Knowing the ending, I want to watch it. But, I fall asleep whenever I attempt to watch even a single episode. And I think that they did shoot a lot, but had to cut everything due to the episode limit or run time or something.
It was unique, especially the characters. Not the typical Cdrama ones. But, by about 30 episodes, it seemed to me like the heroes of the story became the villains. (The ones from Tang.) That ruined the whole thing for me. Tianshu seemed to be the only fellow with brains in that gang, aside from Mu Le. There were times I felt that they themselves knew that they were in the wrong, but still continued arguing. Other than that the acting was awesome and even the plot, if it was cleaned up a bit.
Ep 20 and I already hate everyone, for either being too stupid, too clever or too power hungry. Except for the maid siblings. I voluntarily signed up for this and deserve it. But, come on, guys. Its not as bad as the comments convey. Better to leap into a drama with absolutetly no expectations.
"My only complaint is the hairstyles." Hahaha! The hair styles in this drama are considered pretty good. Wait…
Mostly in Wuxia dramas, hairstyle brings a lot of difference to the character's looks. My problem was that I sometimes felt like Lu Yi, and later other characters had their entire hair pulled way back without even a fringe/ bangs/ loose hairs. I've learnt recently that its cause the wig is too tight. (Seriously, I will not forget what they did to Cao Yuchen of Untamed...dude was the only one without bangs in the early years. Then everyone lost theirs except Wei Ying.) Like, Xiao Ce looked a lot better and youthful in his first appearance with loose hair. Then, he got it all pinned back. Other than that, I had no other problems with anything else. :D
This drama was a breath of fresh air after watching GBMP. (Currently watching Princess Agents cause somehow I became masochistic during quarantine, I even dropped Skate Into Love.) I just loved this drama. I wrote a whole review, but my page refreshed and my time got lost, so here I am. It felt like I had actually finished a long journey with the characters. I hate political dramas and this one had it too. But, if you skip most of it, except specific parts, the whole drama gets interesting. (And it also answered my question of why cdrama actors are able to fly about.) Overall a really good drama. My only complaint is the hairstyles.
That massacre episode has haunted me since airing until today. I'm still traumatized. What an incredible story…
That episode is actually my favourite one, mostly due to the OST and acting. Damn. I've watched many hyped up dramas. But, this scene certainly is no. 1 for me out of all of them.
I usually stay away from political dramas, but for some reason decided to watch this out of curiosity. Oh boy.... Never have I wanted all my favorite characters to die quickly after watching the first 13 episodes. (Watching XF being dolled up without knowing anything was painful to watch.) I can't even blame LCY for what he did -- he grew up among those murderers. I even feel bad for him at some points. But, he was not ready to give up his position for XF. He should've stayed away from the Danchi camp till the battle and asked someone else to protect the princess instead of jumping in without telling anyone else. That would have saved him from the curse of the people he betrayed. Also, unlike popular opinion, Gu Jian was actually one of my favorite characters. He realized that he was a pile of goo and atleast attempted to stop the disaster. (Too bad he was a puppet for Chai Mu.) Atleast Ah' Du and Xiaofeng got away together. They had too much survivor's guilt and were too good for that place. Hell, the Danchi people were crude and cruel, but even they seemed more human than those Eastern Palace people.
Finished Ep 32.. So that was the twist, he didn't got betrayed. He was schemed against. In my opinion Wu Xan is…
Wei Wuxian was written as a *punch first and then look whom you punched* kind of fellow. I don't know if anyone else felt this, but he is like a Chinese Xianxia version of the character Rose Hathaway. If he was a thoughtful character who was careful with his words, then we wouldn't have MDZS. (The novel was more satisfying to me when it comes to WWX. ) He downright calls out The Jins' arrogance without a second thought. At that point, I think running away with the Wens was his only choice. He had turned Wen Ning into a puppet after losing control. And Wen Ning in turn killed a lot of people. Had he stayed there, the remaining Wens would have been dead too. Plus, if he had brought them back to his home, Jin Guangshan would've done something evil to the Jiang Clan. In terms of making wise decisions WWX is not the best person. But, it was not him who got the innocent Wens killed. In the book Wen Qing and WN went alone and then the Wens got killed in the first siege of Burial Mounds when WWX went mad due to demonic cultivation. In the drama, they shortened it. He doesn't think and acts out unlike others. And his recklessness cost a lot of lives inadvertently. I think that you are still watching the drama, so there is another point that I can't say yet. But, the author made a good decision to portray him this way..
Major second lead syndrome for me in this drama. And not in a 'end up with Jin Mi' kind of way. And yes, he is not a likable person by the end of the drama. Yeah, but I still have 2nd lead syndrome... I was rooting for him to come out of his delusion till the end. He'd been through a lot.
