the novel actually ended at the part where gaojialin broke up with huang yaping, was fired from his job and returned to the village as farmer again. in the novel, gao jialin never went to shanghai after he was fired, but in the drama, he eventually went to shanghai and started a new life there. from episode 20 to 37, we wont know what will happen because it was a script added by the drama production which i think is a very smart decision and added more interest to the drama.
from the trailers, it seems that gao jialin achieved his dream and became a writer. he also continued his relationship with huang yaping. qiaozhen and mashuan had a daughter together.
this is a very good realistic drama! the plot is very engaging and all the characters feels so alive and real. you will sympathize and relate with their struggles and life choices especially gao jialin.
iqiyi revealed that chenxiao's other drama titled 'rensheng luyao' is in the march list of drama to be broadcast. unfortunately, 'the ingenious one' is not in the list . 'rensheng luyao' might air before this drama.
