I totally agree. Barbara Yung was the best Huang Rong ever. Although Aerial Lin came pretty close, Barbara Yung is in a league of her own.

I haven't read the book, but I will definitely come back to you after the drama starts airing to seek your opinion on how Luo Yunxi did in his role and if he played the perfect Shizun just like in the book. I'm so crazy about Luo Yunxi that he could be doing a crappy job and I'd still watch him dazed and totally in awe. I love him. LOL.

Huang Rong has a supporting role in the sequel novel - The Return of The Condor Heroes. While I would not call her "evil", she is prejudiced against Yang Guo, is responsible for the split of Yang Guo and Xiaolongnü and also is overprotective and spoils her daughter Guo Fu. But no, she is not evil. She is the main lead in the Legend of the Condor heroes and is an amazing lead, in my opinion totally overshadows the male lead. I'm not a fan of Zhou Xun's Huang Rong. I prefer Barbara Yung from 1983 and Aerial Lin from the 2008 version. Both were much better than Zhou Xun.

Excellent points and my gosh yes, that overacting and over the top melodramatic acting can be such a huge turn off.
