Title Melancholia Spoiler
Is this ' Chuugakusei Nikki' the japanese drama from 2018's korean remake?
It's not a remake. And from the info that has been released, it's not going to be as scandalous as Chuugakusei Nikki (which was about so much more than a taboo relationship, but anyway). The actual scandal will be over a wrongful accusation, but I don't think anything romantic will happen between the main leads, at least as long as the ML is in school. I think he probably develops a secret crush, but that won't really come to light until he is an adult.

It's that a fetish in Japan? Because Good morning call it's the same thing 🤔
It's definitely a popular trope (that I'm not a fan of)...

Doesn't it look like the drama Chugakusei Nikki? I loved that one.
That's what I thought! And the trailers give me that same sombre feeling of yearning. I love Im Soo Jung from Search WWW, so I hope it'll be just as good.

From all the comments you're making, I can say that you're the one who has understood the drama and it's perspective…
Aw shucks. I'm up to Episode 14 and it's oh so good

It's so meaningful that Kang Jae's KakaoTalk picture is the photo of the sea where he spread his dad's ashes and Boo Jung's picture is the cut on her knee that she got when she lost her job. Both photos immortalise major turning points in their lives that they haven't been able to get over.

Why do I feel like LBJ and LKJ won't end up together??!! I really want them to end up together T_T. I know they…
I personally don't mind if they don't end up together. Sometimes you don't end up with your soulmate. Sometimes it's enough to meet someone who shows you that there is more to you and more to life. Even if they don't end up together, I think they will have gained new perspectives on their lives and feel comforted by the memories.

I'm up to episode 10 and I love the thought that Kang Jae spent weeks (a month?) at home moping after letting Bu Jeong go. He's such a sensitive soul poor baby

Since I have no faith in most people, my guess is it's something shallow like My Mister is between an older man…
Ahaha fair call. I thought Kang Jae was 27 (maybe 28 because he had his birthday?) and Bu Jeong was 40. But Jeon Do Yeon hasn't aged for the past decade, so she could be any age and I wouldn't care. 😅

My Mister had more Korean family and cultural dynamics, I thought, maybe it was more appealing as the characters…
I think the subversion of such tropes it what brings the story closer to reality. I interpret the MIL's behaviour as a cry for help. Her judgemental nature is pretty likely a product of her society, while her constant meddling seems to conveys sense of loneliness and a desire to be included. Speaking of palettes - I adore the colour palette in this drama. It's deep and pensive, but there are still moments coloured with warmth.

Title Lost Spoiler
At the start of the show, Bu Jeong didn't have an Achille's heel for Ah Ran to exploit. She was a pitiful woman who had lost her child, lost her job and lost herself. Her only vice was posting slander about Ah Ran, and even that was based on truth.
Even though she met Kang Jae by chance, Jong Hoon and Ah Ran think they are responsible for introducing them. They probably believe that they introduced Bu Jeong to her one major weakness - having an affair with an escort/ people rental service provider. I didn't really get why there relationship is so taboo until I took a step back and thought about how people would perceive them, since they weren't doing anything questionable until about episode 14.

Is it drawn from Osamu’s “No longer human”? I absolutely love this drama and would love to read Osamu’s…
Oops! I forgot to say that people speculate that this drama might have drawn inspiration from the book. I've edited my post. The titles are exactly the same, and the exploration of themes is deeply linked, so I like to believe that these speculations are true. The drama doesn't have the same plot as the book, but they're definitely exploring a similar set of ideas.

I see! I can definitely sense that Lost is more esoteric and I actually love that. It's truly a story that explored universal themes, even if some of the approach is very Korean (in terms of the sense of taboo and shame around certain experiences like depression).

My mister kind of has the same vibes and humane I would say. but nothing else in common really .. Both are unique…
Thank you for letting me know! Yeah I'm up to episode 8 and I went into the drama knowing the leads were perfect for these roles. They're both such talented actors.

Title Lost
I've noticed a lot of people bringing up My Mister whenever they discuss Lost, but I've never watched My Mister. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts about why My Mister was both critically acclaimed and super popular, while Lost is less so (despite starring Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Joon Yeol)? I partially think it's due to the timing of the drama's release - I can't imagine many people want to watch such a depressing (but great) melodrama while the world is still trying to recover from a pandemic.

I've seen Korean netizen's comments about Ryu Joon Yeol not being suitable for the role because he's a) not that good looking and b) doesn't have the charming personality of a male escort. I think the point about his looks is pretty subjective, but I think he would stand out in a crowd of Korean men. He isn't conventionally attractive by insane Korean standards, but he is definitely more handsome than your average person and has a sort of aura about him. I actually think he's a more realistic casting choice - your typical escort/person rental provider isn't going to look like Cha Eun Woo. He probably doesn't come off as charming because we see usually see him in his everyday life, rather than when he's working.

I actually like that the drama is (potentially? rumoured to be? speculated to be?) named after Osamu Dazai's famous novel, without being a direct adaptation of the text. The drama draws deeply from the themes in the novel, which makes it a very true modern adaptation in terms of the exploration of ideas. We delve into ideas of cultural shame, a sense of alienation, a desire for belonging, futile attempts to perform 'normality'... It's like this drama distills the essence of the novel and reinterprets it for a modern audience.

I have a feeling that when she told him she'd do anything, he asked her to quit her job or something similar.…
I guess we just have to wait and see!

I think the ex might've told people that Dal Ri's family broke off the engagement to help her save face. After all, he's always been in love with her. That's part of why I feel like it's not truly her fault that he didn't want to be with her anymore.

So far so good! Just the right balance between (budding) romance and comedy so far. I'm curious though as to why…
I have a feeling that when she told him she'd do anything, he asked her to quit her job or something similar. Dal Ri is so independent and she'd probably have to drop her dreams in order to become a chaebol's wife. I think that's one of the few things that would make her give up on him when she clearly loved him so much.
