I'm mid-watch, but I'm going to throw this into the ether.... Why does the synopsis say she's in a coma when it's not even hinted in the plot until it's revealed in episode 23? The synopsis basically gives away a HUGE plot twist that would be far more impactful if you weren't expecting it.
It's definitely going to be awesome seeing him in a full 16 episode series as the ML though! My Second Lead Syndrome from 'My Roommate Is A Gumiho' can finally recover a little.
OH GOD the cringe is real! A.C.E is my absolute fave k-pop group, but for some reason I can't stop cringing at Kim Byeong Kwon's overwrought acting. Any scene he shows up in I can barely watch :'( I was hoping to love him in this show!
I love that they showed so many aspects of consent in this movie. Like when she commanded him to date her and…
I don't think his relationship with Ha Na was a dom/sub one. In the scene where he was explaining it to her he said something like "you know how we like to bite and spank sometimes?" which gave me the impression that they had a normal relationship and she just dipped her toes into the super vanilla side of BDSM play without being aware that's what it was.
As for the trauma he experienced from his ex, in my opinion I believe it stemmed from rejection. Being called a pervert and being told that he needed therapy by the person he was in love with was likely quite damaging. That side of him was just who he was. When she rejected and belittled an important part of him he felt worthless and unwanted. I think that's why in the scenes we see the female lead saying things like "I just don't understand why she couldn't just go with it" the look on his face is one of disbelief and awe. Hearing that from a woman instead of disgust likely made him feel accepted and loved again, even though he wasn't very quick to understand that himself.
I think Ha Na came back because even though she didn't like that side of him the rest of his personality was perfect. He was attractive, had a good job, was respectful, kind, and considerate. She was at war with herself for missing Ji Hoo after breaking up with her most current boyfriend, and likely the contrast of dating some sub-par man couldn't measure up to all that Ji Hoo was. When she started breaking plates at his house I think it was anger and jealousy that he wasn't waiting for her to return to him.
The English dub was... fine I guess. I think in general English dubs leave a lot to be desired, Idk if it's because…
Starting from my anime watching days I've never appreciated English dubbing. It always sounds like they stepped out of the sound studio, grabbed a couple passer-by, dragged them into the recording room, handed them mics, and said "read these lines". The emoting is lifeless when it should be passionate, aggressive when it should be calm, and dramatic when it should be understated. I make it maybe 2 minutes into something dubbed before I nope the hell out. I commend your fortitude!
One of the main criteria in the DSM5 is if you are distressed or impaired by your fetish. People who enjoy themselves…
@Ivy YESSSS! Thank you for saying this! I work in psychiatry and we don't take issue with kinks or fetishes unless there is an addiction or danger associated with it. We have a psychiatrist that specializes in sexual addiction disorders and the hand-out he gives patients is like 40 pages of VERY DETAILED questions regarding sexual habits. In my 14 years of working in mental health and addictions I've seen less than 10 patients with a diagnosis of some kind of sexual addiction or disorder where the doctor felt psychological treatment was necessary.
Remember that Consensual - is most important in any relationship ….A no means NO
I love that they showed so many aspects of consent in this movie. Like when she commanded him to date her and he firmly said no. Once he gave her his answer she didn't push him or turn it into a dominance thing. She backed off, got embarrassed because she did it (and that she didn't expect him to say no), and then had their final play without trying to cut him off or make him feel guilty for stating his boundaries. There was a part in the bondage scene when she leans over him and he raises his head off the bed like he's going to kiss her, but drops it back down. She leans over him and gives him verbal permission and he immediately kisses her. It was super subtle, but spoke volumes about consent. Then while he kissed her, which blurred those boundaries for her and seemed to confuse her, she asked him to stop and he was quick to do so.
Ji Hoo was such a marshmallow, BUT the way he stood up for Ji Woo and other co-workers showed that he was a good man that had strong convictions about right and wrong. Watching his interactions with female peers showed a level of respect and courtesy that I wish we could all see in the work-place from our male co-workers.
M tripping at the dog scene 💀💀💀💀ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I cringed SO HARD at that scene! I had to skip ahead a couple times then pause it for a minute and do something else to get over the second-hand embarrassment haha.
This made me laugh SO HARD in some scenes! What a wild ride, and I think I'm in love with Jun Young now. The infatuation started with Let Me Be Your Knight but this movie cemented him as my absolute favourite. He's such a versatile actor, and his facial expressions are just *chefs kiss*. I got ALL the feels for his character because of how well he was played.
I watched this on Viki where the title is "Just Between Lovers", but I noticed some people in the comments not liking the different Netflix title of "Rain Or Shine". I thought the title of "Rain Or Shine" was so much more appropriate because the ice cream shop in the mall where they first saw each other was called "Rainy Shine". 'Rain Or Shine' is an idiom that means that something will happen no matter what the circumstances are. It can also be compared to the emotions tied to the weather: rain = sadness, and shine = happiness. The story focused on the healing of their trauma as they fought to live a normal life while overcoming the extreme guilt of being alive and finding happiness, so as Sang Man said "To someone who doesn't know darkness, there's no light for him either."
