Would you have liked Butterflied Lover had the story continued the YLBL zombie theme instead of the romance theme. I believe that there was dissatisfaction that the wife is a secret super strength zombie was not followed.

As an aside, I think that the director and screenwriter mislead the viewers was why Pei had to die. The resentment against Pei and her desperate desire to save him made her the despotic leader that would have undone all of the good that she had done so far. Look at her grilling the midwife. Threatening to protect her on one hand and then on the other hand threatening to to kill her family. They make it look like he was protecting the identity of their births. But as long as Pei was around, as her consort or as the real Emperor, the kingdom would face serious turmoil. Just my thoughts on the ending. To tell the truth, unless he had a body swap, there is no way that he could have stayed by her side.
