so the fl is from the modern world??? seems unnecessary because (correct me if i'm wrong) in the novel it doesn't mention anything her about returning 🤔 hope they removed that from the drama
anyways if you want to subject yourself to being annoyed 80% of the drama then feel free to watch! otherwise you're better off watching a compilation of moments between our leads because frankly their chemistry was the only thing good about it but i'm just sad the script didn't do them any justice, they deserved better 🥲
there are times when a drama simply isn't on your radar as it's not the type of genre/plot that you usually watch but for whatever reason you decide to give it a chance and you end up pleasantly surprised. this drama was the case for me.
in terms of the story and world building, it was certainly a unique one. if i'm being honest, i don't know if i ever fully had a grasp on what was happening (maybe i'm just slow lol) but it was interesting to watch everything unfold along with the characters. as someone who hates when dramas drag, it's such a shame episodes was so short. i think it definitely could have benefited from it being longer especially when it comes to giving screen time to other characters like long zhi. as a villain, she was both strong and weak. ruthless and powerful yes but also one dimensional, no emotional depth. i couldn't connect with her. i blame the writing for that one.
but the biggest reason why i enjoyed the drama? of course our leads. the romance. all i can say is just- wow. arguably one of the best couples in a long while. right from the start i was hooked on their chemistry and it just got better and better. even when they were just talking or looking at each other, i was giggling and kicking my feet in the air like a schoolgirl. and the sexual tension? had the fire department on speed dial from how my screen kept bursting into flames. it was ridiculous how 2 people can make me feel that way. they were the definition of a mature relationship; actually communicated, no unnecessary drama and full of respect and love. it was SO, SO refreshing to see and sad that it's rare in dramaland. and when they got together, sparks didn't stop flying. it really felt like they were a couple. plenty of natural skinship and (GASP!) actual adults kissing that i was blushing. what i loved is that they may be opposites; her fierce personality with his more reserved nature, they were both strong, loyal and protective of the people they care about. (seriously where can i get my own ye liu xi and chang dong?! life isn't fair) this was my first time watching them and ni ni and bai yu absolutely KILLED it. i was so impressed with their acting and based on the behind the scenes, i also have a huge respect for how they brought the script to life with their own interpretations.
but a team is not just 2 people - fei tang, ding liu, gao shen, a he, li jin ao and even our beloved roosters and geminus made the drama more enjoyable with their dash of humour and friendship. they smiled, laughed, cried and fought together.
i'm really going to miss them all so much. sorry for the long winded thoughts but i wanted to end things on a good note.
thank you everyone for reading my weekly comments! it's regrettable that there wasn't many of us here but for any newcomers looking for a sign to watch this drama: this is it. 🥰❤️
