Putting the Webtoon and season 1 aside, I loved this for what was, they did a great job in adapting the story into something that could translate better as a drama and they had an incredible cast to back them, however did they really have to rush through certain things, just to keep the 8 episode format? They could have spent a LITTLE more time fleshing out a few of the conflicts/character arcs to at least 12 episodes, considering this is also where the webtoon ends - a.k.a, the "last one".
***For the non-webtoon readers, don't hold your breathe for a 3rd season - the webtoon writer himself said, he would LIKE to come back with more to the story, but only AFTER they had taken a good break from the 5 years of writing this one.
Wow, so Yin decides to date a younger man and then proceeds to make dating her EXTREMELY difficult for him, while she allows the old guy to do as he pleases whether she likes it or not... ??
Sorry, but how does this lack of logic work exactly? lol...
I see the comments about the FL and people being annoyed, and saying they shouldnβt have gotten back together etc, and although I agree, because it's something that drives the story, and they both had their flaws as characters, but the lack of communication from the FL annoyed me the most. While they were in a relationship, she continuously huffed, puffed and withheld information from him, and expected him to turn around and leave things behind for her... ?
Look, there are layers to this, and a lot of people (FL) going into relationships think there's a right way to do things and try to hold their relationships to those cookie cutter standards, which breeds failure in the relationship, but at lease attempt to communicate with your partner?? Mans didn't even know she had an operation let alone an actual injury hindering her career??? Was he supposed to smell that?? π
EDIT: I forgot to add that this BEHAVIOUR CONTINUES EVEN AFTER THEY GET BACK TOGETHER (and I'm not talking about her not being able to accept help) - she constantly expects things to be at her level regardless of where the other person might be. She needs to properly deal and grieve the loss of her piano career (something people don't acknowledge often in this world when people are forced to give up an art form due to injury). Anyways, at least she knew she was at fault.
Overall, it's not bad, it's easy to watch and it flows nicely.
Oh ,that last Ep was MESSSY... and I'm totally here for it! π
While everybody's picking sides, I'm just like, you know what, fair is fair. Yes, Peach shouldn't have lied, and yes, Shin needs to control his attitude and words that often hurt those around him, BUT, if you take another step back, not giving someone a reason as to why you should keep your relationship undercover doesn't exactly give a sense of security or stability, and for how short lived their happy stint was, instead of asking Peach what his priority was, Shin should have been asking himself the same question.
So, for me they're both to blame - reactions are everything, not that we counting score though π
While I totally respect your opinion of the drama and finding the characters more or less in the same light, but I think you might have missed the main theme of the drama itself. This is in no way me trying to be condescending or rude, I just thought you might find it interesting from a different perspective, but in your final paragraph you question the point of the drama and list some of the sub themes they included. You haven't mentioned the main theme though, where each and every character wore a "mask", whether due to a situation, greed, power, etc. I know a lot of people went into this drama expecting a kind of self acceptance story and that there should have been a bigger focus on the harsh K-beauty standards of society and how it effects people, but like you loosely mentioned and why it could have been a bit confusing, was because those sub themes were used to feed into the bigger theme of each of them wearing a mask at some point? Not that this will change your view on whether you enjoyed it or not, but it might help answer some of your questions and explain certain choices that were made in terms of character motive, plot, etc.
Wrote my fully review above. I tend to write more in a preview way without giving away content spoiler - to have…
I loved your review! π I'm still confused how people are genuinely upset that they watched an R-rated drama when it clearly states it, but I'm also confused by the recommendations on this page. Please add yours to counter balance things, otherwise we're going to have even more people getting upset with mismanaged expectations π
I enjoyed the first and the last parts, but it lost me in the middle a little, as in I struggled to get through the Episodes at one stage. Loved how everything was tied up in the end though!
"How did his fingerprint unlock Danβs car?" I was thinking this as well and had a good chuckle reading it in your review, but I see someone commented it's not actually a feature on the car π Oh well, glad I wasn't the only one to think this!!
For those who are saying they're feeling bad for enjoying this, please don't - everyone has their own personal taste and honestly there are some really good things to enjoy about this drama! However, for me it started off AMAZINGLY, but those plot holes and plot drivers honestly drove me insane. From an overbearing SL, the two mothers relationship suddenly fizzling out, the mysterious psycho trying to kill our FL, but "fails" to do so when they had the opportunity in Ep 15 right to the mother suddenly having cancer - everything feels out of place! It's like the writers tried their very best to see how many tropes they could fit in a drama regardless of whether it would work or not. I'm disappointed in this drama and watched right until now because they have an incredible cast, with amazing cinematography and costumes, etc, but the storyline really brings all of that down for me. It honestly feels like the writing was rushed and unfinished...
I REALLY enjoyed the first two eps! There's so much going on though, with the entire town being sus and the theories where the plot could possibly connect/go are killing me, does anyone have any thoughts/theories after those two eps? π
Even from what I've seen in this drama, he might be support role, but he is the main villain, like I don't actually understand how he is in such "high demand" because it's sickening. I feel bad for the people that have to work with him.
Right, so the first two episodes were kinda predictable in order to set the scene and mood for the rest of the…
A few questions I do have though because I do be unintentionally missing out on things:
1. How did framing the ML solve the director's initial problem with the funding of the secret hospital place? 2. How is the FL so vengeful against an organisation when she doesn't know what the audience does, i.e. that ML was framed and that the brother's heart went to classical music patient? 3. Also, WHO IS THE HECK IS CLASSICAL MUSIC PATIENT!!!? π
Right, so the first two episodes were kinda predictable in order to set the scene and mood for the rest of the drama. I'm looking forward to seeing where this drama will go in terms of introducing the SML and seeing what the ML brings to the table in terms of solving the case! π
Can they honestly just stop casting LKY, I put up with him in Again my life and it was really difficult to not be disgusted while watching, but since then, in two ongoing dramas I've started this past weekend, he has been cast as support roles... That's essentially FOUR dramas in 2022 alone since MBC lifted his ban last year - it's only JUNE! How is he still getting hired and cast??!
(If you don't know, go and check his page, and in the comments for a link to an article for a brief version of what he did and why he was initially "banned" from the industry).
