Pros: Probably the only drama I know where the characters go on very cool dates, oh how I wish I had romantic aesthetic encounters like that - cool tea shop dates, art galleries, chance meeting in foreign land, secret rendezvous ramyun dates, SWINGS!! :P also, very beautiful usage of mythology and music, bonding over art and poetry, production value is high.
Cons: I give 0 shits about the politics business and sick and tired of rich/poor people dramas. Also, not really feeling a lot of genuine chemistry. Hopefully, they will prove me wrong with time tho. I am having a hard time relating to the story whole heartedly because sometimes the male lead seems too idealistic and the female lead seems too unemotional.
Let's see where this goes. Not dropping this one yet.
finally watched ep 9 with subs. I could hear my heartbeat during the ending scene. This is the first time in my…
There is honestly no drama like this one, and I have watched my fair share of romances. Also, I am glad I was able to watch this drama as on-going because it got me so invested in the characters and story, it was like a journey over the last few months, with other enthusiasts like me on MDL. Its a special experience, analyzing each episode with other cool people here, patiently waiting for subs, getting anxious while watching raws and feeling clueless about what is being said, but all of it truly made this experience very memorable. <333 thank you to everyone here as well as subing team etc. I am getting teary eyed thinking next episode is the last one now lol
Episode 09 - my heart. Now is the time for Kuroiwa and Hijiri to face everyone. Mother is visiting every place…
It really frustrates me when people blame others for their mistakes. While I understand Aiko-san's decision to separate Hijiri and Akira 3 years ago, and keeping the secret about his father hidden for a while, I am very disappointed in her that she shifts the blame on her rift with her son on external forces. She needs to communicate with her son, and same goes for Akira. They need to apologize to each other for hurting each other, but like Akira's dad mentioned, both of them are stubborn and need to get over it.
Just caught up on episode 9 and watched raws for episode 10, and HONESTLY this drama can do no wrong.
- I love all the foreshadowing in episode 9, it was literally the calm before the storm, and I BELIEVE the storm will be a test of their love even more which will only make their feelings stronger. This episode was very satisfying to watch, but also the dark undertones throughout the episode was undeniable. I felt like something deep inside me was hurting - somewhere inside me I was worried for our main characters and their future, as I was watching the scenes in this episode, what with Runa chan's, "No one is going to approve of them. They have no future together." to Shotaro yelling at Hijiri, "Do you understand how much uproar you caused? It can be considered a crime!" This drama doesn't even pretend to be light-hearted, it knows that it is dealing with a real taboo topic and is not afraid to go there (which it did at the end of episode 10 hi police lol)
- I am now resting assured that Hijiri and Akira are practically endgame, at least if the writer decides to keep them alive and let them live until old age. I have no doubt about Akira's sentiment, " I think I won't be able to like someone else other than Sensei." or Hijiri's, "I'm still like the way I was [3 years ago], what should I do to forget?" Neither of them will ever get over their feelings, it is literally impossible, if they don't end up together, they will practically end up living a lie, they will end up living against what their heart truly desires, and no matter how long it takes, no matter what happens, they will always find each other. Their love is just too insanely beautiful and strong. So I am not worried about that anymore. Now I just want to see that happen on screen in the finale, that's all I want.
- THAT KISS SCENE IN EPISODE 9. I am dead. I am speaking from the grave. Seriously, props to Arimura Kasumi and Okada Kenshi for their sizzling chemistry and to act such a difficult and tender scene with so much heart and passion. If you compare the actors and their respected scenes with Shoutaro's character and Runa's character, you can just TELL so much is missing with scenes with their past significant others. Every time these two characters interact romantically, there is 0 awkwardness, just 1000% pure emotions. And ironically, even though society disapproves of their relationship, these two have the healthiest relationship in the entire drama. Both of them communicate about their deep emotions without any reservations, they are supportive of each other, interested in each other's genuine selves, and care about each other's individual growth. Their sunset scenes are my favorite. Now every time I will think about this couple, I will be reminded of sunsets and enjoying the beauty and tenderness of experiencing them.
- EPISODE 10: I am such a proud mama of Akira, you have no idea. Someone was saying earlier, Akira is so manipulative for ditching Sensei after chasing her for so long, but I would like to say HOW AMAZING THAT HE DID IT. That is probably the most adult thought he has shown in the drama, and I am so happy. Akira now knows that loving another person includes thinking about their happiness selflessly, and now he is aware of consequences, he acts accordingly, without being too rash like kissing or hugging Sensei spontaneously, without thinking about the consequences. He recognizes how important teaching is to Hijiri, and that decision came from a place of pure selflessness and love for her, I think that was so beautiful. It was so nice to see Hijiri chase after Akira too, my kokoro goes doki doki at the scene when she runs to him, and the scene where Akira grabs her hand and makes a run for it. Reminds me of that one time three years ago when he did the same.
- Of course I am worried about the police stuff and I want to punch the person who reported them like WTF, I hope Akira does punch that person lmao (I think it was Kokonoe lol). Also Haraguchi is PREGNANT I am calling it haha. I'm so nervous about the finale and I just want to watch it NOW, but at the same time my heart sinks thinking there will be no new episodes and scenes between our beloved sensei and Akira-kun TT-TT
I admire your patience. I ended up caving in and reading the spoilers/watching raws oof
really good!! full of angst + lovely scenes. apparently it gets more frustrating in ep. 10 and onward but I think it's totally worth it in the end. Makes the journey even more meaningful and realistic.
This one's a guilty pleasure with cliche storyline and entertaining over-the-top acting. If you're looking for a daily drama to help you de-stress in the end of the day, this is it. I like that the episodes are pretty short so it doesn't take up too much time. There are no difficult plotlines to follow either. I enjoy the female lead, she isn't an annoying pushover, the male lead is immature but at least he is funny. Also, is it just me or does anyone else ship the main lead's sister with the baby's father who takes selfies all the time lol oops
ABSOLUTELY LOVED the first two episodes. Enjoyed the soundtrack and pacing. They are dealing with the topic of marriage and Japanese society in such a sincere way I love it. Off to a promising start. Now, to wait for subs..... :((
Well his mom is desperate. She feels as though it’s her fault Akira stopped talking to her, it’s irrational…
Yeah you're completely right about mom misplacing her blame on Hijiri. Like, Akira hates you because you separated them, and I know you had to, but you should be understanding of your son. Also, I think it is hard for her to accept that Hijri was a homeroom teacher, and according to her, sensei was toying with him, being in a position of higher power. Sometimes it's easy to forget that the relationship between Hijiri and Akira is one in a million, because usually this type of relationship has a big power dynamic/can be sexual and predatory in nature. And I think, that's what the mom believed and still continues to believe. But she needs to be slapped back into reality and the situation at hand, that Hijiri and Akira truly love each other, and if she tries to break them off she will end up making her son just as miserable as she has become after her failed marriage. I think she should know more than anyone that love comes unexpectedly and there is no right or wrong to it.
As for Shotaro, he just needs to grow the f up and move on. I think Shotaro trying to meddle so much into her ex-fiance's business just shows that he is still insecure about himself (he can't believe he lost Hijiri to a then-junior high student), and he needs to move on from his feelings because their relationship is simply irrepareable and Hijiri doesn't love him anymore. I know that moving on is tough, but boy, meddling in other people's business isn't going to help.
Cons: I give 0 shits about the politics business and sick and tired of rich/poor people dramas. Also, not really feeling a lot of genuine chemistry. Hopefully, they will prove me wrong with time tho.
