Binged the first 15 episodes on Viki because why not. Cant believe this is Zhang Ziyi 1st intro to TV. She's doing a great job so I don't understand the flack that she shouldn't be acting/portraying a 16 yr old since there are plenty of dramas where older actors portray much younger characters too. I like that Awu don't have much knowledge of the outside world because she's sheltered/ignorant and gradually seeing how the world works gradually. Xiao Qi is a really great character. He's everything every male character should be, specifically in regards to their mannerism/treatment towards the main female character/significant other. He's really partner material. Zhou Zi Wei portrays XQ as a stoic/harderned character well but also someone who's super patient, calm, and kind. ZZW was awesome in Longest day in Chang'an where he played a villain. SUPER charismatic. Great acting w/ his eyes. Lots of tenacity. He also has a great built/physique for a general too. The way XQ looks Awu makes me grin ear to ear.
My personal nitpicks so far is how certain scenes are a bit over the top and silly. I'm not sure how women usually go about their daily lives but if your a princess consort, wouldn't you wear a head cover so that enemies wont target you so easily if they want to murder you? Awu was walking around like an open target lol. Also, Awu is put in these awful situation where she's getting physically assaulted/kidnapped/restrained. It was a bit too much, especially with her scenes with Helan. Why does Awu maidservant suddenly have a thing for 3rd prince. That came out of nowhere. At least allude to it in the beginning. It was like a whiplash 180* change of character her being in love with the prince. She 's so sleazy ;p. Helan being alive while having his hand cut off & plunging 6oft into water is unrealistic. I prefer if Helan just died lol. Why would you want to save a kidnapper and attempted rapist who hurt your wife even if for political reasons? :x
I like the two main characters but I understand where the criticism from the Chinese viewers comes from when they say the show comes off as shallow (things happening to seamlessly without build up-overt exposition/lacking nuance/subtlety). As of right now, Awu and XQ lack depth. They read as too (unbelievably) good-natured. I do like their interactions/partnership because I really did NOT want her to be with the 3rd prince. I am looking forward to Awu's character development because I'm tired seeing characters emphasize her beauty (Zhang Ziyi is super gorgeous in here btw) when she is more than that. The story is alright so far, the usual palace politics. The cast is good although I find some of the actors lacking. ZZY and ZZW really makes the show. The action sequences are good and the directing gets better as it goes. The costumes are AMAZING! Music score can either make or break a show. The music is fine here. It isn't distinct enough. I do like the music piece when XQ comforts Awu for the first time when he kneeled and wiped her tears. Can you imagine if Roc Chen did the music score? He can elevate any show even if it's garbage lol. I don't think the show is remotely terrible or bad at all but I'm surprise with the low Douban score. Heck, Royal Nirvana and Rise of the Phoenix has a higher score (RN pissed me off so much lol). The male MC in Royal Nirvana is straight up trash lol.
The first half (ep.1-4) of the show was amazing! I like the episodic parts (easily rewatchable). The second half was my least favorite. The tension/tone in the first half sizzled away/lacked a bit in the second half (just not as memorable). I do think season 2 will have lot more potential if it plays out like it did in the first half of S1.
I never seen any of the stuff the ML actor has been in. Overall he did a good job, not the best. He doesn’t emote emotion that well with his eyes & his outbursts in dialogue might be a bit much but he did well in ep3, mostly because his cast mates were great. I cried watching the last bits of ep 3.
The music score is A-MA-ZING! The fact that it’s the same composer for Tokyo Ghoul, it really sets the tone/atmosphere for the series. The overall production, direction, stage design, cgi were fantastic. The cast of characters were likable too and not annoying.
Hopefully the alternative Japan world gets explored more and also character development. I do like the relationships the characters built along the way.
The teasers looks so charming & fun. Im not a fan Hwang Jung Eum but I think this role suits her acting style. Honestly, I could see Honey Lee in that role, she would be perfect for it. From watching the teasers, the show really gives off Along With the Gods kind of vibe.
Took me 2 years to finally watch this. The writer knows how to pull off subtley & nuance so well. The character development was so seamlessly well written. Also, the directing style & editing was so on point, if not brilliant. This show made me tear up so much lol. Its one of those shows that I wouldnt mind if it was longer. I understand now why so many people enjoyed it. It strays away from typical tropes & cliches too.
