The first half is her trying to have free will by changing the story but that's all forgotten when she falls in love during the second half. It ends with Dan Oh and Haru becoming nameless extras in the writer's new story, free to behave however they like as long as they don't draw attention to themselves.

There's *some* free will here, but the fact that they can't really do anything tells me it's not actually free will. They're still trapped in a story at the mercy of the writer, even if they're extras. That's my interpretation at least :(
