I just shared my opinion on this drama and said this genre is a hit or miss for me. I have watched a few that I really liked but most of them were a miss for me, including this one.
Fantasy/Wuxia dramas are a hit or miss for me. I have liked quite a few of them, some even made it to my list of favorite dramas (like The Starry Love, Till the End of the Moon, Moonlight Mystique, just to name a few ) but some I have skipped scenes like crazy only to reach the end.
This one unfortunately was more of a miss than a hit for me. I kinda liked the 3 lifetime arc thing but we only get to that part around episode 26 out of 40 episodes. For more than half of the drama I found myself wanting to drop it several times. I am not giving it a low rating just because of those last 15 episodes but it does not change the fact that it had more bad episodes than good ones so I cannot give it a high rating either.
I think there were a few things that disappointed me: - the storytelling was not the best, I was bored too often; - there were too many arcs and supporting characters; - some of the demons were cringy; - at some point the ML barely appears for several episodes; - and although I loved Seven Tan as the FL on some other dramas (mostly modern day dramas like Flight to You or Go Ahead), I just don't think she was the right pick for this particular role. With time I got used to it but I still wanted to share it as one of the things that initially bothered me.
This is just my opinion. If you think the drama was perfect and want to give it a 10, go ahead, I'm not stopping you. Just sharing my thoughts right after finishing it.
FL is such a narcissist. I cant stand this type of character. I hope she learns how to humble herself,
I have not started watching yet but from the summary it seems like this is a remake of whats wrong with secretary kim with the roles reversed. If that is the case, then the FL being a narcissist is expected as in the original he would always be looking at his reflection in the mirror and think everything is about him....AURA.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
At first I did not think you were talking about me because what you were saying did not seem to be about me but there was no comment above mine (because obviously I checked your reply by clicking on the notification and not by searching the drama and going to the page) so your reply was below my comment, you kept saying "you" like what you were saying was directed to me and you also never mentioned the other comment up until recently so I had no way of knowing the last half of you reply was not directed to me but someone else.
There’s literally a sign on top of his head saying, anything Yang or He can do, I can do worse !!!
Yup. There was this one episode that he was looking at He probaby knowing he was the one behind everything and when Wen turns back to talk to him he has an evil face, even Wen felt it was off....a few seconds later he has his nice smiling face again...creepy.
At first I was a bit disappointed because there were so many characters and so many scheming sisters that I thought I would be really annoyed. The reverse harem also became boring really fast. I was wondering if this drama would be just about scheming jealous sisters, greedy obsessive man and tea.
BUT it turns out that the FL is always one step ahead, even the ML being so smart, perceptive and having experience investigating cases, he just isn't a match for her, much less her jealous sisters. I love smart and strong female leads. I also like how you cannot trust any of the husband candidates.
I am specially wary of the Yan dude. I feel like he is not as nice as he is trying to come across and every advice he gives Wen feels like something he is telling himself, like he is fighting his own inner demon. I feel like he either is completely obsessed with the FL and will eventually let it overcome him or he has some past hatred against her or the Rong family. Idk, maybe I am just suspicious of everyone due to my many years of drama watching but I feel like he has yet to reveal his true colors and the reason why he is even still staying at the Rong's house.
Yes, I just found out. Thank you for letting me know.
Idk what happened but it took almost a month for the page to finally be added, I think the drama finished airing about 2 weeks ago and I tried to add the page when it had just started airing.
A bunch of more recent short dramas, even the ones that are only 2 mins per episode kept being added and The Princess Decree just kept being ignored. ^^'
agree with you. But the worst are the k-dramas produced bye Disney.
Yes, there are still good kdramas that air once in a while, they are just not as many as they used to be. In a entire year you will get like maybe 5 good kdramas. I have been watching mostly cdramas since this started to happen but I still watch kdramas in hopes of finding that one that stands out from the rest. I guess I will have to check Pro Bono now.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
Then it was a misunderstanding. When someone replies to a comment your comment shows on the top so for me there was no comment above mine. When you mentioned the above comment I could only think you were talking about mine and since you kept saying "you" when talking about those fans, it made it seem you were including me in that group.
agree with you. But the worst are the k-dramas produced bye Disney.
