15 days of rest for a sprained ankle?! That’s pure comedy. Utter nonsense!
EXACTLY. I spoke the same words in an earlier comment. That is just one of many absurdities the Thai writers who took over at episode 8 wrote into the screenplay. Wang gets around between classes just fine, and when he is in class he's sitting on his ass. The idea anyone would be given two weeks off school for this minor injury is absurd. I had kids in my high school class still attending school with a full leg or arm cast. One girl wore a horrible full upper-body cast to correct a spinal malformation. It extended above her head and held it motionless with big screws. And yet, there she was in school every day. But yeah, go "ask a doctor." lol
funny how people labelled the on1y one as bromance now just because they're not yet tgt and no kiss after ep3…
To this point it is a censored Chinese bromance in every sense other than where it was produced. And now that I know this has been airing in Communist (lol) China, I'm thinking there is no way there will be any kissing; the dictator wouldn't allow it.
Because it is the comments section, and we are allowed to talk to each other -- even where our opinions differ…
Bravo, but pay no further mind to the comment above. It's meant as a dig, not a coherent assertion. Plus, you are one of maybe three people I've seen say they're dropping the show.
It's funny how the same people who have said that they have dropped the show are still here commenting. I think…
Who has said they dropped it other than br85? He watched nine episodes of it, thus his comments are as relevant to this point as anyone else's. Is there an MDL rule stating one may not comment further on the thread of a show they have dropped? Link, please.
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
Don't ever apologize to me for "long" messages. I enjoy reading comments from thoughtful, intelligent people.
oooooh...Europe! What country?
For me, it's not that the teacher scenes are "over the top" in the way they are acted (except for that absurd kidnapping thing) or presented. It's that they don't matter to the core story at all, and are the definition of "filler." Plus, they're incoherent and confusing. They don't send mixed signals that in the context make sense; they don't make sense period.
Please help me out: Communist (lol) China has a ban on gay content, correct? But gay content from outside the country is allowed? Or is it that this show, now that I think of it, is a censored bromance, not a BL. We viewers are riding on the assumption that it qualifies as a BL; perhaps it qualifies only as a censored Chinese bromance, which I refuse to watch as my own little boycott against the gay ban. In general, I watch almost nothing of any kind out of China.
I never consider the source material when evaluating an adaptation because in almost all cases, the adaptation makers are by contract free to change/add/delete whatever they want. Far too many MDLers watch BLs with the source Manga/Manhwa/Anime in one hand and a note pad in the other. That's not how it works.
Why would a screenwriter/director compromise the quality of his product out of an urge to unnecessarily remain painfully true to the source?
"The most important: SW. What should I call him? He's not just face-blind, I'd say... He is not aware of his feelings at all. He only realizes in episode 10 that it might be something other than “brotherly love”. It seems to me that love between men isn't even on his radar." This absurd premise exists only in BL World and nowhere else. 17 year-old boys do not get to that age without knowing who and what they are sexually attracted. They may be afraid of it, they may not want to acknowledge it, but they KNOW long before 17.
Furthermore, I have to disagree: I have watched and listened to SW in many situations thinking about what he is feeling for Tian and also being sexually attracted to him. That's where the script fails most egregiously: It wants it both ways: The guy is feeling, thinking, and noticing his gay urges; but he is ALSO somehow unaware of them. Nope.
I get the feeling Tian WANTS to admit his feelings; he's waiting for Wang, the clueless wonder, to catch up. Tian is very upfront and unashamed of his desire to take care of Wang and protect him. He has made many displays of this desire in front of whoever happens to be there. He does not care what they think. In fact, he has spoken those very words more than once. To paraphrase: "Who cares what they think?"
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
oops! Yes, that is the scene I thought I did share. Thanks for the correction. But you are mistaken: this scene was included in the U.S. theatrical release, but not in Europe.
What annoys me is there are numerous points in the series to this point where normal people, especially two horny young men in love, would have kissed, they wouldn't have been able to stop themselves. Where is the human passion?
Oh, and if there is a teacher bed scene, I will be fast-forwarding through that as quickly as possible. I don't care about them. Their jumbled story is a mess.
I don't watch Internet interviews with directors, actors or otherwise before completing my watch of a series. That is all white noise to me, intended to distract from what has or has not been put up there as the actual product on the screen. I don't care for the idea that the audience should have to know and have seen all this peripheral input from IG, X, and TikTok to fully understand and appreciate the story teller's vision. It should be there in front of me on the screen.
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
It's not a cliche to accurately point out that a LOT of people these days feel they are never more alive than when given the opportunity to be OFFENDED, I TELL YOU! OFFENDED!
