Brilliant review! You should post it (including addendum about romance).Yes, this was a terrible mess and I dropped…
good idea! i'll be prepared for the rabid fans with their pitchforks 😂
Yup. It got worse after ep 8. 7 and 8 were so, so bad. It picked up only slightly in 9 and became shate in 10 and onwards.
YES! Honestly he's one of the worst I've seen as well. Everything is Haram focused and his fangirls are all like omgggg hes so pretttty!! his red eyes are so niceeee. He seems to be quite reserved/awkward in his media interactions and I feel like he brings that quality to his acting as well - sigh. I've seen all his work cos it usually has other cast members I like and I've never been impressed. Idk how he received an award for Romantic Drs 2. The writing probably helped alot cos his character was tsundere like his real personality probably and I was underwhelmed with both him and Lee Sung Kyung (another overrated actress by intl fans who cant act at all and is only liked becos they think she's pretty n tall. eyeroll). He probably earned a ton of rabid fangirls from there who weren't about the acting either but all about him being tall, "handsome" and having "amazing kiss scenes/chemistry" with LSK. The chemistry again was non-existent.
The worst bit about the blind acting is that he said himself that he observed real blind people/researched them. Dude. This is how you imitate them then?! I dont even know why SBS let this crap actually get aired. Like, the audience has so manyyy options these days with Netflix etc and competition is tough and yet they think this was okay to be aired? Ughhh.
This is a little off-topic but I honestly think that locally produced K-dramas remain such a niche internationally (except in certain regions in Asia) cos of the over-focus on looks and not actual acting talent. Like you've mentioned - the idols/idol-looking actors/actresses are always given roles despite such horrible acting (some in a similar age group and who resemble ahs - shant name names lol). Even some of the more seasoned actors are known for their looks more than their talent. I could name names too but probably not here 😂 I've actually come to expect poor acting from K-dramas - that it's the norm and not the exception. The industry there prizes looks and connections more than anything else sadly.
The ratings are only high because they are mostly given by people who are shipping the non-existent chemistry…
yess!! the comments don't reflect the video at all. n idk if you noticed too, he seldom talks to gong myung. Ive watched ahs in other dramas and I noticed that he seems really awkward bts and doesn't interact much with his co-stars, especially his leading ladies. He seemed okay-ish with park bo young but even that is a big maybe.
The ratings are only high because they are mostly given by people who are shipping the non-existent chemistry…
Lol 😆 sigh...i thought they had potential at the beginning y'know. But it never really went past a mild spark. Also bts, they seemed quite awkward n uncomfortable. Kyj seemed to click better with gong myung.
Lol I loved your review! One of the rare few ones that made sense. The majority of the people stanning for this…
Oh and I forgot - the Romance. The non-existent romance. Lol. So.. 2 kids met each other ONCE x years ago, kissed? (I cant even remb now lol). and suddenly they are pining for each other for yearsssss on end. And when they meet it's supposed to be epic but like we got this dry ass romance in their adult years lol. Unrealistic childhood love trope needs to diee. At least getting them to meet and get to know each other all over again in adulthood would have made more sense. Also they kissed once suddenly in ep 6 - based off a memory - and then he pushed her away - wad is that even? AHS & KYJ also have no chemistry so combined with their paltry "romantic" scenes tog, we got this non-existent love story. And yet people are stanning for this. lol
Watching episode 15 became like an homework assignment. I thought HCK going mad for a bit with the yelling scene…
Lol watching anything after ep 6 for me was like homework assignment. I kept trying to see if anything would happen but it's 11 hours of my life I can't get back smh.
The directing and writing certainly get most of the blame. The director could let Haram act like he could see everything when he is blind as a bat (esp in the middle to later eps). Writer - don't even get me started cos nothing in this drama is outstanding or makes sense. The characters are so flat and poorly written. I do wonder if the Haram character in particular could be elevated by a stronger actor though. I've never found AHS to be a good actor. He is stiff, can't emote and has little chemistry with his co-stars, esp his leading ladies. He does well in roles like romantic doctors 2 cos those are tsundere characters, probably just like his real self.