People arent 'haters' or 'nagging like little kids and so toxic' when they have legitimate criticism of the show.…
Thats why I say ignore those kinds of comments that has no weight to it. This is a soap opera tv show obviously, I know that. My comment about 'art is subjective' is that people are going to have a different opinion about the show whether you agree with it or not. Also I can see plenty fine why people like or hate the show.
But jisoo also didn't mind to record her own voice when seowoo clearly said she would give it to someone who is…
She agreed to it but JS didnt know it was Hawon in the first place. The thing is she's deceased now so the only people who have rights over that recording or any usage of it is her family. Even his friend told him that. I know that show illustrates what he is doing is not right so hopefully thats a point throughout or if its his way of healing that hell eventually learn theres other ways to heal that isnt dependant on her AI.
The fact he uses her voice is not presented by the narrative as sth ok, which is pointed out by several characters,…
I dont see it as an overreaction as people have pointed out the AI aspect is creepy, which is an opinion whether you agree with it or not. People can watch the show however they please. Im merely moreso questioning the writer's intent. Not necessarily the characters.
The fact he uses her voice is not presented by the narrative as sth ok, which is pointed out by several characters,…
His friend pointed out to HW what he is doing isnt right but his friend is still enabling HW by helping & moving the secret personal project forward by using JS's voice HW isnt legally allowed to. Her family is the only one who can approve. SW erased the recording but ultimately decides to help him with the AI project. Im just pointing out what HW is doing isnt right, ethically & legally. I understand why HW is doing the thing he is doing, since he seems like someone with an unhealthy attachment to JS & a finding a means/way to heal. Im curious to see how it plays out & wonder if the writer is using this to make a point later on as the story progresses & not make it seem like HW & SW blossoming relationship being put into motion by dead woman's AI voice is a cute thing or the only way to heal that is dependant on JS's AI.
HW using JS's voice recording, a dead person, without her parents or family's approval is a big no. Thats not an ethical or even a remotely good idea to do. I know he can not forget about her but obviously has some sort of unhealthy attachment. I hope the writing explores this part & not make SW & HW's relationship becoming closer to each other a cute thing because of the AI machine with JS's voice when its quite ennerving. I liked that SW erased the voice file because it was the RIGHT thing to do but now SW is sort of drawn to the idea. It seems like hes using this practice/project to create a device for medical puposes or even for depression as a healing/therapeutic tool? But using JS's voice without her party's consent is not a good look. It's way creepy & wrong. Assuming & hopefully this serves as a plot point later on. Curious to see how it all plays out.
So, what' s up with Song Mi Na? I don't understand why she's rude to the guy who was her sunbae and with who she…
She's wants him to take his new ability seriously. Like she said they dont have time to spoil a newbie. Another note, in the webtoon she supposed to be dead 7 months ago so alot has changed when she got her new ehanced body, but in the show its been only 2 months which is odd lol. Plus, shes his superior now since shes in charge to take care of him.
true... but I love how the ML find the FL intriguing... like he's quite fascinated with the way she thinks...…
And the scene in the cafe where HW & SW talked about unrequited love/romantic relationship. SW say love is too competitive & dont see fit to be in a relationship but HW says even a piece of that important person is enough to be in love for a long time lol. Like HW wants to belong in someone's heart while SW just wants to belong somewhere, thus she wants people to tell her to 'stay'. I like how lighthearted their interactions are.
I love how invested Seo Woo was into helping Ha Won and Ji Soo get together. Even before she learned that Dawn…
I know right. She just minds her own business. Not only that she's so thoughtful in her actions before doing anything. Like when she wasnt sure to record JS's voice because it seem unethical but asked JS permission if she could. She even said she shouldve kept to herself when she wanted JS & HW to meet because their story touched her heart lol. I liked her interactions with JS, especially their last conversation at the studio.
Just finished episode 1 and I love where it's going! It's a little different compared to the webtoon which makes…
Same here. I enjoyed the webtoon. I'll try not to compare the show & comic too much and watch it at face value lol. Hopefully all the twist & turns stays intact. I want to see how 2nd episode plays out.
I usually love OCN, but this was so over the top, just sci fi heaped on testosterone. So far it's one massively…
From someone who has read the webtoon, the flow & storytelling has a much more organic flow in the comic than the show so far. I believe they adapted 10 chapters lol in 1 ep. Although I would agree, dont expect complex characters lol. If you want character driven shows this one might not be for you. Its more along the line of action & sci fi aspect. Its more story driven although the webcomic does have much more depth/details. Everything is super condensed in the 1st ep & drastic character changes.
