I'm not mean. I'm just talking about facts. I'm pretty sure that your vision is good enough to see yourself what he has done to himself. Without even a good reason for doing so because he is not that old after all.

If you do like him and you are his fan you shouldn't support this kind of sick appearance. It is neither pretty or healthy or good for him and for everyone else. It's just sick.

10/10, nothing else to say. The quality is out of this world. 8.1? MDL is nuts, who the heck is downvoting this?
I think that they use bots to manipulate the ratings. I have seen similar low ratings on plenty of very good dramas and on the other hand top ratings on dramas that their statistics indicate that they have been dropped or put on hold.

Check f.e the rating of Jirisan that stands on the exact opposite of what the comments and the viewership statistics indicate.

It has higher rating that Chimera though Chimera has higher viewership better reviews, more positive comments and less viewers that put it on hold or dropped it.

Foxes and plastic surgery... Lee Dong Wook used to be the hottest guy out there and now he looks like the skeletal bottoxed plastic version of himself. And he gets crap roles to appeal (while already in his 40s) to the 15 years old. This is not how he should deal with a middle age crisis....! lol

Perhaps it should be useful to look at the stellar example of Park Hee Soon, who becomes better as he ages and he knows exactly what his audience is.

i didnt yet watching My Name will watch it later tho.
I have noticed this. There are dramas that have top ratings because of the actors/actresses fans. But this is misleading for the producers too, because they are left with the impression that they did something very good while the production is crap and the viewership comes from the lead actors making them to stick on the same old crap.

I recommend to watch it though it doesn't have an extremely complicated plot. It is an action drama but very good in its category. By far better than other dramas that have higher ratings than this.

I wonder who are those who rate so high some otherwise unwatchable dramas and films. The reviews and the ratings are completely misleading in MDL.

Title Chimera Spoiler
After the 10th episode I don't think also that Jae Hwan's mom is the old Chimera because she was lacking the motive…
I think that jumping off the bridge was unrelated.
Perhaps she planned off or tried to kill the director, something went wrong while she was mixing the chemicals and she lost her memory and the cop took her out of the scene and changed her identity and reported her as dead to the director. Her amnesia if that was the case, was a blessing for the cop who wouldn't need to try hard to persuade her about her identity.
He probably told her that she survived from a car accident and that she is the person that he told her that she is. And then reported to the press or perhaps directly to the director too, that she was dead and that is the reason of the directors' present reaction. He considered her as dead from accident and he had no idea that she was planning to kill him too because ( perhaps) she didn't manage to make the attack.

The fact btw that I'm discussing the plot in the comments is the absolute reason for me to give a 10 to this drama. I'm huge fan of thrillers, crime and legal dramas and films. ( if you check my list I have watched almost all - I'm still updating my list) and dramas or films that their plot is predictable get in my black list.

The picture quality doesn't have that much to do with the year that the movie was released but with the fact that most streaming platforms downgrade the quality of the older movies in order to save their servers' bandwidth for the newer ones.

Title Chimera Spoiler
After the 10th episode I don't think also that Jae Hwan's mom is the old Chimera because she was lacking the motive…
I had the same thought at some point, that he manipulated her somehow to make the killings. But why didn't she kill him as well when she realized that he used her this way? Why try to kill herself and not him? It is not that she had any moral inhibitions towards killing with very imaginative ways and it wouldn't be that much of a problem to add another killing in the list of Chimera serial killer.

There is also another thing that doesn't fit in this scenario. Why did dir. Seo let her live if he was the one who manipulated her? The normal would have been to kill her as soon as she achieved his goals.

And even if the cop had arranged somehow to change her identity and made her disappear director Seo would have had every reason in this world to confirm that she was dead something that would required to identify her body himself ( or whatever body they showed him).
But in 10th episode director Seo didn't look as someone who saw in front of him a person that he considered dead let alone a person that HE would have killed or ordered to be killed.
He didn't look shocked, or panicked or something similar.

The killer would have needed to know chemistry but also would have needed a strong motive to get into the trouble to do these killings. And up to this point only two people seem to have had a motive.
Director Seo who got the credits of the projects and the heiress and Jae Hwan's mom to avenge the death of her child.
The rest were too young or not even born when the 1984 killings took place and their motives in the present are not the same with the motives of the killings of the past.

The director's wife btw seem way too informed about this case. What is going on with her?

Title Chimera Spoiler
Wow, ep 10 really moved the plot along. I’ll be so disappointed at this point if the reporter isn’t the new…
After the 10th episode I don't think also that Jae Hwan's mom is the old Chimera because she was lacking the motive to kill ALL the co researchers of the laboratory.

