My hope is that these shows can change the culture and society and help actual gay people have equal rights. All these shows are doing their part in that fight.

They vary greatly with how good they are. History 2: crossing the line is great. History 3: Make our days count is a really good story, but prepare for heartbreak. History 4: Close to you is enjoyable, but one of the couples is problematic. Hope this helps.
I do think the chemistry can be off in some of the Korean BL’s, but what they are really trying to do is show the love and emotions of male couples to a conservative country. They make the point that gay couples love the same way hetero couples do. Win the people’s hearts with the romance and change their minds about gay people. It’s wonderful to see Korea and Japan starting to realize the popularity of these shows.

100% agree with you. The courage they all have for making these series is wonderful to see. These shows are obviously becoming more popular and that is how they will slowly change the culture in their country. They are first telling stories of love between men which is more important. They will pave the way to more real depictions. We’ve seen it already with the difference between season 1 & 2 of To My Star and Semantic Error. You can also see it happening in Japanese BL’s. And personally I’d rather see these shows than some of the crap Thai shows with more explicit content, especially when it’s badly done.

Though I guess that fits in with the whole Kim/Chay underaged and Vegas/Pete abduction torture thing. Wow, it’s really a messed up show if cousins having consensual sex is the least objectionable plot line.
And personally I’d rather see these shows than some of the crap Thai shows with more explicit content, especially when it’s badly done.
