"Goodbye My Princess" it's a drama that follows the love and hate relationship of Xiao Feng and Cheng Yin.
It's a pretty intense drama, so if you're looking for an easy love story, you'd better make another choice, because the romance here is doomed to tragedy. The performances of the three main characters are incredible, especially Peng Xiao Ran, you could feel all her pain, in an almost tangible way. It is possible to see clearly in two moments, when she realizes that she was betrayed by Gu Xiao Wu, that he was only using her and that he killed her grandfather.
And also Gu Jian's death, which I have to say was one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen in dramas. Seeing the expression of hatred on Cheng Yin, the desolation on Xiao Feng's face, and the smile on Gu Jian's face... all caused a mixture of emotions that I can't describe, but that impressed me greatly.
The romance between Xiao Feng and Cheng Yin is very engaging, they hook you instantly, but I think the drama made a big mistake in making little use of the couple. The entire first part of the drama happens very quickly, the two fall in love, get married and then Xiao Feng realizes that she was being used by Cheng Yin, that's when they fall into the river and lose their memories. From that moment on, the second part begins, as if it were a second life for the characters, going through the entire process of getting to know each other again, but that is exactly what the drama got wrong. We don't know when Cheng Yin falls in love with Xiao Feng and the episodes go by with just a few cute moments between them, but nothing very romantic or impressive. They should have made these two happy, at least while they could, because it was obvious that they would have a tragic ending, there was no way to fit in a happy ending for this couple.
Even though I liked the main couple, my second lead syndrome was intense in this drama, because Gu Jian is a wonderful character, it's impossible not to fall in love and root for him! What makes it worse is that Xiao Feng initially liked him, but since he couldn't arrive on time that day, Gu Jian missed his opportunity. Besides A'Du, he was the only person who truly cared about Xiao Feng, as her safety and happiness were his priority. Gu Jian's death is very sad, but at the same time it is the moment in which we see Cheng Yin's true colors, how cruel and possessive he is, since until the end he did not trust Xiao Feng.
