their 18th birthday, their psyche magically adjusts so that they are only capable of developing romantic feelings for other humans above that magic threshold, and become incapable of developing feelings for humans who are aged below the hour of 23:59:59 on the day prior to their 18th birthday?
If so, could you please provide links to the scientific and social/cultural studies you have consulted in reaching these conclusions?
This kind of thing usually irks me too but idk I get the feeling we are catching the Itsuki character at his breaking…
To clarify, I actually like that Itsuku is in the story, doing the things he does. His actions are upsetting, annoying, appalling, infuriating, etc., all the irritants that make for good drama. I'm irked at the character, not at the his presence in the plot. If he wasn't there, I would have fallen asleep during episode 1.
Or maybe symbolism and metaphors take time and the longer the time takes, the more the audience can feel the characters…
It IS possible that the apple meant nothing and was only an apple.
But...that seems unlikely, given the other religious references being thrown around here.
This director may have a tendency to reference things he doesn't fully understand, which would explain both the apple and Michelangelo references being clunky.
Thought about even for more than a second, the "Creation" reference is clunky anyway. In what way is Barth the God to Tanrak's Eve? Which makes it even sillier if later on, Barth is the snake to Tanrak's Eve. And in the director's vision, Eve turns down the apple, after which the snake takes a bite of the apple it just offered her. lol
Oh yeah, I think the director should have hired a qualified Biblical scholar as a consultant. :D

Great work.
Sequel please!
Rated considering budget/time limitations:
9/10
It's not often my comments or I are described as "brilliant" here on MDL.
Much more often, it's "hater," "pedophile," and "old man." :D
(How are you able to post emojis here? I don't get that option. Are you using something downloaded from the web?)
