I don't really care what he posted on his social media. What bothered me about the role though was that he character…
girl there is like zero trans representation in korean media so picking apart the *one* time a trans character is represented isnt exactly constructive. these are crumbs of diversity. no its probably not the best portrayal (i mean they didnt even bother to cast an actual trans actor) but its a major step forward for lgbt representation and stories in the mainstream media considering korea is such a conservative society.
imagine defending him when half the male cast of this show are abusers or sexual predators in some way. if this was the only messy thing to come out from this show i could probably roll my eyes and move on but it just seems to be a pattern with this production. yall should care more about how this effects the female cast and what this says about their misogynist culture as a whole than the poor feelings of a grown ass man. sucks his career wont be effected as nothing happens to male actors in korea unless they do drugs or are gay. throw the whole show away
Do u even use instagram? Its not a thing u can do by accident it's a multi step process
because promoting rape culture (even on your close friends to your bros) is wrong actually. korea is already horribly misogynystic and the squid game cast is riddled with abusers and sexual criminals. i wish yall cared more about what this says about the men in their society. have we all forgotten about the nth room case?
lol who actually gives a shit… it’s mostly censored anyway 🤡whiny little holier-than-thou netizens. he…
saying this as if it isn't a wider indication of south korea's rampant misognystic attitudes are crazy. let us not forget about the chat rooms and how half the male cast of squid game are abusers and sexual assaulters
Engagement is important to gmmtv the ceo said so himself and these two don't generally gather lot of hype and…
forcebook geminifourth and seakeen were all newcomers that were immediately given lead roles. im sure engagement matters, but they've tried their luck with new talent before. aouboom have a pretty sizeable fandom and the acting chops so it feels a little ridiculous that they arent given at least a chance.
girl real talk i know this isn't "bl" and i literally went into this expecting them to be really bromantic but idk the shit saint says and does to shin like genuinely does not read as platonic. Saint why are you staring at shin like he's the sun breathing life into you? Shin why are you acting like saint holds your entire universe in the palm of his hands? It's giving rainbow flag and i'm not even at the part where they become friends again 😭
the og school 2013 definitely wasn't this queer coded so i'm trying to figure out how intentional it is. i'm not one of those people who thinks men cant have really close platonic bonds, but their relationship here is more romantically charged than some of the actual bls airing right now. also chadjen wants them to be boyfriends too and i stand with him
real critique time. as amazing as this is i feel like it would be better if we got more flashbacks with shinsaint interwoven throughout the story. I think if we saw more of that bond and how solid they were all leading up to the reveal of why they aren't friends anymore- it would've made it so much more impactful.
i tried i really did and it was cute but after 4 episodes i will be waiting patiently for this to finish airing so someone can upload a jeweltan cut lmao
love love loved this. both actors did an amazing job, but shoutout to taemin for portraying such a magnetic character. i think he executed every nuance of hotae perfectly. the most surprising part of this is how it feels like a genuine queer coming of age story (even if it's not particularly unique.) i feel like we don't actually get too many of those within the realm of bl. i was expecting just a silly little rom com and some fan service but you can tell the cast and crew really put their heart into this.
their chemistry is so great and i'm really going to be upset if there's not a follow up. I was lukewarm on the main paring in unintentional love story, but i would gladly welcome a season 2 as to get a continuation of donghee and hotae's storyline.
watching a literal 16 year old act out sexual scenes is vastly different from watching a 24 year old playing a fictional 16 year character act out sexual scenes don't be obtuse. All you do is sound like a predator.
