C-ent is crazy but in this crazy context I can understand Cheng Yi's fandom's point of view. I hope the production and CY can move forward without any after effects.
[edit] Adding that I also wish HJJ best of luck rebuilding his career. He's too high risk right now for big projects but he can still redeem himself. He's still young and has an existing fanbase which should help him get roles even if they're not S+ productions. I think as long as he's out there and working he can slowly change public opinion.
This is hands down my favourite DMBJ adaptation. Acting's great, iron triangle chemistry is great, pacing is quick and snappy with barely any downtime at all (which was a downside for me for TLT2, Sha Hai, and Reunion, which I also liked a lot character and acting wise). Also is it just me or is the colour grading here GORGEOUS? Sand dunes are beautiful, the jungle is lush and humid, city scenes are vibrant.
One of the main issues with "Immortality" is its basis in a boys' love (BL) novel, which features romantic relationships…
The reason it's not airing is because the Chinese government did a BL drama ban in 2021(? can't remember exact year). There was a series of huge fan dramas that happened related to dangai/danmei and the government basically used that as an excuse to condemn the genre as a whole. As far as I know it's not a concrete ban, which is why some smaller dangai productions are trying their luck, but ultimately no one wants to get on the bad side of CCP so even those get taken down really quickly.
Maybe we'll see this in 20 years when (hopefully) the government no longer cares about their crusade and Tencent finds this in their archives and releases it out of pity (and potential money) and we can remember how it feels to be young and optimistic again 😂
I feel like they did Xiaoge dirty in this. The show kept giving lip service to the Iron Triangle, but actually Xiaoge just shows up when it's convenient for the plot? We don't even really know what he was doing for those large stretches of time he was away, and we get no insights to his thoughts or feelings about anything. He just appears when the team needs fighting power. All of his dialogue seem to involve solving problems so they can move onto the next puzzle. Anything about him as a person we hear as exposition from other characters. If this were the only Lost Tomb drama I ever saw I would think he was just some ass-kicking cyborg.
I'm really trying to finish this show cus I love DMBJ and the acting's great, but there's just so much stuff in here that could've been cut out. I would say half the show is wasted on pointless dialogue or lingering shots that doesn't move character or plot development. Moments of actual plot are so tightly interspliced with moments of filler I can't even skip properly without potentially missing some important info so I have to watch everything on 2x speed.
It has been so long I literally forgot this existed, like "what do you mean a LYX drama passed review? Shui Long Yin already?" But yeah, I'm really excited this is potentially coming out soon!
The newest addition, oldest Hua daughter is just despicable. The way she looks down on maids and treats them as…
Sad to say but unfortunately that's how rich people treated (and still do, if you know where to look) their servants. I've repeated heard how very wealthy families sometimes sees their help staff as equivalent to furniture which is why they're comfortable saying and doing horrible stuff in front of their staff that the staff end up gossiping about. These women in the show all come from wealthy families where there would be that kind of mindset instilled into them from a young age, and if they've never known poverty then they wouldn't know any better. On top of that those servants in the show are basically slaves to some degree (they're sold and bought).
In regards to them kicking out Boli's biological mother, from what I gather from the in-drama dialogue, her coveting her biological child and revealing to him that she's his biological mother is a taboo. As a concubine, she's of a much lower status than the proper wife and if she handed over her son to be raised as the child of a proper wife (which would also elevate the status of Boli himself), then there must have been some agreement about revealing that kind of information. It was cruel what they did to her given her condition at the time, but the fact that not even Hua Zhi contested the move means that she wasn't in the right to have done that. Likewise Hua Zhi can go head-to-head with the other moms like Jin'E because she's the eldest offspring of the eldest son of the household, which gives her a higher rank in the household.
What I like about the show is that you have these women who are very flawed but also an unfortunate product of their time. All the ladies of the household are well-educated and capable, but the first thing they think of when banished from the city was to find a man, any man, to help save the household when they have the ability to do it themselves. A lot of the struggle Hua Zhi faced in the beginning was due to her own family members because they were trapped in that "only men can run a family" mindset.
i started watching this solely for zhang jingyi. but now i’m fond of most of the female characters! the only…
Maybe the ML's character's the problem. I've seen Hu Yi Tian in My Roommate is a Detective and his character there is hyperactive, wily and slippery (basically the complete opposite of Gu Yanxi lol).
Whenever I see a drama with 40 episodes these days I get worried the ending will be crammed and rushed, but hopefully this drama's paced well until the end. Really loving it so far <3
Its not love anymore. Its obsession with an idea. If he found yang cawei in the biggining and she was a bad person.…
At the very start of the show, before PY met YCW for the first time as an adult, it was obsession, but when he started to get to know her during their first investigation he fell in love with her for real. He started liking "SGZ" because he was attracted to YCW's personality, which PY was in love with. YCW being suspicious of PY makes perfect sense because she thought she saw PY killing "YCW". If you were her wouldn't you be suspicious too? At that point in the show she thought he threw her away when they were children and was sceptical about his intentions to begin with considering how many years they've been apart, their huge gap in social status, and that her face is disfigured. And she wasn't "hell bent on revenge", her goal was first to figure out what happened then decide what to do from there. If she wanted to just kill him outright this would've been a different kind of drama and she wouldn't have worked with him and given him any chances. People find the relationship romantic because their original affections for each other was proven real through overcoming the scheming of other people and even personal issues with each other (both past and present). You're focused on the negative, but they've shown way more positive things in their relationship. If you're looking for 100% pure angelic characters then this drama probably isn't for you.
