I don't think the writer will go that way... agreed that it's too easy an explanation. LDS is clearly deranged because of everything he's been through, the grief of losing his family & the abuse that he's suffered from the police and the townspeople all these years. I think he is lucid too and knows what he's doing.
reading the comments here regarding the ending i'm glad i dropped this early on as i figured things would end this way. i knew the writers wouldn't commit to bong hwan/cheol jong romance. i can see why some people feel cheated with this ending, it just seems like a cop out.

Duoluo Continent was filmed in 2019 and has taken this long to air.... we'll be fortunate to see Sword Snow Stride air this year, no rumours of it airing soon so we might see it towards the end of the year if we're lucky.
