I came to this drama to mainly watch Lou Ying Fan’ s wardrobe and spell casting. I ignored the screenplays and the actings for a long while. However more and more towards the end, my heart aches for Lou Ying Fan. While Chong Zi’s pain is external, Lou Ying Fan’s struggles are internal. He suffers in silence, but nearly blames no one. Everyone asks him to choose, but nobody offers supports. For hundreds of years, he carries the duty of protecting the world. The sense of duty is indented in his mind. And for hundreds of years, he falls in love for the first time. Hence his stubbornness to defend both his love and the common people is understandable! Unfortunately, nobody, including the love of his life, believes that he could fulfill his wishes. In this journey, he is all alone! At least in the end, he makes the choice that allows him to stay true to his goals, a purified Chong Zi and a world for common people! While I enjoy this version of LYF, I am disappointed by the writers downplaying Chong Zi. The development of LYF shouldn’t cost Chong Zi her active role. At first, she moves the story but slowly she just reacts to situations. This imbalance makes the show really hard to watch for me! However if you wonder whether you should watch the series, try and decide for yourself. Like it or not depend on your preferences, expectations and even your life experience! Many people like Autumn Ballad, but no amount of admiration for Jeremy Tsui could stop me from dropping that show. At least, with a lot of skipping, I could reach the end of Chong Zi.
On a side note, I want to thank you everyone for enhancing my viewing experience with your thoughts and observations! Most people in this community are polite and respectful! The interactions remind me so much of my college years! So be safe and happy everyone! Have a good spring! 😁
Drama Wiki has March 15. Have no idea where that date came from.
I’m thinking of getting Viki yearly subscription instead of monthly. But if they can’t get the license for the show, I will need to really think about my subscription!
If only they communicated that straightforwardly, there would be zero misunderstandings! If I were Chong Zi, I…
Haha, he is trying to be better but too bad no support from his sect, they even trick him into drinking those tears! Those evil sages deserve to be slaughtered, but bad people live long! Can’t do much about it! 😫
Yep they should have a heart to heart conversation and clear out those misunderstandings. And if something happens…
Yes, I like your thoughts on this! I don’t agree with some of his actions but I understand why he has to do it! Feel bad for him sometimes not all the time though!

I totally agree! I want the same too! Although I don’t like Chong Zi’s behaviors, she has not done anything evil! She only defends herself, and tries to be with the man she loves! She doesn’t deserve to be tortured or die! About LYF, he has tried many ways to be with her while protecting the world. When we were put in the situation to choose between our family and our partner. I believe many of us would try to convince our family to accept our lover. We would try not to give up on either parties. So his indecisive response is understandable. Albeit I don’t like it! The only people, who are evil, are those useless sages. I’m frustrated talking about them!

In her first life, he chooses the world: in her second life, he refuses to choose, he wants to protect both! And this time, he is trying to be with her wholeheartedly! So if she sees that and forgives him after the kiss, shouldn’t they discuss the situation they are in? Like I said, the writers are toying with my little heart!
I knew something would have happened to him because I saw the trailer for the later episodes. But I didn't know…
I don’t like it either! But somehow this type of story makes us long and savor their sweet moments more! Or maybe only me thinking this way! I think I’m going insane! They are playing with my little heart too much!
If only they communicated that straightforwardly, there would be zero misunderstandings! If I were Chong Zi, I…
From the beginning, he is not the type of explaining everything to people around! And after what she has gone through, I thought she would push him to tell her everything, just in case!
The show suddenly got much better (to me!!) when LYF snatches Chong Zi then kisses and proposes to her. His eyes look sincere and full of emotion! But all of those could not make me trust him when he asks her to wait for him! If I were her, my lines would be “no no no! Last time I waited for three years and you didn’t even show up! This time, I’m going with you and if those old bastards don’t approve of our relationship, I’ll kill them all! You are not getting out of my sight!”
The 4-day gap is just too long, especially when the drama is not critically acclaimed. People will just end up…
I actually feel bad for JT, he has carried a few series by himself ! I think many networks know he could do it so they keep paring him with newbies. At least so far they get his series out of the door as quick as they could! Nowadays, too many series never get to see the light of day!

Back then he was only playing supporting roles or second male leads at best in Hong Kong movies and some Chinese series. Check out The Child’s eye movie, if you want to see his early acting. But every time I saw something about him, it was about his dating life or he borrowed money to buy his ex a fancy car! I just don’t care for artists who attract too many gossips and rumors! I think he is more calm and charming nowadays!
