The playground scene really had me bawling. As someone who once struggled with my physical appearance, I remember constantly imagining myself living the life of someone beautiful. "Would I have been more confident? Maybe I'd have requited crushes?" "I'm probably less awkward." But the real question here is "What is really beautiful?" Who on earth set those beauty standards anyway? Maybe beauty is just a mindset. Once you stopped caring about other's opinion on your looks, you'll eventually learn to love yourself, flaws, and all.
But this is wat makes me happy those old memories of wattapad
It does! School-themed dramas were my favorite. But as we age, our interests change haha. So although I found some scenes cringey, I enjoyed it coz it reminded me of the past.

Not that I've seen the exact same story but the plot devices and characters are just the same. Accidental-falling-in-your-arms, i-will-black-mail-you-coz-i-know-your-secret, cold but softie inside male leads, ditsy female leads. It's the same formula. Come to think of it, it's not just wattpad but also shoujo mangas and 2009-2014 Kdramas.
While some scenes made me cringe as heck (it felt like I'm reading a Wattpad story back in 10th grade lol), I'd say I'm quite enjoying the drama. It's just freakin hilarious and entertaining. I'm officially aboard.
They can just follow 'Cheese in the trap' drama & show total transformation of the ML in the final ep. But I can't…
I honestly didn't like CITT ending lol. They did the male lead dirty. He had lesser screen time towards the end and they tried so hard to build up SL's character which is why it felt misplaced, hence I never had SLS despite the flaws of ML.
I do agree that HJP had an amazing character backdrop. Heck, he was the star of the first episode. But sadly, that was it. His screen time with Dal Mi felt one-sided imo :( (It was like he was meant to be the sad, unappreciated second lead. I'd say that Do San's character is good as well. Yes, he's immature. Yes, a such a geek and a dork. But something about how he cares for Dal Mi is endearing as well. Maybe it's a matter of preferences. Or maybe, there's really a problem with the writing, idk.
I loved Hirunaka and I'll watch Dream high eventually. But I'm afraid now days kdramas has been more about popularity…
Yes, dream high's a gem. And since it had the same writer as Start Up, I thought it would have a similar theme--personal growth with a sprinkle of romance. You're right that the love triangle has overshadowed the potential of the plot. They even wasted In Jae's character. I wish she had more screen time and had more character depth but she's done nothing but to just antagonize fl.
I'm sorry for dragging other show/content here but have you guys read Hirunaka no Ryuusei? It also defied some typical writing of male leads. Shishio was introduced first and was also the female lead's first love. Mamura was introduced later on as a classmate who falls for FL as well. Until the very last chapter, it was not clear at all who'm she'll choose coz both had their significant connections/screen time with the female lead. But (SPOILER ALERT) she ended up with Mamura eventually (yay!). Dream High also used the same formula (or at least from what I remember coz I watched that in high school). Taecyeon was the childhood friend and he and FL shared a lot of struggles. They even had the first kiss in the show lol. Samdong was the country bumpkin that liked FL from the start. The writing felt like he was the 3rd wheel but lo and behold she ended up with FL.
Honestly, I find it refreshing (and conflicting) when writers tweak typical unwritten dramaverse rules on who's the female/male lead. For start up, I'm convinced that Do San is the male lead but the passionate fans of HJP (I think that there's more of them than NDS) kinda makes me think otherwise. Maybe there will be a plot twist in the end. But if they want that to happen, the writers better use the last 6 episodes to build up JP and DM relationship.
Some HJP fans are aggressive (and overly biased, if I may add), probably because they're somehow on the losing…
Yes, thank you for the insight. But I could tell which one's a constructive criticism versus a baseless trashtalk. I've been conversing with you for a while now and I have agreed with your criticisms on NDS.

Ah yes. I could feel the frustration... I lowkey hope that the writers play an uno reverse card and just let SDM be single in the end HAHA. Let's have them all be successful individually and forget about the ships.
Yes 3-4 year time skip is happening, not sure which episode though. There lays the difference in the maturity level…
Yes, I could see NDS's immaturity. There are bits and pieces of him that I really like but he definitely has a lot of growing up to do. Definitely rooting for him! Hmmn... now I'm really curious what's Yong San's plan then. I hope it turns out to be just a misunderstanding.

I respect your opinion. Upon reviewing my comment, it does sound quite shady, I apologize. But it's not my intention to stir hate. I just got fed up with all the comments I've read trashing Do San just to lift HJP up (and of course, vice versa). Both Do San and Ji Pyeong have their own strengths. I'm just used to having a second lead syndrome and STILL actually see the potential of the actual male lead. (If not, I just drop the drama especially if I'm only watching for the romance)

Spot on! Shipwars are not new but pitting the characters with each other is quite surprising. Both characters are flawed and complex so I'm not sure why people are so SOOO passionate in taking sides. My gut tells me that it's because of the actors involved.
I really relate to Do San and Dal Mi's struggle with failing to measure up. DM saying that she's like walking in a tightrope hits close to home. My heart ached when Do San said his dream was a person. I was like "no honey." haha. I get that he really likes DM but he's got to pick himself up for himself coz if he loses DM, then what would become of him? :/ Which is why I feel skeptical with him accepting Alex's offer. He's basically abandoning his team for a 3-year-gig, right? Will there be a time leapt?
Also, HJP's the object of Yong San's revenge! I was not that surprised considering how he was really hard on his words. Will Yong San sabotage his team coz he knows HJP's object of affection is DM and that's one way to get even? We have 6 more episodes to go, hoping for more character growth.

Which why I said "some". It's a mere observation. If that's not you, then it's not you, why so salty? :( I have not commented about NDS fans coz I was replying to OP's concern on death threats.
It's a little a funny how people can be so obsessed with one character and they act as if they exist in real life. To the point of attacking the writers for writing this and not writing that. Is hating on the male lead the norm now? I mean, we all have preferences but to the point of dragging him ALL THE FREAKIN TIME? It's my first time to experience this kind of of shipwar lol I remember having a bad SLS with Reply 1994 so I dropped it altogether but heck, I don't remember talking shit about the male lead.
I read some rumors that the writer is getting death treats, because HJP isnt getting Dal Mi, I hope this isn't…
Some HJP fans are aggressive (and overly biased, if I may add), probably because they're somehow on the losing side. Yup, I said it, don't attack me. It' s just that with the current direction of the story, Dal Mi's gonna end up with Do San.
