I finally finished it and it's not bad. I thought everything it's pretty good (actors were brilliant) but like a lot of Korean Bls, it's the length and the quality of plot that let it down. I don't know, I didn't get that satisfying feeling with this.
maybe the stress of the competition, the disappointment over losing it and the pressure and fear over having to…
Interesting I hadn't thought about that possibly being the reason he dropped to his knees. I'm a little hesitant to believe it because of scenes like Aek crying to Viphob that winning the competition is his only shot to chase his dreams but I think I'm just being super anal about details. Or maybe he said that cause he and Aue were estranged then and Aue was the person who gave him the opportunity. Also, it makes a lot of sense since the alleviation of his anxiety carried through from that scene to the coming out scene.
I dislike that the show didn't connect the gaps more but I haven't really felt the need to analyse a character as much as I have with Aek in any other BL I have watched. So maybe it is genius. Thanks for having this discussion with me. It was great hearing how you interpreted different scenes.
It was so fantastic. It is the first episode where the slow pacing and dialogue actually fit. I'm so glad we got…
The reconciliation was weird. I've been a bit disappointed with a lot of the show that I've now given a lot of leeway with any scenes that end up being decent. The plot still hasn't come together well. I have ?? about why Aek behaves the way he does all the time and why production chose to write certain scenes the way they did. Why did Aek drop to his knees and clasp his hands after seeing his mum when he lost the competition. That was super weird to me.
I think people are acting like this show is some deep new wave art piece, but it has a lot of flaws and plot holes which unfortunately makes it a meh show. Different doesn't always equate to good.

Thanks for giving some insight into his behaviour. I did assume pretty much all of it. I still think his apprehension (excluding him coming out which was well done and one of the best parts of the episodes) is sometimes more than the things he has been facing. One key moment is when Aek saw his mum after the competition and was upset about losing. He hugs her and then he gets to his knees and clasped his hands together sort of like he is begging for forgiveness. That was a weird moment for me because the guy got into the final with supposedly some of the best chefs in Thailand who have significantly more experience than him. So that reaction where he felt like he failed his mum didn't make any sense because Aek's mum has been shown to be caring, open, and approachable. So why is he behaving like that. We can theorise why he did but I think this should have been explored more. My theory is what you said: his mum wanted him to take a different pathway. Although this is shown, we aren't given enough scenes to really convey that this should really have affected him to this extent (unless I've completely forgotten). Also, I can't remember seeing a scene of Aek's mum struggling with the life of being a cook, for us to know he had that image in the back of his mind.
Also I find it interesting that Aek's flashback when he was younger to him telling his mum he wants to be a cook shows him being upbeat and extroverted. I wonder what things caused him to change.

Yes, initially I thought the same but throughout the whole series, the events Aek has faced and his reactions do not always equate. He's somehow close with his mum but he's not close enough to not completely breakdown about telling her things (eg. working as a cook) which is sort of strange. To me he feels very sheltered and innocent, but at the same time has been through some stuff. The fact this hasn't been alluded to much makes him less of a believable character for me.
I love this drama so much. It's funny, it's wholesome. It's really enjoyable to watch. Thank you subbers for doing the translations you are all awesome.
Was anyone confused why Aek was crying so much in this episode? I know dealing with the fact you are gay is difficult, but I don't know. It's almost like he's gone through some serious trauma during childhood and his attachment reliance on his mum although lovely to see, made me feel like he was a child. Maybe that's part of his character.
It was so fantastic. It is the first episode where the slow pacing and dialogue actually fit. I'm so glad we got closure for a lot of characters. Definitely an emotional episode. Aek finally talking to his mum about Aue was well done. It was subtle but still impactful. I'm also glad that we got to see quite a bit of growth from Aek in this episode.
Unfortunately I still have a problem with the conflict that was brought up in the previous episodes and how it was resolved in this one. Mainly with the two villians Phob and Moo. It was weird how they got introduced as these big plot changing characters and then after the comp they just kind of fizzled away. It was as if the preceding conflict didn't happen, but this show has completely thrown out what I should expect from a BL.
So, like a few others here, notably solipsism5, rahab75 and vixenbynight72, I am enjoying this series and most…
I remember checking out the director and noting his Swedish-Thai background but I didn't know the style of deliver and filming was common in Swedish film/tv production. I did think his background did influence it and I've been trying to understand the direction of this show.
Hopefully we get a behind the scenes, because I want to gain insight into the direction Bigander was aiming for with this show and hear his original vision. I still have issues with this show but from what I think he was trying to do, the art form is super difficult to execute well.
I mean, did anyone else get super creep vibes from Aue when he went to see Aek and backed him in to his room by…
Yes!!! I'm now expecting the rest of the episode to be that Aue kipnaps Aek and takes him to this remote cabin where he keeps him locked away for the rest of his life.
The pace is slow, but I believe that's something that the director wanted to set for the series. I have no problem…
This show has taken a really good premise, the one you described and has executed it so poorly it's almost criminal. I made a list of what is good and bad about the show.
What is a good: - The shots of food - Camera work
What is bad: - Stiff acting, that lacks emotion (by some of the actors). - Dialogue is awkward, unnatural, and stiff at times. - Characters that behave and make decisions that don't make any sense. (A major issue for me) - A storyline which lacks any substance but at the same time lacks clarity. - Most scenes are used ineffectively and are sometimes strange.
So you can see it's not the lack of sex scenes or it being challenging to understand (as if it's some Moby Dick) that people are commenting the way they are. It's the fact it took quite a unique premise in the BL world and executed it so poorly. But I will keep watching, only 3 more episodes to go. I come every week hoping it will get better.
Even with playing it at 2x speed I got three episodes behind LOL. Still sticking with it for Nuna.
I love Nuna so much. The actress is so great. Her facial expressions just sitting on the chair with her ex-lover trying to keep it together and not break was just done so well. I could feel everything the character was feeling!
I still do not understand Aek's behaviour and response to Aue. I was hoping Ep 9 will give me answers but no to…
There was a scene where Aek confesses/hints to Viphob that he knows the feelings he has for Aue, and he can't stop deceiving himself. It was super strange that he opened up to Viphob with this and not his friend.
Why was he at Viphob's house? Stupidity? The plot is dumb and is really not coming together. The behaviour of all the characters are off and I'm a little confused why the director was allowed to do the writing for the show.
