Am I the only not seeing the hype ? And I'm speaking as a Gong Hyo Jin fan. I found this drama subpar at best.…
As a Gong Hyo Jin fan I thought this suited her. She tends to take on roles that challenge expectations with women who are dare to be different. Thats part of the reason why I love her as an actress. Considering this is not her first role where she is in a relationship with multiple people, I also think this is a very fitting role for her.
I can't get mad at the movie but I will be mad at the characters lmao. I think the writing does a good job of portraying how difficult having multiple partners can be when not everyone is 100% on board and not everyone knows how to communicate. Sometimes the lead was scary :/ I wish they focused more on the other characters, like the wife and her other husband. But the movie is already 2 hours long lol i liked it
I really liked the natural feel that came out of Oh My Ghost. A phenominal cast and inviting/comfortable directing made for a good (though controversial) show.
One thing i wish this show did more of was use its setting. Like for example it'd be funny if there was a running joke where a lot of the guests would all make the same mistake and the owners tried more and more elaborate ways to notify guests not to make the mistake (putting up a sign and then getting crazier and crazier). I feel like a guesthouse is a goldmine for uniquely funny situations and its a bit underused. Still I like the show a lot. They get pretty creative with their elaborate schemes.
Best Supporting Actor: Im Joo Hwan from Bride of the Watergod also best villain???? Best Villain: Im Joo Hwan from Bride of the Watergod. It was always kinda unclear which one he was. Best Korean Drama of 2017: Age of Youth 2 Best Comedy: The Boy Next Door Best Movie: The Villainess Best Actress: Park Bo Young (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon)
Yeah this hasn't been the best year for kdramas. T_T I still want to finish Suspicious Partner but it's a struggle. I also watched Queen for 7 Days because Park Min Young... but I honestly would have dropped this along time ago if I wasn't using it for a drama challenge. Actually the drama challenge is kind of the only reason why I haven't dropped most of my dramas on my currently watching list (besides Scarlet Heart, that is a great drama).
I can see what you're saying about Jealousy Incarnate. I did end up mostly liking it, but i can see what you mean. I'm struggling to finish Suspicious Partner right now T_T I really liked it when it started out but its difficult finishing that last stretch. I really want to though.
Lucky Romance
I think F/F friendships is definitely something we don't get to see often. I think this might have something to do with shows typically having a small cast of women in general. Girls are also often pitted against each other, forever doomed by the jealously fueled dynamic of liking the same guy. I think it also has to do with that common problem in writing where girls just aren't valued as characters unless they're used to enhance the value of male characters and their storylines. Luckily there are exceptions.
These are some dramas that I don't think have been said already that include F/F friendships:
Cheese in the Trap
Seonam Girls High School Investigators
Descendants of the Sun
the Reply series
Oh My Ghostess
High Society
Legend of the Blue Sea
Suspicious Partner (Cha Yoo Jung and Na Ji Hae)
"Turns out bad writing ruins couples, not the people in them" LMFAO XD This was a really interesting article! Thank you for writing this!!! I hope you do make it to 50 because I would love to see more data to this. It's such an interesting way to look at how dramas are written.
The thing I found interesting about this drama was their play with tropes. My friend and I tried to figure out... but the show would give both Jung Hwan and Taek classic second and first lead tropes throughout the show! It was excellent use of an audience's expectations.
also best villain????
