Well, my first thought was honestly that this looked like a low-budget drama. For things that could have been easily filmed outside, like scenes on a roof, it was very noticeable that they were using a background screen. I know this is already common in many Chinese dramas, but this one was pretty bad at concealing it.
The actress playing the female lead also did not match the actor playing the male lead. It looked like a weird pairing and my guess is they chose her because they needed an actress that would actually be able to pull off a man’s character without being too obvious it is a woman dressing as a man. At least they were able to do that.
The story was promising and I can imagine several ways they could have used it to make a super interesting drama yet they did this with it and, at least for me, it did not work. I was able to stand the first few episodes and then I found myself skipping every scene that did not have the main leads.
The ending was not a surprise for me, but to be fair the Tragedy tag should be added up there (working on it) for those people like me who would probably stay away had they known how it was going to end.
Overall I felt I wasted my time watching this. It just had too many flaws for me to ignore them and the way a promising story turned out to be very boring and even frustrating made me feel like this was a disappointing drama.
I am sure someone else out there liked this (looking at the rating) and hope this does not have a rating of almost 8 just because the male lead is very good looking. XD
If you like food/cooking as much as me (I actually studied cooking for 3 years and it is one of my main hobbies) then you will think this drama is better than average BUT not amazing.
If for you food is simply a necessity and cooking is the way to make it tasty, then you will probably think this is an average drama, feel bored a lot of times while watching it and might even consider dropping it.
I think this could have definitely been better. The extension was not needed but I did not feel as bothered by the extra episodes as I have felt in other dramas that just seemed to get supper draggy in the last episodes. 12 episodes would actually be the right amount for this story and what added enough content for the extra episodes was the love triangle, which in my opinion would make the drama a lot better had it NOT been there. They could have just made the second male lead be her best friend without any romantic feelings between them and that would not only make the story more interesting and less painful but they would also be able to keep it shorter (the original 12 episodes).
I have to say other than the food/cooking and the romance, I also though this had plenty of funny moments. It was not a comedy but the female lead’s way of describing food after first tasting it and the weird/crazy manager provided many scenes that made me at least smirk.
The last episode was also pretty good. Did not feel as boring as I expected it to be (after all it was the last episode of a drama that was extended). Everything was wrapped up nicely and every character had it’s "ending".
I was quite surprised because I did not love it but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would so I gave it an 8. Does it deserve this rating? Maybe not but I gave it anyway just for the fact that I felt pretty entertained while watching it.
Again, liking food/cooking related stories a lot or not caring much about them can make it or break it for you. The concept of food/cooking is a HUGE part of the drama.
I really liked the first half but was quite disappointed with most of the last half. The first 8 episodes made me laugh, made me wonder what ridiculous situation would happen next and the romance although not as developed as in the second half, was still nice to watch.
The second half had moments I liked too but it was mostly drama, drama and drama and that made me feel overwhelmed. I did not mind the whole mysophobia thing being the center of the story, but I do agree that the story was missing something and that some elements that were shoved in the second half were not only unnecessary but also took the fun out of the drama.
In the end, a drama that could have been a 9, ended up being a 7.
Uff, I finished it, but I kinda had to force myself.
Let me tell you why this drama has such a low rating (especially considering the average rating for kdramas is much higher) and why there are so many negative comments. You might decide if it is worth your time or not after reading this.
So, what is wrong with this drama? Well, personally I would say it is the writing. The story feels like one you would watch in a 2010 kdrama (maybe even older). Now, don’t get me wrong. Some of the older dramas are way better than the new ones.
At the time everything was new, every character was either likeable or hateful, every twist and turn in the story was unexpected, every family drama was annoying but made the story even more rich, every romantic scene made girls all over the world scream.
This drama tried to be just that, except many years have passed and hundreds of other kdramas were made with similar stories and many characters were made with personalities that were copy-pasted from previous dramas, ...
So unlike the older dramas, the writing for this one looked really bad. It was nothing new, the characters were just hard to connect with and had personalities or traits that we all have seen many times, nothing was unexpected and everything was predictable, the family stuff was not only predictable but seemed quite ridiculous and the romantic scenes made many cringe (me included).
That, for me, was the main problem and where this drama fails. It tried to be something it could not be. It tried to recycle a bunch of things from older dramas and present them as if they were a completely new product. It did not work, at least not for people like me who have watched hundreds of kdramas and have been in this journey for several years.
If you are new to kdramas or dramas in general, go ahead, you might enjoy it since everything will seem new. But if you have been watching kdramas for a long time and are looking for an interesting plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat, characters that are refreshing to see and a romance that is either sweet or hot...yeah, I don’t think you will find it here.
