Wow, after two episodes, the biggest takeaway from this show is that it is amazingly boring.

I'm weary of female, Japanese drama characters who crush on someone and then act like meek, wounded, little birds in their presence, shrinking away from them and saying "...hmmm" a lot. This character type is such an extreme cliche and it too is boring.

Oh well, not ready to drop yet. Maybe something will happen in episode 3.

Hiro never said "ok, that happened, but I don't want to do it anymore," or "I'm not really comfortable with that, even though it felt incredibly terrific and I came quickly, as you pointed out," the topic of sex was just never broached again, which is odd.

I can't say how much the platinum blond look figures into this, but what's really sad is the lengths a lot of Asian people of both sexes go to to make themselves feel as if they look more Western than their natural look. Especially in Korea, plastic surgery in the form of nose jobs and the creation of "double eyelids" has become extremely common, as performers and the public alike strive to look "European."

What's even extra sad is there is NO surgery on Earth that is going to make them completely free of their natural, Asian looks.

And what's even sadder than that is that Asian people in their natural state are to me, the most beautiful race in the world. Korean men especially, slay me in a way that no Western dude can ever do. Precisely! This is what's wrong with the writing of MANY BLs. Because the makers are afraid of cultural disapproval, they play down the sexual angle, which is often prevalent in the original source material.

The MDL Little Girls here often scream and screech "if you want non-stop fucking, go to a porn site!!!" They seem incapable of grasping that there are a lot of possible way stations along the way between no sex and unrealistically frigid young male characters, and full-on, close-up scenes of genitalia and penetration, complete with cum shots.

Actually, the hand job scene in the first episode is a great example of this. It was made completely, hilariously clear what was going on, and the scene cut long before the coming cum shot, but we knew, plot-wise, that there had been a hand job, which is what was both titillating and funny.

The weird thing is how there has been NOTHING along those lines since, and no explanation of why there hasn't been, which could be another way to go. SEX, or even the implication of sex, scares a lot of people here.

I agree with you about the writers making Soga not only plain-looking, but boring and dull as a person. I've been attracted to guys who are less than gorgeous because of their personalities/sense of humor/etc. But Soga is a loser in all departments. :)

Funny you mention the hairstyles, I got so curious about those awful, modified bowl cuts we see so often in Asian film/dramas, even on grown men, that I googled it and read up on the origin and persistence of the style to learn what the hell was going on. A lot of hits came up and many were a fun read. Turns out a LOT of Asian men regard bowl cuts as ridiculous and unflattering but wear them anyway, because the cultural pressure to do so is so strong. lol

Even among Korean and Japanese students in the U.S., who mock the bowl cut, many wear it anyway. :)

Mizuki's hair was driving me crazy because the bangs are so long, down below his eyebrows, that he is actually looking THROUGH them to see the world. You see that frequently in Asia too. ugh Also, while platinum hair can be striking on an Asian man, I have yet to see one who didn't look much, much more handsome with his natural, black hair. The reddish, hennae rinse is also a big deal in Asia. I suppose they get bored with having the same color hair as every other damn person around them.
