I feel you.I got so much to say abt this impeccable project, but i wanna do it properly, and yet i still dont…
right haha i'm going to take my sweet sweet time because i feel like i have too many things i loved that i want to gush about... hopefully i'll get to see your review at some point!
I know, right. I have dug up a costume drama "the royal feast", the same female lead and the male lead is Xu Kai,…
oh nice, royal feast is great! the plot is less high-tension and a bit more understated compared to this drama but i loved all the characters and their relationships ^^ i hope you enjoy your watch!
BTS of the extra episode: ... https://v.douyin.com/i6LGfFuE/
i love that they're still comfortable even after a whole year of not filming together hehe i'm glad they were able to work together again for a lovely bonus!
Iām wanting to start this, the last Chinese drama I finished completely and loved was the long ballad and who…
i've never watched the dramas you've mentioned, but to answer your other questions ā
love triangles: without spoiling too much, the SML is the FL's ex-husband, but it's pretty clear that the leads only have eyes for each other. there are quite a few one-sided crushes/moments of jealousy that get resolved quickly without too much drama or misunderstandings
evil second leads: this is a revenge drama (although it's more accurate to say that it's about the FL fighting for justice and carrying out retribution) so YES the second male + female leads along with some other major characters are evil. but i promise you'll enjoy them!! they're all well-written
main leads' chemistry: insanely good. they're so beautiful together, and their relationship progression is probably one of my most favourite ever from all the dramas i've watched. it's really hard to explain without gushing too much so i'll just say that they do an amazing job at convincing you of their love story ^_^
i appreciate WXY and WJY's chemistry so much more now that i've watched the interview where they talked about how vague the script was... they discussed a lot about XFF + XH's relationship development and created as many sweet moments as they could šāāļøšāāļøšāāļø
i didn't interpret it as open/ambiguous at all. maybe it's the romantic in me, but i believe XFF went back to that hill because she's still keeping her promise to wait for XH's return, which /he/ promised would happen when the wintersweet blossomed. and after all the episodes we've watched, we know that XH has never broken a promise he made to her. he definitely comes home :> it's a happy ending!
(lighthearted) whether or not it's satisfying enough is an entirely other subjective judgement haha
green was actually the bride's traditional wedding dress colour back in the tang dynasty!
the director mentioned that the drama isn't set in a /specific/ dynasty (he kept it ambiguous) so the green wedding dress was probably just an artistic choice like the pearl makeup, which references the song dynasty
historically, they changed to red for the bride during the ming dynasty

op translated yu zheng's recent post about his thoughts on the drama. really interesting that he considers it a fairytale :~)
