The Chinese version paid more attention to the main couple's romance than the Taiwanese version. She has room in her heart for only one. For her whole life. The Taiwanese version was more gritty. Unexpectedly gritty.

You are right that they kept the 5th Prince/Emperor's martial arts on the sidelines.But more that martial arts. I love FLs with smarts.
So some minidramas with FLs with smarts. Qingchuasn's Veil of Vengeance (2025) by the same director for Dominion and Devotion. Re-watched the former many times more than the latter. Gender roles swapped, so the ML is more like the Fl. He plays the devoted lover.
Revenge of the Reborn Princess. (2024) Smart FL and an ML that stands by her side even if she doesn't know it. Re-watched it beaucoup times.
Fate's Crossing Nan & Ke (2024) I like Judy Qi, but have only watched this once.
Dream in the Mirror (2024) I re-watch the ending often.
I Don't Want to Be the Princess (2021) only on youtube. Funny and the kind of love that you can only envy.
Protect My King (2024) The last three episodes draw me back.
Does your appreciation of D & D stop at the end and not include the tiktok addendum?
I think that when the General discovers her identity, it might flow better.
I'm also watching The Wanted Detective because I'm a fan of Julia Xiang. But nothing matches up with Love in Time.

Thank you. From the drama, skimmed, He Yan joined the army as a recruit and rose to be a general and it was at that battle that she and her army/reinforcements arrived too late. Xiao Jue was at his side and blamed her for arriving too late. His father was made the fall guy and Xiao Jue was angered because He Rufei lied and blamed his Father. He struck at him with his sword and apparently for the first time saw his face. So, much of her skills, like horsemanship came after they separated. But when he saw the new recruit, He Yan post cliff fall, he recognized that He Yan was capable and was hiding his abilities. What I had presumed was the martial arts training at the academy would allow him to recognize her techniques. How she moved and the way she carried herself.
I was thinking that had he recognized her as a recruit, it would bring up questions in his mind who was the original masked general. By ep. 4, he has realized that this He Yan was a woman.

Possibly it is how the rebirth is achieved. What sparked the ban were high school girls drowning themselves saying they want to find love in the past. In Blossom she finds a notebook that allows her to be reborn as a very young girl.

At least in the past few years drama had got around the ban by making it a dream or something like that. Mini-dramas can get away with it. Revenge of the Reborn Princess (2024) Had a jade pendant allowing a reset. Ancient Love Poetry (2023) Had the hero going back to the past, Blossom (2024) was a major drama that had the FL being reborn.

Good points. But they should have written him quicker on the uptake when he met recruit He Yan. They could have had some fun with them as youths. Him fighting mixed feelings yet becoming very fast friends

Dominion and Devotion. Actually she knew martial arts. She briefly fought off the Third Prince in ep. 1 and she killed that assassin before she was told to protect her aunt. Enjoyed that. I'm enjoying this, too.

Not bad. But He Yan had already worked her way up to being a General. Martial skills and leadership should be second nature, even if she is trying to hide it. And Xiao Jue should have been able to feel that He Rufei just wasn't the He Yan that he grew up with, trained together with and fought together with. He Yan seems to be the girly type that we've often seen before while pretending to be a man.

The writers and characters aren't working at peak efficiency. Zhong was followed yet Beiming, Xumen and Feng, that are supposed to be in hiding are shot in plain view on the second story balcony, because it looks nice, I guess. When the plot demands it Zhuge is neck and neck, but when not, he is out of sight and out of mind. Better than being shown as clueless, he should have figured out Beiming's role in the investigations and stood back letting him Xumen and the others do the heavy lifting.. Perhaps jumping in to steal the credit.The core three are Beiming, Xueman and Dr. Feng, with Huo Dairong left out when she could have been included and Tong Shuang mostly being absent. I guess no sense paying them just to have them standing around.

Xueman may suspect that the cure may not be permanent. She noticed him tugging the sleeve over his right hand.