Planned to binge this when it was completed but I am confused. How can the rating (8.4) be so high but the comments…
The ratings are only high because they are mostly given by people who are shipping the non-existent chemistry between the ml/fl lol and aren't the types to deeply analyse the show - as you can see from the ramblings all over the page. Those that appreciate abit of analysis to their drama watching will certainly enjoy this as it doesn't take much to realise nothing makes sense.
This is why I’m not a fan of historical fantasy kdramas or just modern fantasy dramas anymore … for some reason…
Yes. The writers don't seem to know how to make the rules in the fantasy world make sense. They spend alot of time on the plot in the beginning then start to lose sense of their own plot lol.
This drama has been repetitive and draggy since early on though. Nothing exciting happens. In fact nothing happens. Or Makes sense. lol. Characters repeating the same things the audience already knew from the first couple of episodes. "Conflicts" making no sense etc. Tons of flashbacks (aka lazy writing).
Lol I loved your review! One of the rare few ones that made sense. The majority of the people stanning for this show don't seem capable of making any sense in their ramblings or capable even any in-depth analysis of a show, except foaming at the mouths over the FL-ML chemistry, which is practically non-existent!.
Gosh this show was a colossal waste of 11 hours of my life I will never get back. I kept watching to see if it'd get better but...it didn't.
1. Nothing makes sense? What was this writer even thinking? There are several different themes/threads running at the same time. Yet nothing was properly explained.
2. There isn't much progression each week with the audience being told the same things repeatedly with nothing being resolved.
3. No character arcs/growth. I actually wonder why any of the main 4 took this drama. Plot is a mess, but the character arcs for each were bad as well. Like Kim Yoo Jung’s HCG only existed to simp after Haram and paint and act like a silly Joseon candy. Gong Myung’s character was straight up annoying. And Kwak Siyang’s villian was just a one-note dude that didn’t appear much anyway. Haram is - what is he even doing?
4. Very little chemistry amongst the cast and between the leads. I wonder if this is also due to the writing. cos I thought AHS and KYJ had some semblance of chemistry in the initial eps, but it disappeared suddenly. BTS – everyone seems awkward with each other, esp AHS who usually has no chemistry with any of his leading ladies anyway.
5. Really basic dialogue between characters. Dialogue is a tool to let the audience learn more about the characters themselves, to reveal thoughts, motivations etc and to give a sense of the dynamics between characters. But you have characters instead repeating things the audience already knows about and saying the most inane things which didn’t move the plot forward
6. Acting. None of the main 4 could elevate their acting above the bad writing. All the characters were one note, though I felt that Haram – if given to a different actor – could have been more complex, more nuanced and layered and more emotional.
6a. And I've never thought AHS to be a good actor, why is he being given lead roles? Just cause he's tall and "handsome"? - I don't find him good looking. SK loves giving roles to tall/"handsome" men who can't act and he's one of a dozen. He has no chemistry with ppl he acts with, always seems aloof, no emotional connection with his cast-mates in scenes and behind the scenes, no emotional connection with the audience - I never feel anything for his characters. He's so bad here! He just had the same usual facial expressions and rarely emoted. PLUS it really bothered me whenever he seemed to know who/what to look at. Isn’t Haram blind as a bat?! Yet he could ride horses, fight with people (whilst looking at them etc). What even. This became blindingly obvious in the later eps. Also, I feel like I’ve not seen KYJ in a good role since MLDWC. Her saguek roles all seem to be the same which is making me start to think she's not a good actress/really bad at picking scripts.
7. Too many flashbacks. This is the epitome of absolutely lazy writing and shows that the writer doesn't know what to do with the plot anymore except to insert a flashback.
Just utterly boring and what a let-down from the aesthetically pleasing teasers. It's no wonder SBS never bothered promoting the cast or this show. They probably saw everything that went down and was like yeah, this sucks LOL.
