I have been watching his older series, where he is the second male lead or a supporting cast. In return the world to you, they dress him down so much but at least I can hear his real voice.
That's because they are the same actor😂His name is Jeremy Tsui and he's the ML of Novoland 2 and Chong Zi.
In his younger years, he looked immature and not as attractive ( hence, people believed he had work done with his face)! His acting skills were not great either. I watched him in a few Hong Kong movies, not that impressive! I’m glad that he took his time to learn and mature. In an interview, he said that he loved when people said he improved a lot!

I think Lou Ying Fan is very cool when he casts his spells. I’m also impressed with his wardrobe, very elegant! But looking at Jeremy Tsui like this, I can’t stop thinking about Zhou Zheng Zhi in Ten Years Late. It is such a funny but inelegant character! Totally the opposite!
I have tried to watch the show as it is instead of thinking of JOF. After I let go of my expectations of ml as a good person and a romantic line between LAF and CZ1, the show makes a lot more sense to me! LAF takes CZ in as a very young girl and spoils her like a pet/daughter. But after realizing her feelings for him, he plays with her heart a little bit then rejects her. So the chemistry at her fist life should be father and daughter relationship. Her unrequited love is just an accident. Someone mentioned the cut scene of him confessing to her corpse, I’m glad they cut it otherwise it would ruin the story ( at least for me!) But with CZ 2, upon noticing she is a young woman (not his little girl), he shows his lust and secretly seduces her. I like how he looks at her with the white mask on. Or when he teaches her to control her weapon, his actions and eyes are full of tenderness. She is completely innocent next to him! Usually we have likable or cold but warm hearted characters as the main leads. It’s rare to see an anti hero as a main character. LAF is a perverted selfish old man wearing immortal clothes in my opinion. I think JT doesn’t suit to play a good sage, but he is good as LAF. On a side note: BTS cuts, JT looks very cute and kind with the little kids on set. Besides, he and YCY seem to be closed as well. He fed her water on set and she came to visit him on another set. I don’t know why they kept their distance at the promotion event! It’s a little strange!

Thank you for all the explanations! Now everything starts to make sense to me! Since many people compared this show with Journey of Flower, I expected LAF to be the pure and loving master, who tried to control his feelings towards his disciple. But from the start, things felt off! And I thought it was the bad script and acting! Especially at the beginning, to me their relationship is more like companions and he looks at her as his favorite pet! But later on, I see him actively making Chong Zi fall for him! Which kind and pure master would do that? Personally I’m glad that the master is more evil than the little demon herself!
