Is this series based on a novel? Anyone know? If so, is it the brother, Khit, that had the father killed? You already get the vibe that he had something to do with it. But, it's much too early to tell.

Agreed! Nicely stated. I, too liked the "mature feel" it had. GMMTV has dominated the BL genre over the past 5+ years (and they're still going strong). With them you, get some silly series like (Enchante, Tonhon Chonlatee, and Cause You're My Boy) on one end, some really good series like (Not Me. Bad Buddy, and Tale of 1000 Stars) on the other end, and a lot of "okay" series in the middle like (Together We Me, Fish Upon the Sky, Cupid's Last Wish, etc.). And. most the GMMTV shows start out pretty entertaining. So, I'm curious to what's in store for this series....

Touche. I stand corrected. But, as one who also has been eaten tripe, along with chittlins, neck bones, hog maug, snails, and even cow tongues. Again, many presumptions made without information. Many of us have heard the same BS explanations from those who presume Asiatic cultures are the only cultures discriminated against. But, that is a conversation for another day. Wow! Thanks for the interesting commentary. I'm not sure if I agree with much of it. However, it seems to represent a fairly strong opinion, and I can accept that. My thinking the series is trash represents another opinion and I hope it can also be accepted. Now, as for some of the other "presumptive" statements made in the commentary, "most people want to see how bad it is," "if you went into it with 1/2 brain cell, you'll hate it as you do," or "that's on you to lump all BL to be one dimensional..." etc. seems to also be one-dimensional and presumes much that was neither stated nor inferred. But, again to each his own.
This lakorn was actually pretty good for a Thai series. Yeah, it had its share of overacting, overdramatization, and silliness. But, that's what we've come to expect from lakorns, especially Thai lakorns. When it comes to "period" storyline lakorns, the Taiwanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese cultures seem to produce far better series than the Thais, but this was a great effort.
Many posters did not like Madam Li and Jiu. I don't get it, IMO, they made this lakorn. Those two characters provided at least 50% of the drama and action in the series. They definitely stole the spotlight from the main BL couple and secondary non-BL couple. How many people have a mom and a handmaiden with skills such as they? Wow! Go woman power! LOL!
If I had to rate this series, I'd have no problem giving it an 8. Because, like a traditional "soap opera" the series kept you coming back, even though the story dragged a bit now and then. Also, I think many forgot that this was a Thai "period" series, set at a time when there was no such thing as "lgbtq+." Although there were a couple of times the word "gay" was uttered when that word had not come into common use to describe lgbtq+ folks just yet (remember, the series is set in the late 1930s). HeHeHe!
I'm totally shocked and dismayed that sooooo many actually like this train wreck of a series. But, then again, to each his own. But, for me, I like taking "out the trash," and "not just watching it." LOL!
Normally, I would take the time to write a proper review. But, I really don't have the time. So I will attempt to be brief. This series had a few good points and quite a few bad points all rolled into one series. This series had sex and sweet moments, racing, and students who actually do work, thrown in with episodes of stalking, manipulation, noncom, attempted sexual assault and past sexual assault, etc. The tropes were so rampant in this series that it could make your eyes spin. Past sexual trauma was glossed over like it meant nothing to the story (so why include it)? The pacing and plot past the first episode eluded me, but I still watched it (although I might have skipped through to the end rather quickly on several eps,). However, I made sure to rewatch the Payu/Rain sex scenes quite often. LMBO!
But, if you don't mind any of what was said in the previous statement, then the series was "just ok." Nothing big, especially for a Mame story. As with many of Mame's stories, there seems to be a "cuteness" factor in the main couples, and that was apparent here as well. That's ok, too. At least we had something (actually someone) to distract us while we watched this m*ss. And finally, it is a hope that one day Mame may actually write about a BL relationship that attempts to portray BL relationships a little more realistically, But, then again, she might lose some of her fan bases. LMBO!!!
With that being said, I actually liked quite a few parts of the series, and I would rate those parts (acting, plot, etc. altogether) an 8. There were quite a few parts that I disliked, and I would rate the disliked parts 4.5 - 5, which would give an overall average of 6.5 - 7 as a rating for the entire series, placing it in the area of "a hair above average."
This is my review and I'm sticking to it. LMFAO!!!!!

Well, unfortunately, that's exactly how this series is heading. You can either stay on board and enjoy the ride to "Tropeville" or you can get off at the next stop. The choice is yours. LOL
