I get that but in Oath of Love there was way way more and it all made it to screen. Sigh. I guess luck of the draw + censorship + editing floor. Ah well.
I'm going to be petty (not ashamed) but where are all my kiss scenes at? Like for realz? So much BTS and 15% has made it to the screen. And now we're at the home stretch. I enjoyed the beating. I know, I'm a sadist. But I can understand Sang Yan's anger. It's a time honoured way to resolve differences between bros. Beat the shit out of each other. Personal opinion but would have been more satisfying if he just punched DJ's lights out and then made him apply ointment to his bruised knuckles! HAHAHAHHAHAH. Hello insult meet injury!
A sweet, gentle drama with an undemanding storyline, which's part of its charm. A story of friendships, love, but mostly about being our best selves in our relationships (familial and other). It's nice to see a not-tsundere hero. He's introverted, introspective, gentle and diligent. It's a combo you don't get to see too often. She's cute, clever and determined with a generous spirit. And the wider circle of friends is more of the same. It was really enjoyable to watch them all actively pursue happiness. And that's my key takeaway here: the pursuit of happiness is a commitment that is both joyful and effortful (but you don't mind the latter).! Easily top 10 youth drama of 2023 so far. ππ½ππ½
A sweet, fluff drama. I'm enjoying the friendships and relationships among the group. Such a green flag relationship. And oddly enough, it's quite mature and relies on open communication between the leads, which is so nice to watch.
Hahahahha! The whole convo about the guy sounds like a jerk...and then hearing look in the mirror! Hahahahahahhahah. It's one of faves from the book and they did it so well. :) Also the epilogue for 13. It was funnier and as awk as could be but that somehow made it sweet. I wonder how much of their expressions were them trying not to break character and laugh!
The pace has picked up! Still faithful the adaptation. I liked his portrayal of how he perceives her is changing a little, or at the very least, is not as cemented as before. The bathroom scene was good too. He did quite a lot with his hands and expressions to indicate how frustrated and angry he felt -- the snapping off the watch band, the pressure on the faucet and the splashing. ππ½ across the board. The timing and aggressiveness of her reaction was pitch perfect. All of a sudden I saw that prideful and headstrong girl from middle-school who won't take offense/injury lying down.
It had promise and was doing reasonably well until that extraordinarily poorly thought out conclusion. Forced happy families and forgiveness left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. It was in colossally poor taste.
It's amusing, in the book, the translation I read. she refers to him as the old, fox spirit man and CZY really has that oddly feline, slyly sexy quality to him in this drama. I can completely understand how he had a line of admirers, and he is smart, charming, and a good conversationalist all of which plus that face and voice exponentially increases his sexiness! π€
Man, I always forget what a good actor CYZ is! His micro-expressions, vocal modulation/inflection, and his eyes -- especially in this most recent episode are very good. You didn't know a man could say so much without saying anything but just looking at you at different times. Zhao Lusi's crying is on-point. She makes your heartbreak like a little wounded animal. The chemistry, the production and the OST are all solid. Full marks, and I do mean, full marks to the adaptation. It is incredibly faithful to the source material (without dragging) and catches the emotional beats very well! I was worried it would be draggy like Road Home (I loved the novel, the drama was so-so. Jing Boran was brilliant as the archetypal heroic man.). Yeah, full marks all around.
Well, colour me surprised. C-dramas typically don't really address bad parenting properly. But the younger brother is written very sensitively. I liked how he was portrayed and the things he had to see. A pretty nuanced interpretation. Otherwise, it's so easy to make the preferred one rotten. As for the parents...well, my lips are zipped.
My man Liu Xue Yi looks virtually unrecognisable. :( I was hoping he'd be hot like the contemporary drama he was in -- but no go. I don't know if it's the hair and makeup, or if he's lost weight on his face, or been under the knife, or whatever else but his face doesn't look the same. :( But, interesting drama overall. It's fast paced like whoah. MIL is excellent. Such a pleasant change. And the 2 leads are charming. But it's Bai Jing Ting who is killing it in all his scenes. Such a great actor with physical comedy.
Not to mention, I really did enjoy him and the 2FL more than the ML and FL. He was written as funny and a complete nerd with a surprising layer of intensity. Since I liked his performance I was hoping that he would appear in something else. For a drama of this category it's pretty decent. Production quality is reasonably good. And Youkou hasn't messed with the colour palette etc. ππ½ so far. :)
