I got strong allegorical vibes in the last few episodes. For their industry - actress, actor, writer, stalker,…
The financer/producer husband only wanted to own his wife and make her depend on him for everything - with the threat of destroying her if she didn’t. The award ceremony venue looked like a cathedral with religious importance. Actress and actor who are beloved but tormented, one who takes it out on himself and one who takes it out on others. Etc.
I got strong allegorical vibes in the last few episodes. For their industry - actress, actor, writer, stalker, financer/producer, media, obsessive fan. Makes me want to rewatch with this new lens.
I have to add that the most recent 2 episodes of Resident Playlist (that I watched after making this game) did have the kind of heart and humor I was hoping for. I’m hopeful it will continue to get better as the characters grow closer and we learn more about them.
It's a kind of historical drama, isn't it? she said that she didn't want that genre.
I tend to like modern dramas better than historical in general, however, I LOVE the Chinese fantasy dramas. She should try Love Between Fairy and Devil - it is heads above the rest, so if she doesn't like it, she won't like any. She also said 32 episodes max, and its 36 so not too much longer. And its one of the few that I didn't want to FF/skip towards the end.
I loved the Grim Reaper character, but (and this is very petty) I would have preferred that he had a better haircut and a more fashionable hat. More importantly, why would the others forgive him for his past life actions? I feel like that was glossed over a bit too much.
I was disappointed in the 2nd FLs portrayal - she was so warm and funny in WWW Search, she felt cold here. They could have given more nods to analogous real-world situations like loving someone (romantically or as family) who changes their gender, has multiple personality disorder, or constantly shows themselves differently to the extent it would be hard to pin down their real self (like an actor/actress).
The end felt abrupt and not really a happy ending to me. The queen was no longer the person the King fell in love with...he was very attracted to the masculine & modern part of her/his personality. The F/M lead goes back and never sees their child born, which strikes me as sad. Also, what is going to happen next for him?
The only part that I didn't love was the FL leaving him when she did and how she did. The rest of the show, I felt really in-tune with her mental and emotional state, but not with that. He had put in obvious effort to get closer, so it seemed unkind to just leave like that without an explanation.
The storyline with the mother/villain was not executed or acted at the same level as everything else. Whereas the other characters were depicted with nuance, she was pretty one-dimensional and over-acted.
It was a good decision to make it longer than the standard show, but it was still pretty ambitious so some aspects of the world-building and secondary storylines could have been more fleshed-out. The ending worked out a little too neatly for this genre. The switch in actresses was also hard to accept emotionally as a viewer.
It is appropriate for the ending to be bittersweet, but there are a lot of unanswered questions about their set-up. What happens when he has to step down or retire? What if she gets pregnant? They did make it clear why none of them defected...but that could have been teased out a bit more and it could have been interesting to have at least one of them be tempted.
It's not a stretch to believe that two people who dated for 5 years would still be in love after 10....but to believe that the 2nd ML was still in love with her after never having anything reciprocated is unbelievable and felt forced for the sake of creating a fake love triangle. They could have devoted less time to his character and focused more on the FL's grandma.
There was a reason for the show to be less aesthetic and sexy than others on my favorites list, so it isn't a fault so much as an acknowledgment that you're not always going to be in the mood to watch it and it can trigger tough emotions. Especially now with the death of LSK...it feels sadly ironic because this drama reminded me that having even one tie to another person who cares about you can help you hold on and provide that little bit of moonlight you need to see a way forward during your darkest hour.
I would cut the storekeeper storyline - it didn't really add anything - to make more time for her best friend and their friendship. I mean, she moved there with her. The bucket list was cute but the school uniform picture was cringey. And you know good and well that shoe could not have been saved.
Why does the kidnapper call the FL eonni instead of noona? I've only seen that once before in Healer, his female sidekick calls him Hyung but she's kinda of a tomboy and he's like her boss. Plus, isn't he older than her if he's the ML's age? I'm just asking because I'm curious about Korean language and norms.
