I get what you're saying, I have dropped almost all Japanese BLs that I try to watch in the past and I've never…
Thank you for the recommendation, but that show seems very dark which is not my taste. It goes back to Japan not finding a balance between gritty and lukewarm. For reference, my all time favorite BL is Not Me. It's not too dark, and not too sickly sweet.

At least with Thai BLs people seem more open to criticism. They accept that some of the popular well loved shows are fairly trash. Japanese BLs are worshipped and treated as above others. "Japanese BLs hit different" is a comment I see frequently. Maybe things are changing, I see people in this comment section are not all praising this show. Not that I think it's terrible, but it's not the best thing I've ever seen either. I think it lost its way, which makes me sad because it had such potential.

The last couple episodes have been misses for me, unfortunately. The show had such a good foundation, so I'm pretty disappointed. I understand what it's trying to do, to show college students struggling to find their path, make hard decisions, etc. But the tone has gotten soooo gloomy. I feel like Taichi's spirit is totally crushed, and his upbeat attitude was a huge reason that I liked the show at first. Japanese BLs tend to be like this. It's as though they're afraid to portray happiness. (unless it's overexaggerated)

I do like some Japanese BLs, but I feel like a lot of them are extremely overrated. People think that if a show is pensive, moody, or understated, that it equals good quality. This show started off quite well imo, but the last few episodes haven't moved the plot or character development at all.

Wow, I'm glad I watched the first episode before reading the comments. Is it the deepest, most complicated BL? No, of course not. It's a bit corny at times but I like what I've seen so far. A bit of action, comedy, and family bonds. If anyone's on the fence to watch it or not, I'd say to give it a try.

If some random stranger applied to the college I went to because I talked to them one time, I'd run screaming. This is my fault because the description clearly says the plot, but I somehow thought it would make sense in the show. Taishin doesn't come across as sweet to me, he seems like a stalker. Just because he's quiet doesn't make it less weird. Okay, I just wanted to get that off my chest, I'll see myself out.

I know everyone's hating on this at the moment, which I find amusing. "It's slow!" Sorry they didn't have sex in the first episode. Go back to Pit Babe, or whatever you like. "The medical parts aren't accurate!" Okay, and? It's a BL, calm down. The acting and writing are not worse than other BLs. The story is moving slowly, but I'm really enjoying the flashbacks, and seeing the strain of a highschooler having a crush on another boy, but that boy likes a girl. Maybe the ending will suck, but right now the show is fine. The hate is not warranted, in my opinion. This show has a very different vibe than the more action oriented or sexy BLs that are trending currently.

Review Cherry Magic
Thank you! I keep seeing people say they like it better than the original, and I don't understand why? The characters were so awkward, the product placement was out of control, and they took away the ace character. I loved that about the original, to have someone who just wasn't interested in romantic relationships.

So nobody has an issue with the tracker? Also, yes I know this is not real, but a dom/sub relationship should be understood by both parties, and I feel very uncomfy with the way this is being portrayed. I was happy with the direction things were going, there was some effort towards communication, but episode six really took about five steps backward. I know this is an unpopular opinion, since everyone gives it glowing reviews but... I guess I draw the line with stalking.