He is awesome, first time I read the novel I just thught it was just an extra and a Wei Ying fan and then best…
Sadly, I have a feeling that Mo Xuanyu won't make an appearance, considering how much the movie focusses after NMJ death. Though, I'd really like to know what JGY did to him so that he turned mad at 13yrs old and went to the point of teaming up with Huiasang.
Is this show good for people like me who loves romcom shows?i like shows (costume dramas) ashes of love, eternal…
The story is based on a BL novel. Due to censorship, all the content was removed. But, the author had intended the book to be a BL one, so despite most of the straightforward scenes being removed, a few scenes did end up which sort of gives it away. (Atleast for one character, and I watched the drama without keeping anything in mind.) You survived Ashes of Love, so maybe you'll like this too.
What a beautiful write-up encapsulating everything in the drama. Yes, this is a wonderful drama that has captured…
;) I already began reading the novel.... and I am trying not to get addicted to anything related to the drama. But, the story is so complex that I feel to dive in and look for more! :D
Hats off to Mo Xiang Tong Xiu for writing this novel. I admit, I am not familiar with Chinese Genres and literary works, but so far, this one could beat some of the most popular high fantasy novels of the West. I began watching this drama as a purposeful distraction, but only managed to get into the 1st episode after several attempts. Atleast, this drama gave me a warning on what to expect in the 1st ep itself, unlike Ashes of Love, which took me on a happy trip then suddenly decided to throw me out of the bus by the last ten episodes. Then the flashback began and Oh dear... this drama emotionally scarred me for life. I feel completely useless after watching it, mostly, cause it reflects a lot of reality. Wei Ying going from a jolly person to someone who saw the harsh world was really touching, cause I have seen someone become like that in real life too. And the relationship between the siblings... Ep 32 and Ep 46 ruined my life. Damn. That closure with Jiang Cheng was beyond unsatisfactory and sad. (I suspected it since that episode.) But, hey, they are immortals and have lots of time to catch up. Everything in this drama was painful. All the main characters go through a lot. The elder sister's death, WY being punished by the whip, JC's core taken away while he tried to save WY, WY's happy visit to see JiangYanli's child being destroyed, the arguments between LWJ and WY, the Wen sect elders surrendering, the battlefield.... I could go on. The actors and script writers, directors and whoever worked on this drama all did a terrific job. (CDramas usually never disappoint.) Even the villains (except for the Wen sect guys, they were already evil to begin with) were cleverly written. Raise your hands if you knew that Meng Yao would go bad right from the start. :D Not to mention the Friendship/Romance/Bromance or whatever it was between the main leads. Either way, I am jealous cause it would be almost impossible in this lifetime for me to get someone like that. Every single character and the main themes of the story made me wonder once again about everything in life. Even after we know what is going to happen since the 1st episode, watching it is a really painful experience. And the soundtrack, especially tha flute tune of the song that LWJ wrote for WY... so beautiful. And that ending scenes where we see WY smile once again like the old times. This drama has landed right next to Lord of the Rings, my favorite series. And the second drama that did not disappoint me after Hotel del Luna. Unforgettable.
I fully agree. It was not sad ending nor happy ending, I would say it was nice ending where everything was wrapped…
ALM was okay. Personally, to me, the ending and the last few episodes felt way too rushed. Especially the last episode. The story has a good/happy ending, but how it reaches that point felt a bit off. Maybe cause I had higher expectations. Otherwise it was good. Also, I was one of the few people who didn't feel that L's acting was bad. So, that counts too.

They don't get a happy ending in this life, but it is 100% sure that they do meet in some other lifetime from the scene shown in the future. Them being togther would have ultimately ended in Tragedy too. (CS would grow and die and MW would be stuck in the hotel for a few more years) I watched a few Chinese dramas this year after Angel's Last Mission blew up my faith in Kdramas, so right now, I too, am hanging around searching for a new drama. :)
So far, the best drama I watched while still airing. Glad it didn't disappoint. It had the only sensible ending I could think of. Anything else would have been a cope out. On a side note, I wonder what the new manager did to end up with his soul tied to a tree.
Is jang man wol a human or a spirit? This question keeps bugging me ????
I wondered the same thing, but then in one of the last few episodes, Ma Go mentioned that the manager of Hotel Del Luna, who drinks the wine, loses his/her human form and instead has their soul chained to the tree. (Indirectly the tree is them.) Which was exactly Man Weol's punishment for her crimes.
Like, Xiao Ce looked a lot better and youthful in his first appearance with loose hair. Then, he got it all pinned back.
