I love the new case, more so than some in S3, but I am not a big fan of the 17 min episode format either. I have…
Yep, probably the right way to watch this kind of drama (watch the episodes in batches). I might do that with ‘SCOT: Nine Tiered’ since I plan to watch it. If not, I'm gonna lose the whole plot midway, cause the episodes there are even shorter. LOL.
They threw Xijun in jail to investigate 🤦♀️, just like they did with Master Fei while investigating Dugu Xia Shu🤣. The first case wrapped up nicely, and the final case for S4 is commencing. Another crazy painter like Xin Qiao Bai and Ma Meng transferred to Chang’an, this should be interesting🧐
I’m not a fan of this ‘17-minute-plus’ episode format. Including the intro and outro songs, then you get what…15 minutes of an episode? It seemed too short for me, and the impact of an episode felt fleeting. My slow brain kept forgetting what is what and who is who. And ended up jumbling the leads and clues.
Nonetheless, the mysteries and the detective work so far have been good. Cult and gore, a sprinkle of likeness from S1. Chef’s kiss 😘.
I agree. It's S4 but it a bit strange how they went about it. I guess it's only appropriate for something so strange…
Probably because of the Chinese superstition about the number 4. This YouTuber explained it well why the production team went completely with a new name. (15:02)
I've been holding up to give my thoughts on S3. Have mixed feelings about everything in S3, mostly negative. So, I decided to binge-watch the whole three seasons all over again (Yes, I’m crazy), just to prove myself wrong. And realized I'm being too harsh about S3.
A brief says on the last three cases. The Five Feet from Heaven case, the only case I zoned in from the start till the end. NGL, I got teary-eyed on the ending. The most heartbreaking case since The Provider from S2. Totally not expected on what had happened to Wei Jia, and Du Niang is the boss, a true matriarch to both Wei Clan and Du Clan. The Age Borrower case; happy that SWM has an official post again. And I’ve a strong feeling that Xijun gonna adopt the two children of Zhong Shizai, considering what she did in the past with Xue Huan and Yang Ji. The Imperial Polo Ball case, nothing much to say except I appreciate that the production team didn’t reduce Xue Huan's involvement in their investigative work and I’ve always loved LuLu and Xue Huan's fight scene tandem from the start of S3 till the end. This Pei Mian character intrigues me to my liking. He formidable contender to face the Emperor’s palace courts, especially Attendant Yang. When he spat STFU at them was very satisfying. Man, here I thought the Emperor was the victim of his own cunning courts, but no. He also has something up his sleeve; no wonder the Princess is plotting a coup (based on history). If I were her, I’d also gonna be pissed.
All and all, S3 has charm on its own. I think we are too critical to judge S3 because of how good its predecessors were (which I personally made throughout the airing of S3). Admittedly, S3 did not live up to its predecessor, yet we can consider it to be one of the best-produced dramas in 2025. IMO, S3 was a creative experiment. In S1, we had a load of supernatural cases and detective-esque investigations. In S2, they did the same but with good balance, adding more human emotion and components without neglecting what they did in S1. In S3, they tried to repeat what was in S1 and S3 but added political intrigues (And to be honest, they didn’t put that many) and some other additions and changes I refrain from mentioning because it would be repetitive since others had mentioned before me. Some might like it, some might not. For me, I don’t like changes unless I’m being forced to. However, after rewatching back all three seasons, I'm glad that the production team did what they did in S3. It opened my eyes to a lot of things, the good and the bad, and I appreciate even more all of STOTD’s season. The goods are for something to be proud of and the bads would be taken as future reference to improve better. S4 is on its way with S5 and S6 in the making (supposedly.). I’ll trust the writer and production team will make adjustments, if deemed necessary.
Last but not least, BRAVO to all the actors, actresses and production team for making S3 a success 👏. S4 is on the way with S5 and S6 in the making (supposedly.). As a fan, I gladly and patiently wait for all the future seasons to come ❤️.
Potential conflict of interests is an interesting issue and the answer is: it depends. As a public official, LLF…
Most likely, your Point 2 will likely be brought into question. And you’re right, SWM’s post isn’t an official post. That would cross out any misconduct on his side. But I still think, not the same with LuLu though. That surely would have forced the royal court (and the Emperor) to investigate the Youngzhou Prefecture Office, especially LuLu. Then again, it comes down to how well they keep Xijun’s influence and donation as a secret. If the public (citizen) and other parties (enemies) stay ignorant of the arrangement, none of the complaints on conflict-of- interest would be materialized.
I don’t know much about law and legal stuff, but isn’t it a person charged with attempted murder can still be indicted regardless the attempt fails? Or at least conspiracy charges, for both Jiaonu and Manager Hou. And also, a sword to the neck, enough to prove to me the intention to kill at least. Plus, her planning to get to the Poet’s Contest still counts. If I sit on jury duty, 100% I vote her guilty. LOL. IMO, LuLu couldn’t do much since the victim basically ‘pardoned’ them all. To make it more ridiculous, he’s also the one who allowed it to happen in the first place. 🤷♀️
HE.LICKED.THE.PISS. 🤦♀️🤣 Ohmahgadd, Master Fei! You’re the best.Always love the sisterhood between…
Can I take a wild guess and say that the sheriffs are the killers? Sheriff Wei is the most obvious and I suspect he is working with Sheriff Du. Their cockfighting is just a show.

Always love the sisterhood between Xijun and Yingtao. Xijun is always an eager beaver when it comes the time of showing Changan to Yingtao.