I'm sticking with "the kiss as rebuke and corrective to human cruelty and suffering."
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
I have to disagree about The Fault In Our Stars. First of all, it was shot in a recreated set in Pittsburgh, not in the actual Frank house. Secondly, horny young adult threatened with death, and in the throes of first intense romantic love, kiss nearly everywhere they can possibly do it. Neither of those two characters was thinking "oh, we're in Anne Frank's house, we can't kiss."
Going a step further, I found the portrayal of that level of joyous, human love and affection, reflected through a kiss, in the face of the intense human suffering and hatred that took place in that place to be a glorious REBUKE to said suffering and hatred. Even in the darkest, most hateful circumstances, there can be love!
I remember upon seeing the film "Anne would have approved." What I DID find tacky was the cheesy bit with tourists applauding them. Just a little bit too much.
I still can't believe Speilberg cast Ansel Elgort, then at least 12 years too old for the part and who can't sing, as Tony in the West Side Story remake. But then, I still can't believe he made the film at all, and I was happy to see it bomb.
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
Bravo! I came up with kisses in Pride and Prejudice, The Notebook, and The Fault In Our Stars but wasn't up to searching out the others. How amusing to know that out of the seven kiss-free films this person was able to come up with, they were wrong on SIX of them. hahaha
HOW ABSURD that people want TO watch A KISS IN A ROMANCE STORY, mention the straight romance stories that don't…
It's revealing that out of thousands of movie romances you came up with seven kiss-free films, and you are mistaken on three of them:
Pride and Prejudice 2005 is one of my favorite movies of all time. In the U.S. theatre release, the film ends with a kiss on the terrace of what is now Mr. and Mrs. Darcy's estate. Everybody else in the world was robbed. Watch the perfection: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_lN3btA4unE (European audiences saw a facial cuddle that might as well have been a kiss.)
As for "no kissing" in the Notebook, here you go: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_lN3btA4unE This kiss won kissing scene of the year at that year's MTV awards. This is one of the most iconic modern-day film kisses ever. You have no idea what you are talking about.
You: "These films showcase emotional depth and connections rather than physical affection. "
Please explain why sex-phobics like you believe a film cannot do BOTH; that the choice has to be one or the other and there are no gradations in-between. Please also, if you have a moment, explain why you are vehemently opposed to the depiction of the the act by which most people on this planet express their romantic affection for each other?
The comments 💀 "where's the kiss"Now I couldn't be more happier that this series is the slowest burn ever and…
Ten years old and growing more afraid of sex with every heartbeat. Lord, the fact you're this snarky about people wanting a freaking kiss and describing those who do as "horny" indicates a level of MDLer sex-phobia far deeper than most. It's entirely natural and human for an audience to want to see making out between supposedly romantic partners in live-action drama. It's you who see kissing as something nasty and inappropriately sexual who are the weirdos.
But Wang character is same like FL in hidden love when she was in school.she did it more than Wang as school student…
Are you talking about the actor playing Wang? No, all he does with his eyes is look at whoever he is speaking to. He seems to be a good, spontaneous weeper, so that's good though.
I have never, in any of my comments to you, said I do not "like his character." That is you projecting your thoughts and responding to them. Please try to read MY words, not the ones you come up with in your head.
Does Wang use those three expressions "every single time?" No, likely not But using them 95% of the time is pretty close. It seems you are advocating for the actor, despite his shortcomings. You're not objective about his capabilities so I'll be dropping this discussion.
But Wang character is same like FL in hidden love when she was in school.she did it more than Wang as school student…
I did not say the actor is "overdoing it," I said he has three facial expressions, which he uses over and over, and that's it: Pouty lip face, frowny-lip face, and innocent-clueless face. He's very handsome but he's not a good actor. His range is limited.
I see him PRETENDING to be a character by using cliche acting expressions; not BEING a unique character he created, as Tian is doing.
But Wang character is same like FL in hidden love when she was in school.she did it more than Wang as school student…
Meh, I don't do Chinese censored bromances, and hardly anything else out of China. My little revenge for their hateful gay ban.
That said, this dude is pretty, but I'm not into supposedly gay (straight? asexual? bi? who knows?) characters staring meaningfully into each others' eyes for 20 episodes.
But Wang character is same like FL in hidden love when she was in school.she did it more than Wang as school student…
haha you're a mess. The "deaf" dude in Sunspot talks a LOT. All the time, in fact. I dropped the other two in the first episodes. Plus, the topic you're trying to argue with me about is over your head. I won't be engaging further with you on this matter.
