I have a question for the people who finished this and watched the Japanese version also. Did they have the balls to go with the incest storyline in the Korean version? Just wondering
In my opinion, the best ending and the worst ending won't happen. The best ending- I don't think the writers will…
Yeah you have made a great point about how Hijiri is very practical and made the decision about leaving Shotaro because as Akira was running towards her and begging her not to go she fully came to the realization that she loved him more than Shotaro and they could never be happy together if they went with the marriage. I also think that the timing sucks based on the bullshit with Tachibana family issues. But as I was watching episode 6, they kept hinting at how Hijiri ran away and she wants to keep running away from Akira forever, she even told Shotaro, she will never go back to Akira because she is ashamed of what she did in 2015. I understand that it was impossible for them to be together, but I fear that Hijiri thinks she can never be with Akira, even after she fixes the whole issue with her student. Not to mention Akira's mom is hellbent on keeping them apart or wants to create more havoc. I am just interested to see how Hijiri chooses to be true to her feelings by being with Akira now that he is an adult, despite the past, and I hope that she doesn't let society's gossip prevent her from choosing to be with the man she loves. I believe in her though because she is one of my favorite characters who always takes responsibility over her actions, and even though at times her emotions can be in opposition to the world, I know she is strong haha

I think my greatest wish for this drama is to see Hijiri finally run after Akira (maybe after Akira says 'Sayonara Sensei' :P A girl can dream). As we all know, Akira is an awkward but straightforward fluffball, always chasing after his sensei, and never in a single moment he faulters to show that she is the most important thing in his life. However, Hijiri's situation is completely different, and much more complex, which I relate to in many ways. When people say shit like, Hijiri is so damn passive, I see it more as, certain lines that society has taught her to never cross. Let's face it, we would all deal with it in the same way as Hijiri, because of taboo. And she has mentioned time and time again how much responsibility she holds towards her students, how much she dreams of being a reliable teacher. So, Hijiri has a very difficult time being honest about her emotions and making decisions from her heart. Haraguchi said it best, "Pretending to be ordinary, doing things accepted by society, and so hiding your true self, it's very lame to be like that." That, in fact, is Hijiri's greatest weakness, and I truly hope that this drama shows her grow as a character who can accept her feelings for Akira despite how unordinary their relationship is, and be her true self, while pursuing her goal to be a good sensei.
I'm glad that you define the whole situation this way, I think sometimes when we have our shipper goggles on we forget that the whole thing is indeed problematic because the relationship is between an adult in power and a minor who knows nothing about love and the real world. and even though we ship them, it's still important to realize how wrong it is for them to get together in the 2015 era. but still i continue to ship them and love their explosive chemistry :3 and i hope they get together soon
I was reading netizen reaction to casting of Okada as a middle schooler and this comment made me laugh. "I wonder…
lol if a dashing okada kenshi as kuroiwa showed up in my life pretending to be 15 I'd probably fall in love with him too who am I kidding. the casting choice is a big factor for us spazzing over this pair, if it was some awkward childish 15 yr old it would be too creepy to ship them
Overrated as hell. Takane just randomly falling in love after their first arranged marriage date felt forced, the entire premise felt very forced to me, I couldn't really get to like either of the main characters, and there were so many cliches flying everywhere don't even get me started. It's just a generic cliche rom com with a "stoic emotionless" male lead and a "bubbly" female lead, and I don't get why people on MDL hype it up so much. Maybe I just expected a lot
Sometimes I think of Hijiri and her situation makes me so sad. Her biggest dream in life is to be a teacher, and it's so upsetting that society would deem her unsuitable in her profession because she fell in love with her student. I hope that she can be a great teacher and also stay together with Kuroiwa but close minded people make it hard for her to be who she wants to be. Hijiri has to choose between true love and her passion for teaching, and even then, she will be shunned down by society for choosing either or both. This kind of situation is actually very commonplace and I'm glad the drama tackles a complex topic like this.
just had a chance to read it and wow hijiri got quite a mom
"Her mom suggests that she should go ahead with the wedding as planned. It’s not like she can’t be together with her student. She can elope with him when he turns 18 and nullify her marriage."
lmao her mom is insane i totally cracked up at that part
What a roller coaster ride of emotion thus drama is making me feel. I love everything about this drama. The theme…
I just started getting into japanese dramas thanks to this show! And yeah I totally feel what you're saying, new episodes with subs is such a waiting game >.<
This is a real gem, and I'm afraid all other romantic dramas I watch from now on will pale compared to this one, it has really left a big impression on me lol
Im so sorry for bringing this topic up, but...Pedophilia is used for individuals with a primary or exclusive sexual…
Even though the story is between an adult and a minor, I wouldn't call the nature of relationship as pedophillic. Firstly, the show mentions that Kuroiwa has just gone through puberty so it's not like he is a little kid who doesn't understand adult topics at all. His mother keeps hiding about what happened with his father because he's "not old enough" to get it, but just like his mother was at first in denial that Kuroiwa is growing and is mature enough to learn about the adult world, potential viewers make quick judgment that the story is about pedophilia. Society would blame teacher/student relationship like this entirely on Hijiri, although Kuroiwa is old enough or at least learning about what it means to fall in love with someone intensely. His age doesn't discount the feelings for his sensei, and it most definitely doesn't mean it is invalid or a lie.
I have never felt like this way before!! I literally love everything about it!!! I don't think I will ever recover from the emotional rollercoaster that is this drama, once its over. The chemistry, the characters, the simple yet heartfelt cinematography, the nostalgic Japanese countryside vibes, the dialogues, the pacing, all of it is just so so beautiful. I feel so many emotions when I watch this and every passing day without a new episode or subs just makes me feel depressed and crazyyyyy. It's like Kuroiwa would say, "What the hell is this? Isn't it strange? Isn't it supposed to be something wonderful? This thing called love." :P In any way, I'm so glad that this drama is getting the attention it deserves on MDL, and I hope that it continues to make me feel all kinds of emotions.
This one was very underwhelming, and the characters had an awkward chemistry. Just skip episodes 7, 8 and 9 and head straight to episode 10, you won't really miss out on anything except main characters not communicating and going around in circles.
