the best (?!worst) villains are those who don't look like villains at all....that ed has used so many people to carry out her dirty schemes and keep herself clean....that is why the lishan scholars did not even want to take medication from the kingdom rules by her....trust me....she is the worst of the worst....

rewatching ep. 1 again!! 😍 so many things are becoming clearer.....the whole house plaque thing was engineered by ye li with the help of the little step-brother in order to open "her" dowry as presented by her step-mother in front of everyone so that she could get back her real dowry....her uncle and fei bei (who was the security head at the ye mansion then) also helped.....and right on the wedding night when mxy was wallowing in self-pity bcos she was married to a cripple, she told him that she was grateful to him for helping her come down the mountain....whihc made another thing clear...ye li had permission to enter the mountain freely but to come out she needed imperial permission!!!! that wicked wicked ed....i hope she gets all that deserves, in the end...and all her helpers 🤬🤬🤬🤬

i think the epidemic happened a couple of years after her mother died....when she was living back at lishan....so she had a good couple of years at lishan after her mother died....whihc is when she may have received the martial arts training and studied with the teachers as an adult (apart from the training in the early years)....so i am guessing the timelibe is: till the age of 10 she was travelling back and forth between lishan and her father's place....in this duration, on one the trips with her mother, she was rescued by mxy....so she was, let us say, 8 and mxy was 18.....then between the ages of 9-10, the whole death of the emperor, death of her mother and giving the sweets to mxy happened across several months.....then between the ages of 10-13, she lived with her grandfather, tutors and seniors at lishan getting over her mother's death and learning stuff.....then when she was in the 14th year (when she can look like a young adult, as some girls do) the disease struck and everyone died....then from the age of 14-18, she was all alone....at eighteen she got married...mxy was 28...because in ep. 29 (?) she says he is in his 20s and already gray.....the events of the drama after her marriage are all taking place in the same year....so the current time period of the drama is the year of her marriage

fei bai left earlier.....he had no idea about the disease and the intervening years when she was there alone....till after he met her and saw her hallucinating about master zhu......about her immunity....in ep32 (33?) you can see that she was not allowed in the sickroom...she only delivered the medicine.....so until her grandfather was dying, she didn't come in contact with the sick....but qinshuang had longer contact with the dying grandfather, while she went to try to go down the mountain.....of course, immunity also definitely feature, which is why she was not affected at all.....

i liked star in my mind....it was fun.....also, you are right, he does depend heavily on overused tropes....but i feel (of course, i may be totally wrong) that he prefers to explore young love....and the truth is that young love is uncomplicated....it really is mostly about attraction and friendship...so essentially there is not much to convey....but within that, he manages to convey the innocence, the sweetness, the young sorrow, the uncomplicated fights....so while i agree with you in principle that as a director he hasn't really tested himself ....as a producer he seems to be trying.....i can't remember the names but recently there were two bls whihc he only produced but were directed by others, which i liked....

but new siwaj always makes really cliched dramas but somehow they are very good....to watch...

i just started watching this without reading this page.....couldn't even recogise the boys!!! from lovesick !!! wow...expecially progress....he looks so different with the loner hair.....

just rewatched ep. 1, after seeing all that followed.....the whole monkey thing became clear....in the years she as living alone, ye li would go into the woods to gather food and when she came back in the evening, especially in winters when it gets dark sooner, the monkey statues which mxy sees in ep. 31, used to scare the living daylights out of her, in the semi-darkness....then when she came back in, the tree banches blowing in the winds made her think those monkeys had come for her....and SHE BIT HERSELF!!!! it is shown clearly in ep. 1, she biting herself!!!! this is trauma of a whole different level!!!!

no kidding!!! i saw that bts of bai lu playing the crying ye li on lishan (i guess a scene from sp. 32)....it was amazing...