It's easy to pour outrage online than bringing change in real life.
yall are ridiculous, using social media as a platform to raise awareness about issues is very important and can inspire change in many ways. Thanks to social media marginalized voices (like those in palestine for example) can be amplified by others who have the privilege to speak about them. I have been involved in many events that raise awareness for women who are being abused in abused in relationships, protests that spotlight sex trafficking victims, and for various lgbt groups.
it's very childish to claim we don't care unless we fly to thailand to change these laws. I am gay and i very much care that in many countries lgbt individuals can be imprisoned and or punished by death. are my concerns less valid because i'm not there? You all sound like your ability to think cognitively peaked in high school.
what's with the comment section. weird ass people. yall are making it more weird mentioning the age gap every…
the legal age of majority in thailand is 20 and the actor was 15 when he was cast. if you're going to defend this trainwreck at least know what you're talking about.
So much nonsense typed and even in Capital letters. The reason people are"whining" as you called it,isn't because…
"however 16 is no longer a child"
Firstly, i never called him a child, I called him a minor. Which is what he is classified as under thai law. Secondly, it doesn't matter if he was 13, 14, 15, or 16 (Mac was 15 when he was cast) casting a minor in a role where he is going to be sexualized is gross and highly irresponsible.
"nothing reprehensible has happened in the series so far and nobody knows how the story will be realised."
We already have Mac, a sixteen year old filming romantic scenes with August, a 28 year old. That is a super uncomfortable dynamic to stomach. I mean one of the promo photos on this page is a photo of august with his shirt off looking suggestively at Mac. That isn't fucked up to y'all? Like i already said there are dozens of stories of child actors being exploited on set. We shouldn't just cross our fingers and hope for the best, this is a situation that is completely inappropriate for someone Mac's age. He was sexualized in many scenes of the trailer alone. God forbid something did/does happen to him, it could've 100% been prevented by a production with more integrity. Being in the industry myself, i will always advocate for children being protected on sets as I have seen time and time again them be exploited and abused by people who are only thinking of dollar signs.
"Are the makers selling the two as a "loving" ship in reality? Or shouldn't we rather criticise those who fetishise BL actors to such an extent that they can't tell reality from fiction? Wouldn't it make more sense to educate the fandom and promote a different fan culture? Is it the makers who have disgusting thoughts or the consumers?"
Well first of all we can do both, there's no need to make excuses or absolve these companies from the major part they play in enabling the shipping culture phenomenon. Thailand created this beast, and now many other actors have to deal with the consequences of that. We can't blame the fans entirely for reading into certain things when the companies profit off of this engagement and behavior. They play into it, they encourage it. Yes many fans take it too far, but this fanatic behavior is what makes them all rich. The suits making money could care less about how it may negatively effect these actors. Which is my entire point. Putting Mac in this situation where he is not only going to be sexualized as a minor, but be shipped irl with his co star who is TWENTY EIGHT is negligent at best. Even if the company doesn't encourage it, it's still going to happen. It's the nature of the industry.
"you can't accuse a 16-year-old or even a 27-year-old actor of things like paedophilia or perversion if he or they are just doing their job"
I never called anyone a pedophile. My criticism lies with the production. Do i personally think it's very weird that an almost 30 year old man signed on to do a romantic show with a minor? Well, yes! But that's a conversation for another day, and i certainly never called him a pedophile.
"Did they also criticise MSP in Ep.2 or Love by chance (and there's so much that's creepy)? Toxic plots are not criticised but rather loved. But the age difference of a couple of colleagues. Isn't that a double standard?"
Addicted is a highly mature novel that deals heavily with issues of sexuality, homophobia, and abuse. I'm sure this show has toned it down a lot but even just judging from the trailer many of these aspects have stayed the same. It would just simply be more appropriate with an older actor. Every other adaptation of this show (addicted, stay with me) has featured actors who are all adults. This director already has a pattern with casting minors in roles that aren't age appropriate (ohm in make it right, hit bite love) and it's worrying.
MSP is a very appropriate show in regards to the actors ages. Gemini and Fourth didn't even kiss onscreen in the show if my memory is right? the content barely required a pg 13 rating. Love by chance i do have a problem with as Perth was also very young. You have to remember that a lot of these shows came out when the BL industry wasn't nearly as popular and saturated as it is now. There are many things in BL from even 3 years ago that probably wouldn't fly today. My issue with this adaptation is not the "plot" being toxic or problematic. My issue is that a minor is being put in a position where he is being exploited in a show that is not appropriate for him.
