i agree for such a masterpiece drama ending could have been better or more clearer, i feel like the end credit…
I think this one stings more since there was so much potential and I really did care about the characters. The ending was happy, but I am unsatisfied and disappointed.
I have to say, the first 15 or so episodes contained some of the most beautiful, sincere, and charming moments I've ever seen in a drama. But much like Changyu's precious hair zanzi, those moments were put into a box and shelved, only to be forgotten---much like most of the delicate character development.
The extras were so unfulfilling; they felt tacked on and like a waste of screen time. Much like the scenes with Changyu and that Li guy, they were just a waste of minutes. So... is Changyu just a princess now? Is her pig-butchering past just a smear?
There was no character compromise where Changyu, the pig butcher, has to rethink her identity as a general. And forget about second chances; even in his new life, Qi Min is still paying for it. It seems like changing or improving as a person is impossible in this story---unless you just fully change the timeline, but even then.
When she came home in those final moments, I thought it was a dream sequence. Why are the main characters utterly unchanged by the events they just experienced? The editing with the uncle also threw me off. And since when is Changyu’s aunt/mother friendly with the pig squad?
Honestly, this wasn't Changyu's story, nor Lin An's, nor Xie Zheng's. It wasn't the parents' or the uncles' story either; it was no one's story. Not even Gongsun and the princess got a final moment. There were still so many issues between the main leads that needed clearing up.
This could have benefited from proper linear storytelling starting 17 years back, instead of leaving us in the dark the whole time. It had no payoff.
While I'll still praise the acting, chemistry, cinematography, costumes, color grading, CGI, and fight scenes, the story kept throwing itself off a cliff---but never quite dying.
Lets not pretend that if FCY was a ML, everyone would be thinking how cool she is. Seems like only males can disregard orders, but when a women does it?

Actually totally agree, but I have seen people complain that the ML is not getting enough screen time or is being overshadowed. Your points are valid, theirs are not imo
I dont get why folks are complaining, this is one of the few dramas where theres an ACTUAL fem general kicking ass. You want to see a guy overshadowing the FL in the battlefield, then watch literally any other drama. Serious, no matter how badass, the ML always rescues FL and gets the glory (somehow, the badass, powerful, FL gets nerfed). You wanna see ZLH be cool in a fight? Theres ALSO a ton of dramas, let me watch my little TXW be super rad, let the gal shine in a fight.
This drama is sweet, funny, and surprisingly touching. The banter between the leads and the way their bond grows is full of warmth, making it easy to root for them. Some viewers get stuck on the idea of "grandpa romance," but the story is clearly about soulmates and fate, just like any vampire or immortal tale. It amazes me that people can't tell the difference between fiction and reality. Within the world of the drama, the love is real because it's about the soul, not the surface. If you can accept that, this becomes a truly unique romance worth watching.