True. I think I liked maybe 1 or 2 of the dramas produced by Disney and they still had flaws. Usually I am happy to see a kdrama is airing on a Korean network like tvN, SBS or MBC.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
Exactly my and chetelli's point. Everything you have said so far has nothing to do with my original comment. I did not trash the drama, did not give it a 1 star rating and did not even mention any actors. You are bringing your frustrations from other comments into the reply you left to mine even tho I have nothing do with it.
To put it into perspective, it would be the same as you walking down the road, someone makes you trip and fall and then as you get up you see me pass by and decide to punch me. Your anger and frustration is misplaced.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
I think chetelli's point is that your reply did not match my comment. I was only expressing my personal opinion about how I felt about the drama and how the quality of kdramas in general (not all of them obviously) has been going down since Netflix got involved.
There are some great kdramas on Netflix but for me seeing that a new kdrama is airing on Netflix is usually a red flag because they have a tendency to ruin anything they touch.
Can´t we all just enjoy dramas without turning this into a war? For me both haters and people who give dramas a 10 because of their favorite actor belong in the same bag, I do not identify with either of the 2. They are the reason MDL's ratings are not trustworthy anymore.
Let's just rate dramas for the plot, acting, production quality and overall enjoyment and stop making everything about the actors. And let's comment freely about how we felt about a drama without the comment section becoming a hateful place.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
Thank you.
I thought I was the only one that felt the reply was too much, almost attacking me when I did not even trash the drama, just said that I personally did not enjoy it. I did not even mention any actors and for some reason it just became about the actors and suddenly I'm a hater and a crazy kpop fan or something.
I watch dramas for the plot, the actors help but at the end of the day if the plot is not good I might not even finish watching much less give it a high rating just because of the cast.
Does this drama have mixed reactions ? Yeah, some love it for the fast pace while others hate it for not exploring…
I know nothing about the data, I left twitter (now X) a long time ago. I am basing my comment solely on other comments I read on this page.
Your reply to my comment does not match what I even spoke about aside from the first paragraph talking about the mixed reactions. I never mentioned the acting and when I talked about my favorite dramas, I did not even say which dramas, I did not mention any actors. For me the most important part of a drama is the plot, yes, the cast can also help carry a drama, but I have dropped dramas with a great cast because the writing was bad and I have given high ratings to dramas with unknown actors as the main leads because the plot was great.
I am not sure if you were just talking in general about kdrama fans but "🔝(The above comment)" part threw me off because I am by no means one of those people. I have been watching kdrama since 2010 and I do it solely for my enjoyment, I do not even bother to talk about dramas on social media or follow any actors. Yes, there are some actors that I like more than others because I see them more often and because they do a great job, but I am not a fan or hater of any particular one.
Again, maybe you were directing your frustration at kdrama fans in general but because you were replying to my comment and because of some of things you said it made it seem like I was a hater. ^^'
People are having mixed reactions, either trashing the drama or making excuses for why the comments are not all positive. Here are my 2 cents.
When I watch a drama I look for one of 2 things: a well written story or one that I can have fun watching (even if it is full of plot holes and dumb characters). This is why the best dramas I have watched are very different: some are thrillers, some are crime investigations, some are tragedies, some are your usual rom-com.
This drama and a lot of recent kdramas do not fit either of the criteria. Talking about Cashero, the writing was not great and I also did not have fun watching it. I started with no expectations and by the second episode I was already doing something else and having the drama on the background because I was losing interest.
In part it is a problem with Netflix. Since Netflix started to air kdramas, more and more kdramas feel less and less authentic, you know the ones we would watch back in 2010 that were just completely different from everything else we had watched until that point. And more and more kdramas feel more American rather than Korean, I mean, even the song at the end of the episodes is English.
So yeah, for people saying it is this generation of tik tokers and their lack of patience...in part you are right but there has also been a change in the kdrama world, an attempt to appeal to foreigners and this has resulted in a lot of kdramas losing its charm.