Well I think the issue they have is not with the age gap specifically, it's the ages that make that gap. In the…
first of all this reply is all over the place so i don't really know where to start but sure i'll bite.
"since when acting became exploitation"
girl google is free dozens of actors have talked time and time again about how they have been exploited on sets or within the acting industry, especially as children. Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Brooke Shields, Jeanette Mccurdy (and these are just off the top of my head) etc etc there's an entire documentary called quiet on set that just came out which specifically talks about how children have been exploited through the hollywood machine. Acting as glamorous as it is, is still a job. Anyone can be exploited. It doesn't matter if they're "famous"
"Using terms like rape and pedophilia"
I didn't say anything about that. This is obviously not that.
My entire problem is people defending this casting choice using A, age of consent (which literally doesn't matter because they're not actually in a relationship, and even if they were wouldn't make it less unethical in my eyes) or B because it's fiction (as if real consequences have not come from many other situations like this on western sets) I work in the industry and i know how these sets and productions aren't always the safest environments especially for kids.
i honestly only started watching this after seeing clips of jewel and tan online (their chemistry together is crazy where has GMM been hiding them??) but it's a really charming show. i love how warmly the cinematography is, it really pulls you in and makes you feel like you're right there apart of the squad. As tired out as love triangles are i am enjoying the dynamic between white and lune. This is also my favorite role Dunk has been in thus far. It finally feels like he's playing a character versus just getting in front of a camera and reciting lines.
So much nonsense typed and even in Capital letters. The reason people are"whining" as you called it,isn't because…
you're both wrong actually, the problem is mac (a minor) being exploited and sexualized in a role that is just not appropriate for him. His partner couldve been 15, 16, 20, 25 and my concerns would be the same. August essentially being a 30 year old man is just icing on the exploitation cake bc now you have weirdos defending grooming and minors being in relationships with people ten years older than them all for the sake of a television show
So much nonsense typed and even in Capital letters. The reason people are"whining" as you called it,isn't because…
the problem isn't inherently the age gap (which don't get me wrong, is a very uncomfortable dynamic to watch) but the fact that a 16 year old is being put in a position to be sexualized not only on screen within the show, but outside of it by zealous fans who like to ship these actors as a pair.
defenses of "its just a show! they're acting!" doesn't work in the bl industry when the lines between fantasy. and fiction are blurred so intentionally. most rational people are aware they're not in a relationship, but we don't know what kind of effect blatant sexualization and shipping culture (much less one with an actor who is so much older) like this can have on a minor, we should want to protect children in the entertainment industry as much a possible and i have little faith in this production (judging by the director's past work) to do that
Well I think the issue they have is not with the age gap specifically, it's the ages that make that gap. In the…
"is this okay" no lmao its also weird to have a 16 year old ohm in a highly sexual role regardless of the scene partner. the partner in this case being almost 30 just adds another layer of ick to an already icky dynamic. both ohm and mac were exploited
I honestly don't think anything is gonna top Stay With Me.. from the acting to the cinematography.. it was top…
I think the cherry magic remake was excellent, and while the my love mix up one wasn’t nearly as good, I could still enjoy Geminifourth’s chemistry.
This one was pretty much DOA as soon as the cast and director were announced. You just cannot do an authentic remake of addicted with minors- the material from the novel is too mature. If you have to change almost everything about the source material to make it appropriate for kids, you should just cast more age appropriate actors.
Due to this the writing and acting suffer, and the chemistry between the leads is uncomfortable
the og school 2013 definitely wasn't this queer coded so i'm trying to figure out how intentional it is. i'm not one of those people who thinks men cant have really close platonic bonds, but their relationship here is more romantically charged than some of the actual bls airing right now. also chadjen wants them to be boyfriends too and i stand with him
