this was such a cathartic episode. i found the 2nd couple so funny. moeum swinging her feet talking to SR and rambling nonsensically to danho was so funny 🤣 SH pointedly ignoring FL’s ex was also funny 😂. i liked how SH handled his employee and the way he called for his mum when he was sick. his parents talking to each other was heartwarming and i hope they can all sort themselves out 🥺

i went through the whole episode struggling to understand SR only to get to the end of the episode to realize i am Seokryu 😔 the way this drama has managed to create a character that feels so real is crazy. this drama is very imperfect but i understand what they’re trying to do. i feel like a good number of first daughters would find the FL relatable as i do. it’s very hard to remember to lean on people for support when the last thing you want to do is feel like a burden. when seokryu was trying to make her cancer not feel like a big deal, that hurt me because she was still trying to prioritize everyone else in that space

i can’t even hate her ex and i really hate that. it’s not easy to take care of a sick person so i understand him. but him voicing out those thoughts is just something you can’t get back from. i thought his part was handled well even though i feel like it should have been shown way earlier in the series and flowed through

i don’t agree that she doesn’t like SH. she doesn’t want him to have to deal with her being sick. this is her default setting and healing will be a super long process. i’ve read something that healing is a journey not a destination. i hope that Seokryu can open herself up to light and to love and not put on a happy face for the sake of everybody anymore. she has gone though so much

i get you but i think we need to remember that these two DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF BOUNDARIES. it’s been pointed out a lot of times
yes he made it about him but what if she died?? everyone has a responsibility to carry. it’s her life but others will deal with the fallout that’s how life goes. yes she should be afforded her space but at what cost?? she’s literally suffering. how long would she have kept it to herself? if she relapsed how would it have even stayed hidden?
again i get you but this is something seokryu would have done in his position. these are people who barge into each others rooms at will. i don’t think there’s any line they can’t cross tbh 😭

but i really liked this episode. let me calm down and drop my thoughts later 🥲

he didn’t even know what was going on with her so how would he even have understood? also if she wasn’t going to give him an explanation, he wasn’t going to leave. that’s how their relationship is. why can she be clingy and not let him be but he can’t?

as much as i would have preferred another illness or situation, the cancer makes sense and it wasn’t out of the blues. pregnancy would have been ‘dishonorable’ to her parents most likely and a mental breakdown would have made her parents even more insufferable. i just hope they tie it up cleanly
people mentioned that her discovering her dream would also be similar to her loving SH and this ep proved it when she said, ‘but Seunghyo is just Seunghyo’. like cooking, she can’t see the love that’s been right in front of her this whole time and i can’t wait for it to hit

now to the heavy stuff
the highlight scene of this ep was SH’s mum trying on her bday gift 🥹. how symbolic was the empty birthday card which told a vivid story of the family dynamics, ‘no words’. no words to express how they feel. no words to apologize. no words from either of the parents to pull the family back together. no words to let her son know that he’s bought her the same thing for the last two years. when she put on the necklace and said ‘it’s prettier than the last one’, tears rolled down my eyes 🥺. i wonder how they’ll get back together

i know this drama is asian but a good no. of african first born daughters (im one) go through some of the things SR does. the expectation to succeed is different. from early on you’re very perceptive to your parents struggles and unconsciously begin to take on their burdens. if i was sick and in her shoes, i wouldn’t even tell. she should tell the parents who treat her like a god? or the stupid brother who she works hard because of? very cold of her not to tell SH and moeum but be fr, her parents would have heard + she’d feel like a burden. she’s used to figuring things out alone and her punchable-faced ex is unfortunately the only exception to this

you know the sad thing about her parents? there are a lot of them in reality. it actually takes something life-threatening for them to change. see how all the talking she did changed nothing? redemption arcs don’t come so often in real life even. i hate how life-like they are. same with her pathetic shithead brother which if you really noticed, has been a man child since day 1. that gym scene of him and SH’s employee should have told you he really wasn’t bright so no surprise there

the way people exaggerated about ep 8 really scared me. i enjoyed it a lot and i actually laughed in some parts. quote of the year, ‘if you’ve drawn the knife you should cut something’ 😂
i also appreciate SH’s self-awareness of the confession scene. tbh, i felt it matched their vibe. anything extra would have been too much imo
the expiration date thing was funny 😂 and unique to them!
i also laughed when SR shouted in her class and the dinner scene of moeum and danho
i love SH’s confidence in this episode. neomu sexy 😌

that proposal in the preview is bothering me. like i had to go back to analyze the setting of the cooking academy but i wasn’t sure. my bet is on present day. let’s see

y’all when seokryu was with moeum and she was talking about coming back to korea and how the thought of seeing “him” made her heart feel like it was going to burst, i felt like that line was about seunghyo and not her ex! because why would she be worried about seeing her ex in korea when he isn’t based there??

i find it engaging though. do some scenes feel draggy? maybe. but i find it engaging so that’s probably subjective
