Epi 54 and 55 Loved the convos between HBY-CSS, CSS-YS and HBY-YS. CSS mom apologized again, but this time face-to-face. It was good to see the mother-daughter finally unite but I don't know...though five years is a long time, I still feel like she was forgiven a bit too easily. She must have greatly missed CSS during this period and the mom and grandma truly repented, but it's probably because the drama didn't show us their repenting as much as it should have, I feel like it happened too fast...at least compared to HBY.
One can definitely see a lot has been skipped. Everyone's suddenly in Hua county and so many things happened so fast. Because I already knew about the editing and maybe because I was expecting worse, I wasn't too disappointed. Yanji and her husband are birds of a feather. Neither one hesitated taking the wrong path and that stupid Lou Li deserved what happened to her.
Yishang are finally back together. That's a relief. Can't wait for tomorrow to see the final epi. Did He Zhaojun's baby survive those falls? I am surprised that she didn't go to labor right after the first fall. Poor YS. It must feel terrible to see two lovey-dovey couples in front of him.
CSS and HBY meeting after five years was heartrending to watch, with both CSS and HBY looking sad and surprised. I loved the parallel they showed between the past and present when CSS gets up on the horse; the youthful CSS and LBY of the past versus the mature CSS and worn out HBY of the present. The makeup department have also done a really good job here with both of them looking visibly older, especially HBY who is distraught and battle-worn. And their aura is also different, so kudos to ZL and WL as well.
Miss Luo is evil or what? Always thought she was cunning and manipulative, and that reminds me, how Consort Yue was quick to notice her slyness when she easily discarded her servant back then. She is one perceptive lady, isn't she?
So sad for the Empress; she had everything but also had nothing. She was truly a mother to CSS and she had always seen HBY as her son too. But somehow it always seemed like HBY kept distance from her and never truly regarded her as the mother figure in his life. It was nice that he was finally able to open up and let his tears flow freely and the mother-son had a final heart-to-heart moment.
What happened to Qi? Why is Ah Fei the only one by HBY's side now? Did I miss something?
@first snow55, I agree with you and just as amazed as you " by Wu Lei's acting in the revenge scene and it's aftermath.…
@lilan has already explained why Ling Yi was suspicious.
As to why he said those things to wife, it was made clear later on that he actually didn't love his wife and their marriage was pretty much a farce. He only married her coz she already knew about the stuff he had done and was blackmailing him. No way he would actually let her know the real situation, and at that point he still didn't know LBY's real identity. So whether he was suspicious of LBY or not, maybe he was thinking he could still somehow convince his son and reconcile with him.
The trailer looked good. Can't wait for this to hit the screen. The cinematography is to die for.https://twitter.com/gongjun_/status/1570249222032850945?s=20&t=o3hxRC706zU72o2OpC5iCg
This drama made me do something I haven't done for any drama in years. I watched four episodes in a row. Yes, I totally dislike binge watching and I can't manage watching more then two episodes in one day. But after epi 48 I just couldn't stop. I was seriously amazed by Wu Lei's acting in the revenge scene and it's aftermath. Starting from the ruthlessness, followed by the shock, disbelief, madness, grief...the play of all those different emotions in a matters of seconds...it was sheer brilliance. Not just Wu Lei but Lusi too. She has been completely flawless in depicting all the different sides of Shaoshang. They were both brilliant in these episodes. While I thought Wu Lei couldn't top what he did epi 48, I thought he was even better in epis 50-51 and Lusi was just wow in the last scene of epi 51. Hats off to them.
The supporting cast deserves applause too. The Emperor, Empress, consort Yue, YS all were fantastic.
There is one thing I didn't understand though, which seal did HBY actually use? Was it the one the crown prince had, or was it the Huo family's one? Does it mean no one else actually figured it out that the seal was replaced by HBY?
CSS mom finally realized that she has wronged CSS. Is it any surprise that CSS chose loyalty over filial piety? I can't bring myself to completely sympathize with her yet. She still has a lot to make up for. I also think part of the reason why CSS chose to stay at the palace with the empress is not just to keep her company, but also because the empress is the only one who can truly empathize with her. Her own family, no matter how much they love her, cannot fully understand how she feels.
As for HBY, it's really sad to see that despite everything he was probably still hoping somewhere deep down CSS wouldn't part ways with him. He still wanted to explain. No matter how painful, this separation is necessary for HBY to fully leave his past behind and both for both of them to heal.
The events of Shouchun city are very confusing to me. Did Lou Ben actually orchestrate the whole thing or did…
Yes he did say that his pride didn't allow him to take any help from his sister-in-law or something along those lines when He Zhaojun said she would have helped him too.
In my opinion, it's like a promise written or in this case bitten in blood. It could also be seen as wedding vows…
I can understand LBY not showing any pain, he suffered worse injuries and probably quite used to holding it in and he didn't show any pain when CSS pulled out the arrow either, but it's strange that CSS didn't even flinch.

Thanks for the explanation. It doesn't make complete sense to me either because it feels so abrupt. Like you said, he was probably too proud to rely on someone else, that's why he kept refusing LBY's offer. But when he said that he did it for Lou Yao as well, that just sounds like an excuse too me. Lou Yao already married He Zhaojun and pretty much grew a spine at the time of their wedding and told off his uncle and aunt. It was probably all just for his ambitions and his moral compass was skewed.
Wu Lei and Lusi's acting in epis 46-47 is just incredible, especially the part in epi 47 where they make the oath. I replayed the whole scene just to watch their micro expressions. But why did they bite each other?
The events of Shouchun city are very confusing to me. Did Lou Ben actually orchestrate the whole thing or did he just take advantage of the whole situation by framing Cheng Shi and Yan Zhong? This part is still not clear to me. It seems like major chunks are missing here due to massive editing.