I had this on my plan to watch list for a while and Zhao Zanilia is one of my favourite Chinese actresses but this had nowhere as much romance as I expected. After watching 12 episodes I saw romantic scenes but very few and some episodes had none at all. It was mostly business and some action moments in between, maybe even more than romantic ones. As I am not a business drama kind of person (find most of them quite boring if there are no elements to keep me interested, like comedy) and since the romance is secondary and the action is not that appealing to me, I just don’t think its worth going through 38 more episodes of this when 12 were already hard for me to watch.
This does not mean the drama is bad or the story is boring, you might like it. It just isn't my kind of drama and I am definitely not in the mood to force myself to watch it. I usually hate dropping dramas unless I hate them or think they are not worth my time, but this one is different. Just not my cup of tea.
The raws are available for anyone to watch on dailymotion in one of the alwaysmeena playlists. Now it would be awesome if someone showed up willing to sub it.
At first I was surprised, I did not have high expectations but it turned out it was pretty interesting. Then as I watched and around episode 9-10 I started to feel like the story would be wrapped up soon since everything was pretty much solved or at least obvious enough so they could get it done without the ending looking rushed. But the truth is this is 15 episodes long and each episode is almost as long as a movie so I felt like I had to force myself a little through the last episodes just so I could finish it even tho I already knew everything that would happen next. I would say that was the only issue I had. The mistery was probably the main reason for me to like this so once I had figured out things it was not as much fun to watch. They should have either kept it shorter or not revealed as much as they did so many episodes (which means several hours) before the ending.
Honestly, at first I was not going to watch it because I read some spoilers and knew more or less how things were going to end. That together with seeing the Tragedy tag up there it put me off so I set this as "not interested". But I have watched most of Chompoo’s dramas and for some reason I like to see her on screen (no, its not only because she is pretty, its something about her acting that makes it enjoyable). So I decided to give this a chance later. Although not amazing or anything I don’t regret watching it either.
What I liked about it was how their portrayal of Revenge was more realistic and had a sort of "moral of the story" for the viewers. In most Revenge dramas (at least thai ones) either have the person give up on the revenge midway, being found out too early or going through with it but being easily forgiven at the end and happy ever after for everyone or most characters.
I don‘t want to give away too much since this comment is already a borderline spoiler but let’s just say this one is not a copy paste from other revenge lakorns.
The truth is in real life resentment and getting revenge are things that hurt everyone around us and the target of our resentment/revenge and usually the one who gets the most hurt in the end of the day is the person who holds those bad feelings inside and act on them.
So if you have watched a lot of Revenge dramas and are tired of them always ending the same way, this drama is for you.
I have only watched the first 6 episodes and put this on hold for several months now. I just felt I was forcing myself to watch it. And looking at the comments and the low rating, especially for a korean drama, I guess it does not get better. I will probably just fast-forward a lot and finish it cause I hate leaving a drama like this when I already invested some time.
- Female lead that is a confident talented working woman that stands up for herself (although she has little control over her emotions, especially when someone gets on her nerves); - Plenty of real kisses that are not simply lips touching and that are rare in thai dramas; - Surprising twist (maybe not that surprising since I kinda guessed it pretty early in the story).
Reasons to NOT watch this:
- Almost everything else about it. I am sorry but they had such a good start why did they have to mess it up in the last episodes? They managed to avoid so many clichés in the first half so why did they add them in the second half? This was standing out from the crowd and then for some reason, maybe lack of other ideas to drag the story, they just decided to make the second half and ending not special at all and just as meh as any other thai drama. Was quite disappointed.
Just by reading the summary I already don’t like the female lead. She is married, her husband loves her but she is not satisfied and goes after not 1 but several other men, hmm, that has another name.
Am I the only one who has been waiting the longest time to watch this? So far there are only 4 episodes subbed, with the 4th one not being completely subbed yet. The person doing the subs picked this one up in July 2018 and so far only 4/24 episodes are subbed. I have no idea when I will be able to watch this. :(
At first I almost dropped it since I could not feel connected to the characters (which could have partially been caused by the fact most of the actors I have never seen or rarely seen before in other thai dramas). But I kind of got into the story and could see it’s charm by the end of the first episode (ok, maybe seeing the main lead shirtless might have to do with that).
Unfortunately and as I should have expected, not only the story was boring at times and did not stand out compared to other thai dramas I have watched, but they also kept adding clichés that were not necessary and made it harder and harder for me to keep watching, especially in the last episodes. Although I liked the romance between the main leads and could see how genuinely the male lead loved her, by the end I was not sure if I was glad I watched it or if it was not really worth my time.
So yeah, I have mixed feelings about this one. If you have not watched many thai dramas yet you might think this is awesome, but if like me you have watched plenty of them, you will probably feel like fast-forwarding at some point and might be disappointed with the last episodes.
I tried watching the first episode and was not able to continue. Like most people in the comments have said, this is ridiculous. Ridiculous is the perfect word to describe it.
