I feel like this drama does well in using its limited resources. The plot isn't huge and ambitious like xianxias with gods or stuff related to royalty that involves very elaborate sets and costumes that shows weaknesses in budget or production very easily. Instead the limited amount of things they use they make sure they're designed well. The lighting and music do so much to give every scene a lot of atmosphere and texture. It's a fairly simple plot without too many moving parts so they can control things easier without having a fool-proof script or the best writing team. If they keep at his until the end this drama will probably be one of my faves.

Is it just me or do the scenes/pacing seem kind of disjointed? After Shen Li takes human form again it feels like i'm watching a collection of scenes and have no sense of time or context.

It took me 3 tries in several months to get over Orchid's baby voice and character enough to continue watching, but once I did I ended up really liking this drama. I don't like Wang Hedi or Yu Shuxin generally, but they did very well here. In particular, Wang Hedi's scenes with his father character blew me away with the emotional range he was able to express.

Love this drama so much. I can't help but wonder if the ending would've not been as jarring if they were given 5-10 more eps of breathing space. I noticed a lot redubbing in the last couple of episodes which seems to happen a lot with dramas that had to cram episodes to fit the 40-ep cap.

This has officially become my comfort drama lol. The amount of times I've replayed random episodes at random times throughout the day.

Those were with ranqing and ying yuan right? I remember he made an appearance really early on wearing a mask where he absorbed the divinity of captured soldiers or something like that.

Does anyone remember what episode Xuan Ye first appears in? I think it was a flashback with him cleaning his sword.

I always thought it was cus he's naturally a bit awkward and bad at unscripted events where there's a spotlight put on him. He seems to be more relaxed when he's in a group interview or around people he's familiar with (Hello Saturday with MLC cast for example). He's also visibly a lot more comfortable when he's being asked questions about his roles and acting as opposed to expect to entertain the audience with random stuff.

I hope ee takes more "clever lao huli" roles like li lianhua or "shameless smug villain" roles like xuan ye. He's so good at them and it's a nice change to see him play really animated and expressive characters.