She killed the the guy that director Seo sent to threat her in order not to open her mouth about the chemical that they wanted to get approved, causing the fire that supposedly "killed" her baby, ( in quotes in case the child survived the fire and is the reporter), but she didn't have a really strong motive to kill all the rest of the researchers of the laboratoryand with such a dramatic way ( as Chimera with the lighter etc) . Not to mention that in the end she left alive the one who was responsible for the death of her child. So I have the impression that the old Chimera was a copycat too.
That Jae Hwan's mom did the first murder and someone else took it over and started killing the rest of the researchers.
The person who had the motive to kill all the other researchers was director Seo . That was the one who got benefited by killing all the rest as he ended up being the only one who got the credits for the chemical and married the heiress daughter of the company that bought the project.

Jae Hwan's mom isn't also the new Chimera because the new Chimera's motive is unrelated with Jae Hwan's mom's case. The new Chimera took revenge for the death of Joong Yeop"s dad in the hands of the police.
Even if the reporter was that baby that wasn't killed on the fire and was given for adoption to the lawyer, why would she bother to avenge the death of a person that she didn't know, and was completely unrelated with her own case, even if her case is the one that you assume. That Captain Han changed the identities of the mother and the child a etc.

On the other hand Captain Han had again no motive to do this. He had no reason to separate the mother from the child telling her that her child died and trigger her to kill the guy responsible for the "death" of her baby.

And at the end of the day HOW did Jae Hwan's mom survived the fire in the first place? The killing of the guy who caused the fire doesn't indicate that she was injured, nor that she had lost her memory in order to be easy for Capatin Han to interfere somehow and give her a new identity without her even knowing it because she had lost her memory and he told her that she was someone else.

They all lack of motives in your assumption.
Jae Hwan's mom didn't have a reason to kill all the researchers team in order to avenge the one that harmed her .
The reporter has not reason to avenge the doctor's dad death in the hands of the police.

The only person who had 100% motive to get rid of his team was director Seo who went for the heiress and the presidency of the company.
And in the present the doctor. Whose motive is to avenge the death of his father. Nobody else.

Those who were visited more often by their ( common for all ) husband had more chances to get pregnant and change…
Yes it was important to have not only one son but plenty of them. That was a necessity in older societies as the baby/infant mortality was high and the houses', tribes', villages' etc security needed plenty of men able to fight. And the only way for those of a higher social status to have this army of males that were needed for all about everything, was to have plenty of boys that could get by having countless children from multiple women.
This movie of course is taking place during an era where things had started to change and China had start to modernize its society. But the hierarchy of a society is usually the last thing to change particularly on domestic matters.

This is pointed out by the fact that the wife that couldn't adapt in this kind of domestic hierarchy was the singer who had already lived independently before her marriage. Song Lian didn't have actually any particular problem to adapt as she had an arranged marriage which was exactly what she was expected to do. She didn't have any other experience ... she didn't know any better so she went along with the already existed situation.

Edit to add. I've watched this movie back when it was released at at a cinema and it was one of the first Chinese art cinema movies that were released in my country. Up until that point the only Chinese movies were those with martial arts etc.

It would be a euphemism to tell that the audience was shocked from what they were watching, as all about everything were completely alien. The plot, the sets, the social customs all looked completely alien and unheard in my country. This movie had the ultimate WTF factor back then!

It's a memorable movie. It got me thinking alot about the culture of concubinage. What kept me thinking was: why…
Those who were visited more often by their ( common for all ) husband had more chances to get pregnant and change their status from that of a concubine to that of a respected wife and perhaps that of the "lady" of his house... in case they were able to born him a son.

Legally they where all his wives, as the law didn't allow him to have real concubines, women that would served him sexually without being married with him, but this didn't apply socially neither in the hierarchy of his house.

That is the reason why they were ready to kill each other in order to attract his attention and that is also they reason why Song Lian pretended that she was pregnant in order to push aside the other wives.

I think that the information about his child's death is not needed and it is unsuitable for an actor's bio. It has nothing to do with his acting career , it is very personal and very sad.
If you don't have any objections I will edit the article and remove it.

I watched 10 episodes and you did great job by dropping. The drama is too much suspense and lacks character development.…
I have watched a good number of dramas and I can tell by experience where most of the new dramas are going to go. I gave of course to this one a chance by watching four episodes which are in my opinion enough to get a good idea of how a drama is going to develop.
Sticking with an unwatchable drama for more than four episodes is IMHO a waste of time and energy.
I used to do this in the past, in order to see out of curiosity how bad can some drama plots get but now I value more my time and my energy and if I see something that it doesn't work at all I drop it without remorse.
The unfortunate thing with this drama is that is is overrated. I don't know where the 8,2 rating is coming from particularly by the time that neither the reviews nor the comments support this rating.
Do they use bots here to boost the ratings of some dramas or what?? Where does this rating come from?
Anyway. I did my duty. I warned you! Those who don't believe me are on their own! lol