Just the first episode and we were already forced to watch some of the most annoying clichés of thai dramas, screaming and yelling and people acting crazy and people seeing the character act crazy but still believing that someone they dont know well and that did nothing to make it look like she is a bad person, is actually evil just because my crazy jealous sister said so.
If the first episode was already this frustrating to watch, I can only imagine how much worse its going to get. I have watched way too many thai dramas to be able to go through this one when I can already predict I would drop it later anyway, so I might as well stop now and not waste my time.
Let me tell you that this is far from perfect. There are several clichés and it is not that different from any other lakorn. Like someone else said in the comments, the rape was completely unnecessary to the plot and is an awful thing that seems to be seen as less of a crime in Thailand compared to other countries. But the way it was shown was still less disgusting and violent than most slap and kiss lakorns out there, and to make us all feel better, I believe the female lead was crying more because she was conflicted with her feelings and what decision to make rather than the male lead forcing himself on her. (this is not really a spoiler since the tag Rape was added to this drama).
But those things aside, I was still pretty entertained. The main leads were both characters full of flaws, they legit deserved each other cause both in one way or another spent their life lying and tricking people. The male lead was a playboy that would lie and trick women just so he could sleep with them and did not seem to care much about how they would feel after. The female lead tricked people out of their money with her fortune telling even using it for her plan to con 40 million baht off a person. She also plotted an evil plan to force the male lead to marry her just so she could force him to ask for divorce later for her to get the money (soon enough the reasons for why she did this are revealed to the viewers, but it does not excuse her behaviour which we would usually see in the scheming second female lead of any other lakorn). Seeing these 2 huge liars that at first cant stand the sight of each other fall in love was entertaining by itself.
The second thing that made this enjoyable was all the hilarious moments we were given, mainly because of the main lead’s desire to win over each other in everything, especially making the other want to divorce. The behind the scenes at the end of the last episode, although short, were also funny and a good way to wrap this up.
So overall, I would still recommend it if you keep in mind that neither of the main leads is a "good" person per say, morally speaking, and the fact that there is rape even if it does not look as bad as in other thai dramas.
it really makes me think of fushigi yugi, I like the atmosphere of thisshow
I know what you mean. I guess that is why I thought this was one of the best thai dramas I have watched. Fushigi yugi is one of my favourite animes and I have lost count how many times I have watched it.
Beautiful, one of the best written thai dramas. I usually don’t watch this kind of thai drama because they are full of supernatural elements and superstitions that I personally find silly (not trying to be disrespectful to the culture, just giving my honest opinion) and historical thai dramas also tend to be even more draggy than the ones that happen in the modern day. But guess what? I was pleasantly surprised. Of course it had its faults and honestly I skipped most of the scenes that happened in the present cause I could not care less about them. I only watched a few to keep track of things. But the ones in the past I was never able to fast-forward since I was enjoying it so much.
A few things I think made this enjoyable (between so many others): - They stayed away from some of the most annoying lakorn clichés. There were no evil characters, only ones with bad intentions. The male lead’s mother at first looked like she would be evil or just be there for the sake of complicating things (like in 99 per cent of lakorns out there), the opposite, although she was strict, she honestly loved the female lead and treated her as if she was her daughter and she did not interfere too much in the leads relationship as to make it annoying. Also, no evil, jealous, crazy or scheming second female lead. She is as sweet as her name, Prayong (flower in thai), and she becomes good friends with the female lead even tho they have such different personalities and both like the male lead. Even the second female lead’s mother tried to be evil but she ended up looking just like a good person that momentarily had lack of judgement because of her love for her daughter (which also makes it more understandable).
- Although some people mentioned in the comments that they wish the female lead was more mature and intelligent so she could be more helpful and so it would make more sense for her to be chosen to be sent to the past, I actually am glad that she was intelligent (speaks 3 foreign languages aside from thai, cant be called dumb) but not too much and that she was quite childish and silly at times. This not only created many funny situations but was also what made her stand out and earn the love of everyone, including the male lead.
- The male lead was just too cute. He was not perfect, he was selfish at times and a little possessive too, but he honestly loved the female lead and seeing him treating her with so much respect, without ever forcing himself on her and even acting shy and blushing was a breath of fresh air. Most lakorns have the same kind of male lead and most of them are not the pleasant kind. In real life, at least in my country, most of them would be seen as perverts and criminals and no sane woman would want to be with them.
- The way the story was written made it so that even if this had a slow pace and there was not a lot of skinship/kisses, it does not matter, because you just want to keep watching.
It is a good rom-com. But I would actually recommend it more because of the comedy part. There is also some dramatic moments and fights as any other thai drama but overall it manages to stay away from a few clichés and annoying plot devices. There are some real kisses too, which you can only see in some of the dramas aired by Channel 3.
The actress playing the female lead also did not match the actor playing the male lead. It looked like a weird pairing and my guess is they chose her because they needed an actress that would actually be able to pull off a man’s character without being too obvious it is a woman dressing as a man.
